Hi, I haven't seen any docs on how to get trinux onto a harddrive or a compact flash disk. But seeing as there's an ISO-build with IDE support, it should work. So using a SanDisk_CF-64Meg drive I ran syslinux to install a boot loader and then copied the bzImage, initrd.gz and syslinux.cfg files from the CD-ROM's isolinux directory to the SanDisk drive. Then I copied the entire trinux directory, also found on the CD-ROM to the SanDisk drive. The hunch turned out to be correct and the steps above took only minutes. Now, the hard part.... This works most of the way and even drops me into a usable shell prompt, but it seems that there is something critical missing from the linuxrc script with regards to booting from a harddrive. The linuxrc script initializes the system and is found in the initrd.gz file. It has the routines and variables for cd-rom floppy and even UML but not for fixed harddrives. Please, anyone who has fooled around with installing this on CF or even a regular hard drive please post a couple hints to run trinux off of a hard drive or compact-flash. I don't know whether it's worth the time to respond to what is apparently a flame, but I've found invaluable use out of Trinux thus far. The last release was in Sept 2002, which isn't exactly dead, nor two years. This may not be the most quickly updated project, but from what I've seen, those who use it love it. Aside from that, it's trivial to create your own packages/etc and the idea is to customize it for your usage, not rely on someone else's "releases". hi what about SSH2 and trinux, why is there only a package for SSH1 ? has anybody a trinux box with SSH2 running ? would be nice if someone has made a package for SSH2. my second question is: what about the IRC channel? i've tried the irc.freenode channel and saw the message that it has moved to irc.undernet... but i can only connect to undernet-europe and there is no #trinux channel... thanks guenther -------------- /"\ mailto: Gu...@gm... \ / X ASCII RIBBON CAMPAIGN - AGAINST HTML MAIL / \ |

I've been able to successfully use 1.44MB diskettes to start Trinux. Now, I want to expand & start doing either of the following: 1. combination of boot floppy + CDR with Trinux packages; 2. bootable CDR contain boot image & Trinux packages. I prefer #2 but I can live with #1 also. Having trouble finding freeware for the Windoze platform that does similar to the RAWRITE for the floppy. Also I don't know what I have to modify on the boot floppy if I use #1. Can someone give a hand to this newbie? TIA, Robert --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Hey All, I've compiled a package of Dan Kaminsky's Paketto Keiretsu (well, most of it) for Trinux. I was wondering if a) anyone wants to look at it, b) where to submit it to for download/etc.... I've done minimal testing, but it seems to work pretty well... Take a look at www.doxpara.com <http://www.doxpara.com> for more info on the programs themselves.... Thanks Mike Metzger |

Hi, =20 We want to know the latest Trinux (CD Dist) is having support for ext3 file systems. Because we want to make a rescue disk for the RedHat Linux 7.3 which is having ext3 fs and to enable file integrity checkup and other security issues. =20 Thanks and Regards, Karthikeyan V Arulselvan |
