Hi,

I use emacs 22.1 stable.
There seems to be a documentation bug
in table.el and the emacs manual.

There is no table-cell-horizontal-char
variable holding a character,
in contrast to what is said in
the manual and comments of the table.el file.
There is instead a table-cell-horizontal-chars
variable that holds a string.

Oops, I forgot to include a change that was posted to

...this problem wasn't fixed by the updated one :(

Hello,

I've been asked to add table.el into one of the XEmacs packages, and
having played around with it a bit in XEmacs, I see (as the notes say)
there are some problems.

I've worked around a couple, see the attached patch.

At least one showstopper remains, let me try to describe it.

When I have inserted a table into a buffer, I poke around and type some
characters *into* the top border (the line with the +-----+------
stuff), then move into a cell, and type some more.  Now, when the table
tries to resize itself, I get (after setting debug-on-error to t):

Signaling: (wrong-type-argument number-char-or-marker-p nil)
  table--put-property(nil table-justify nil)
  table--put-cell-justify-property(nil nil)
  table--put-cell-property(nil)
  table--update-cell(now)

I'd appreciate it if this could be fixed so I could continue the process
of distributing table.el with XEmacs.  I have no idea whether it works
this way in GNU Emacs too,  I'm using XEmacs 21.4.8.

I was told that table.el is able to produce LaTeX output.  If so, this
is great.  In that case, there's a bug on your web-page
(table.sf.net): it doesn't mention this fact!

I installed table-1.5.24.el and added (require 'table) to my .emacs file.  When I start up xemacs
(21.1.14), I get the following warnings:

  !! Symbol's function definition is void ((table--point-in-cell-p))
  ** variable deactivate-mark bound but not referenced
  !! Symbol's function definition is void ((table--point-in-cell-p))

But the package does seem to function properly!

Not sure -- in my environment, it byte-compiles without errors.
