As you get in the SQL Server Management Studio query window?

Sorry, Squirrel has a different UI design philosophy, one result set per 
tab.

There's a feature request for something like named tabs - go vote for it. 
:)

The tabs are created in the order they are executed and it's pretty clear 
up until the second row of tabs gets created. Each tab does shoe the query 
it executed. I don't have access to Squirrel right at the moment so I 
don't recall exactly how it's labeled on the tab, but each tab has the 
result grid, a metadata grid with details about the result set columns, 
and the query executed and time it took.

I think about the only answer that can be given is "that would be a major 
design change."

You could select an explicit static identifying string as the first column 
of each of the various queries, that would make it easier for the user to 
identify the data in the result set.

Greetings.  First time poster.

I hope this is an "that's easy dude ... "

I want to run a series of consecutive SQL Select statements and dump all the results into one window rather than have each SQL statement result in a separate tab.   Moreover, the tabs are not named so I don't know what tab relates to what SQL statement when I have many SQL statements.

Think of a use case where a customer has data relationally organized in tables with a common key such a customer number.   Running multiple simple SQL statements against each table (to gather a quick glance of the scope of the customer data) is preferable to joining all the tables in one statement.  As needs dictate, add/remove some of the individual SQL statements.

Yes, I did try to find the answer first but failed.

Hi Thomas,
Database JDBC drivers are not provided with SquirreL, as they are usually
not free software.
You have to get the DB2 LUW driver from IBM's website, and install it in
SquirreL.
The SQuirreL help file (About/Help) will tell you how to access the driver
from SQuirreL.

Hi,
I have just downloaded and installed the product.  I am trying to connect to a db2 (luw) database but I do not see it in the Drivers list after I  installed.  I did check  off db2 (also Oracle,MS Sql server and Sybase) when I installed the product but I do not see any with a check mark when I run the product.

Wondering if someone can help me to connect to db2 luw?

I'm not able to generate DDL for Greenplum database,  the right click menu is not opening at all.

I use progress data direct JDBC driver.  And I have "SQL Scripts" plugin enabled and loaded.

Can someone help to fix this issue.

[Squirrel-sql-users] Create schema error while using squirrel sql client with phoenix driver

I understand this is very basic functionality. I am using squirrel sql client
and phoenix driver to connect with my phoenix server and create table. When
I issue select queries, my queries run successfully. But when I create a
schema, my query is showing syntax error while typing itself. I am getting
the same while executing as well. Attached the image with the error. Kindly
help

I confirmed that the DB does exist and supports transactions. Additionally
using a different tool (DBvizualizer) and the ssh tunnel settings within
DbViz allow me to connect to this DB and execute queries. However that is
not a free tool and my thought is that with the tunnel set up it should be
no different with squirrel and I should be able to connect to the DB via
squirrel as well ? hence trying to troubleshoot further.

Does the AUTH database exist? Does it support transactions?

WAG by a non-DB2 user: I expect the JDBC driver may be doing OOB 
authentication via a different port. You might need to sniff network 
traffic (or read docs) to see if you need to redirect another port to the 
DB server as well.

Could be a firewall issue where port for ssh is open (22) and DB is not (50000)

[Squirrel-sql-users] displaying utf8 chars in the results tab

Been struggling to display utf8 chars in the results tab. I can copy
the seemingly empty cells & paste elsewhere to see the actual chars.
Chars appear fine in the "results as text" tab. Is this by design or
is there a trick to unmask the chars in this view?

In the SQL window, top right hand corner, there is a box that has the number of rows to retrieve. It should say 100. Change it to whatever you want.

[Squirrel-sql-users] How to actually remove the 100 rows limit?

I have a query where I need to see more than the first 100 rows returned from the query.  I've googled for this, and I've cleared the checkbox in "New Session Properties", and it's cleared in my current session properties, but when I run a query, it still says "Limited to 100 rows".  What am I missing?

Been struggling to display utf8 chars in the results tab. I can copy
the seemingly empty cells & paste elsewhere to see the actual chars.
Chars appear fine in the "results as text" tab. Is this by design or
is there a trick to unmask the chars in this view?

[Squirrel-sql-users] SQuirreL SQL for Greenplum database taking very long time to load objects

Dear All,

I’m trying to use Squirrel SQL for Greenplum database, I have the Greenplum plugin installed and I’m using PostgreSQL JDBC version 9.4.1206. 

When I try to connect to the database the connection is established successfully, but the SQL prompt doesn’t show up for very long time. I assume this is because SQuirreL SQL loads all the objects in all schemas. 

I tried to avoid this in the schema properties and choose not to load any objects from all schemas, but again when I need to check the objects and click on the objects tab it starts to load the objects and takes very long time.

My questions, can you please help here:

1. Will this be a one time work which Squirrel SQL does? Or will it be repeated every time I connect to the database?
2. Is there a way to make this faster, because it is taking very long time.

Hi John, 

Thanks for the replies.  I did try changing the HOSTNAME to the IP address but that did not help.  

Actually I just got it to work.  I kept googling and found this solution:

In the ALIAS I modified the URL value where after the DB name I added:

?sslmode=require

That allowed me to access the DB on the remote vendor server without issue since I cannot make any modifications to that server.  This did the trick.

Hopefully if someone else runs into this same issue this may help.

...does it work if you use the IP address (vs. the hostname) in the JDBC 
connect string?
