Hello Guillame Thanks for the quick response and the pointer to only look into tags/1.1 folder. Ihave already downloaded latest Squeak and saw another directory for Squaek drivers. It's been a very long time, I don't really remember the details, but I had a look at the svn tree, and the important thing is that you have to go under the tags/1.1 directory to find the actual source code. What is under trunk is the beginning of a rewrite of the app in C++/Qt, but it is light-years away from being complete. So in the tags/1.1 folder is the code for the working version, which is written in Squeak (a Smalltalk environment). I guess the first thing you would have to do is familiarize yourself with Squeak. Thanks Guillame I am sending this via Gmail - as I could not figure out how to reply to your note in place. Also I could not make much sense out of the directory/file structure showing up on the link you provided. Appreciate if you can send a few lines for setting up the development environment [what is it? C/C++/Java or some thing else) and loading the project root file for rebuilding the code locally. Regards Sri. |

Okay... unfortunately the issue is not that simple. It seems that sound in squeak is broken in Ubuntu since 8.04 (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/squeak-vm/+bug/235146). What you can do until they fix the problem is to download the OSS sound driver I just compiled (https://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?group_id=200771&filename=vm-sound-OSS&a=17580514). You must copy it to /usr/lib/squeak/3.9-8/ Note that you need root privileges to do that, from a terminal you can do: sudo cp vm-sound-OSS /usr/lib/squeak/3.9-8/ (assuming you are in the directory where you downloaded the file). Then, you have to tell squeak to use this driver, so you must launch squeak from the command line, or create a special launcher. The idea is: squeakvm -vm-sound-OSS [path to your taalpulse image] Maybe you also have to install the alsa-oss package from Ubuntu. Tell me if it works for you. Hi, what do you mean by "except the volume"? Do you mean you can't control the master volume from TaalPulse, or the individual instrument volumes, or you get no sound at all? Hi Rischi Raj, that would be really great if you contribute to Taalpulse! There are two directions that can be taken: - Improve and extend the current version, which is based on Squeak - Finish the "new" version, which I started some time ago but later abandonned, which is written in C++/Qt (see http://taalpulse.net/news.html for a bit more info) Actually, I think the first solution (Squeak) might be the best, because having a Qt app compile (and run properly) on the various platforms I'm interested in is a nightmare. Unless, of course, you are experienced and/or interested in doing multiplatform C++/Qt development. In any case you can have a look at the source code of both versions on the sourceforge page: Squeak version (v1.1 tag): http://taalpulse.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/taalpulse/tags/v1.1/ C++/Qt version (trunk): http://taalpulse.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/taalpulse/trunk/ Please do not hesitate to ask for any information you need! I'm very excited that you are willing to help with development. Cheers, g 2009/3/20 Rischi Raj Tripathii <ris...@gm...>: > HI Guillaume, > > Your project is very exciting for me . HI Guillaume, Your project is very exciting for me . I am a software developer and done Master's in Computer application and also very interested in Hindustani classical music. I just to know about your app and I am frequently using while practising my violin learning. To restart the project again if something I can do , I will always be available. Please inform me , how can we move further.... Thanks & Regards, Rishi Raj |

Hi Chandra, thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, development of Taalpulse is halted at the moment so I will not add any new feature in the near future. As far as Taalpulse on a palm, I don't know, I've seen a few threads that mention Squeak on PalmOS (Squeak is the platform on which Taalpulse is built), but it would seem it doesn't work. What particular device do you have? Hi Guillaume, Great work! I've been wondering if a software like this would ever exist. Since I am a sitar student and I've been practicing a lot with the tabla machine. If it's possible to show "SUM" (a blink, or counting to indicate the first beat of each taal circle) ? BTW, if anybody have the experience of installing Taalpulse on a Palm ? All the best Chandra |
