The "easiest" way is to export your tables from access with a delimiter (i.e. ";") and reimport this data to postgres using the "copy from" command. Look at the SQL-Reference which is part of the Reference Manual. > I assume I would need to do it using ODBC, but I have no clue what to > install (as a driver) and where to install it (on the linux box or on > the wondoze box). There exists a ODBC-Driver you can use for accessing PG-Databases via i.e. access. But IMHO the way described above is the faster way, if you don't want to access the PG-Database permanently via M$-access. In any cases you have to rebuild constraints and relations between tables by hand, it is not possible to export/import them. HTH, Martin BTW: Could you please post plain-text instead of HTML next time? Thx |

Hello all, Realising that thismay not be the perfect place to ask my question I = want to give it a try anyway. I currently have information stored in a Access97 database. Part of this information I would need to transfer to Postgresql (on a = linux box (Mandrake 8.0) to use it in the SQL-ledger. Question is: how to do this? I assume I would need to do it using ODBC, but I have no clue what to = install (as a driver) and where to install it (on the linux box or on the wondoze box). Does anyone has a good answer on this? Thanks in advance! Thanks to all the people replying to my 'crying out for help!' For the person that may benifit from it: To start Postgresql with the -i flag (to enable TCP/IP connections) on Mandrake 8=2E0 do the following: cd /etc/init=2Ed emacs postgresql Look for the line containing: echo -n "Starting postgresql service: " (probably line 82) The next line is then: su -l postgres -c "/usr/bin/pg_ctl -D $PGDATA -p /usr/bin/postmaster start >/dev/null 2>&1" Change it to: su -l postgres -c "/usr/bin/pg_ctl -D $PGDATA -p /usr/bin/postmaster -o -i start >/dev/null 2>&1" Notice the "-o -i" between postmaster and start=2E I assume the -o means 'options you want to give to the postmaster when starting it'=2E -i enables the TCP/IP connections=2E Enjoy, Oscar ----- Message d'origine ----- De : "Tomas Kuliavas" <tokul@bigfoot=2Ecom> ? : <sql-ledger-users@lists=2Esourceforge=2Enet> Envoy=E9 : mardi 19 juin 2001 20:22 Objet : Re: Version 1=2E4=2E4 installation problems (nearly there now ! ) > > Oscar Buijten wrote: > > > > Hello again dear helpers, > > > > I have been trying several things=2E Changed this line; > > postgres -c "/usr/bin/pg_ctl -D $PGDATA -p /usr/bin/postmaster > > start >/dev/null 2>&1 > > in several ways=2E Can't get it to work with this=2E > > > > Have tried to add : su postgres -c 'postmaster -i' to /etc/profile > > as well but no succes either=2E > > > > When I use; su postgres -c 'postmaster -i' from the command line > > postmaster switches on and I can use the SQL-ledger application=2E > > > > You don't need to modify init=2Ed script if you want to make postgresql > listen to tcp > > all you need is valid configuration file=2E > > "tcpip_socket =3D true" and "port =3D 5432" options=2E > > and postgres listens to tcp port=2E I did it with postgres build from > sources and with postgres on Debian=2E :) > -- > Tomas Kuliavas > |

Hi, Attached is yet another danish locale improvement. Also, now that I've figured out just how to deal with tax being automatically added, I have a suggestion for the original wording of a phrase: Now: Include this account on the customer/vendor forms to flag customer/vendor as taxable? Suggested ned wording: Make this account selectable as tax account when creating customers and vendors? The suggested wording makes it more obvious IMHO where and when exactly to enable tax. I built a Chart of Accounts from scratch last night, and spent hours trying all sorts of combinations of adding CT_all and creating AR/AP transactions without realizing that "customer/vendor forms" includes "Add Customer" but _not_ "Add Customer Invoice"... Hi Oscar. I'm on Debian, so I do it through the postmaster.init file. I think you need to get what's below into your startup script or check the configuration file for the distribution that you're on. Your docs also might have more info. Sorry I can't be of more assistance. Steve > Try a: > postgres -c "/usr/bin/pg_ctl -0 '-i' -D $PGDATA -p > /usr/bin/postmaster > start >/dev/null 2>&1 > > |

Ok German, I make the corrections and check the apache subdirectories and is fine... but still displaying the Server error... do you have any other idea about this... Thanks... -----Original Message----- From: sql...@li... [mailto:sql...@li...]On Behalf Of German Duenas Sent: Viernes, 15 de Junio de 2001 11:35 p.m. To: sql...@li... Subject: Re: Internal Server Configuration You have added the settings to the wrong file. These seetings are to be added to the /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf. Once you add these lines you can check against your configuration files. In Mandrake if you run Drakconf and go to networks then servers and then Apache server under subdirectories you will find these settingts already listed. If they are not listed go back and enter them. Hi Oscar. Do you have postgres starting with the -i flag (tcp/ip connection)? try from the command line: psql -d yourdbname -h 127.0.0.1 If you can't make a tcp/ip connection through the localhost, you need= to start the postmaster with the -i flag. I'm no authority on the code, although I have poked around a bit. ;-) Firstly, I've honestly never seen this bug before. Secondly, I suggest turning on the debugging of your SQL server (e.g. Postgresql) and watch the SQL statements that are logged when you click 'Process Receipts'... this will definitely show you where the problem is. Hi. I try to explain my problem: In our company we receive a lot of payments. A lot of them is not exactly linked to an invoice. The situation of a customer is then like a single ledger account: a lot of invoices and a lot of payments without any link between the invoices and the payments. To use the AR module, I need to work a lot to understand the links between payments and invoices. Is it somehow possible to tell the module that I received a payment without link it to an invoice? Second problem: we have a lot of customer and the pull down list is huge to handle. We prefer something like a 'grep' between the customers to reach a single customer. (i.e. I write in a search box just 'Imag' and I can add a transaction with a pull down menu containing just three customers: 'Image Communications', 'New Image' and 'Imaging') Someone has seen the same problems? Is someone working on them? Thanks. Luca |

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh! I was under the belief that these were paths to the files and SQL-Ledger was coded to look for the "members" file. I knew that it did not seem correct the errors that I was getting. Because no access restrictions where set. That is why I wanted to know where exactly in the Perl code did SQL-Ledger call the members file, so I could see what exactly it was looking for. So if the file called "membersship.dat" then the $membersfile variable would be set like this? $memberfile = "users/members/membersship.dat"; or $memberfile = "users/membersship.dat"; Depending where you want to store the file! Put this in the FAQ and Installation instructions so it is clear that the file itself has to be included in the path for the $memberfile. I've tried it so it works Peeeerrrrrfectly. Thank you everyone. The date bug was introduced when we added the trial balance. The balances didn't zero out when the original AP/AR amounts were reduced by the amount of the payment so I basically recorded the payment date as the invoice date. It's all fixed now in version 1.4.6 Instead of reducing the original AR/AP amount an offsetting transaction is added to keep the balance zero. When you edit the original transaction and enter a payment the payment date is assumed to be the invoice date. The only deviation you could possibly have is when you accept a postdated check for payment. Dieter Simader http://www.sql-ledger.org (780) 472-8161 DWS Systems Inc. You answered your own question. change memberfile to $memberfile = "users/members/members"; ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ path filename Dieter Simader http://www.sql-ledger.org (780) 472-8161 DWS Systems Inc.
