hmmm... How do we set up multiple companies? Maybe I'm blind, but I don't see a link for that. If the companies are stored in the same database, then I think we can write some scripts for consolidated reports. Right? Hello all,
I'm having some problems printing. When the files are sent to the printer,
there's a good 6-7 inches of white space at the top of the page before any
content appears. This seems to be happening with all the templates. I'm
printing to an HP LaserJet 4050N.
Thanks,
Jeff

You can also modify the postgresql.conf file: tcpip_socket = true You have also to grant access to the clients, modifying the file pg_hba.conf, that is in $PGDATA directory (/usr/local/pgsql/data in my case). It is self explanatory, for example I introduced this line in it host all 192.168.0.0 255.255.0.0 trust supposing that clients connections arrive from 192.168.0.0 network. HIH. Klav,
See the snippet below from the Postgres manual. Perhaps sql-ledger is
trying to connect via TCP, but Postgres is only accepting connections via
UDP (the Postgres default, at least at one time).
-Olaf
=======================
3.3.2. Client Connection Problems
Although the error conditions possible on the client side are quite varied
and application-dependent, a few of them might be directly related to how
the server was started up. Conditions other than those shown below should be
documented with the respective client application.
psql: could not connect to server: Connection refused
Is the server running on host server.joe.com and accepting
TCP/IP connections on port 5432?
This is the generic "I couldn't find a server to talk to" failure. It looks
like the above when TCP/IP communication is attempted. A common mistake is
to forget the -i option to allow the postmaster to accept TCP/IP
connections.
Alternatively, you'll get this when attempting Unix-socket communication to
a local postmaster:
psql: could not connect to server: Connection refused
Is the server running locally and accepting
connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?

Hi guys,
I just installed rpm's of postgresql, and installed sql-ledger.
When I try to connect and "Create Dataset" from admin.pl, it keeps
giving me "Error. Could not connect to server: connection refused".
I tried adding a new postgres user (tnx. for the link to postgresql
guide I got earlier on the list). I still get the same error even though
I added the user, with the -P (to set password).
postgresql listens on udp 1045 according to lsof -i udp.
what am I missing?

A private installation can be setup without root access. No changes to any other configuration files are needed. Of course you must have perl, DBI and DBD-(Pg|Oracle) installed and either Postgres or Oracle running or at least have access to a SQL server. 1. Unpack SQL-Ledger in your home directory 2. setup one user in postgres If your name has already been added or if you use the postgres superuser you can forget this step 3. load the webserver (cd dnhttpd/exec; ./dnhttpd.pl) 4. load your browser 5. connect to http://localhost:8000/admin.pl 6. setup a company (Database Administration -> Create Dataset) 7. setup a user (Add User) log in or connect to http://localhost:8000/login.pl and log in. Does SQL-Ledger offer the functionality to capture inventory going out. For example, the system will actually decrease the inventory when invoice is posted. Since items are still in inventory warehouse, there is a pick process, then there is a control quality process. Do you guys have suggestions on controling Inventory going out of warehouse? Thanks... I would VERY much like to see this option indeed! Being a 'simple bookkeeper' I did not yet get SQL-ledger up on either Suse, Red Hat, Mandrake or ELX. This is very likely mostly due to my lack of Linux skills, the quality of the mails in this list and the documentation lead me to believe this is an excellent accounting package. Unfortunately I do not have the time to become a Linux specialist any time soon, so RPM or DEB based install (now THAT I can do ;-) would be perfect. I would be willing to change over to whatever Linux distro needed gladly! Because I NEED a semi or pro accounting package, at the moment I am stuck to M$. If Debian or any other distro could come with RPM-based (or even as included part, wow!) my guess is that 'the penguin' will have a whole bunch of new followers real soon, accounting being the only thing missing for SOHO needs up till now. An easy foolproof (that's me again ;-) Linux install with spreadsheet, mail, word editor, browser and accounting package is more than ample for 99% of small to medium size companies. I am (slowly) packaging SQL-Ledger for Debian. It will be an official part of Debian GNU/Linux, and thus not be put in /usr/local as Dieter (correctly) suggests on the packaging page. - Jonas -- Jonas Smedegaard (+45 40843136) http://dr.jones.dk/~jonas/ Spiff ApS (= IT-guide dr. Hi,all:
I like sql-ledger very much and hope it better and better. Now I have two
bugs to report.I use version 1.8.2.
1)When I create sale invoice from sale order(brower sale order and then
click "create invoice" button),the sale invoice form has not use current
locale variants, for example,if I use Italian, some fields of the form display
Italian,and some others display english,I think it's a bug.
2)I enter "edit part" form in the way that I click part number of part
in the "edit assembly" form, when i save changes modified in the form ,it
prompt incorrect password, although it real does commit change to the
database.
thanks,
Karl.

Hi Dieter, I believe the following is a bug in the data storage logic: 1) Create 2 different taxes: "sales tax" and "expense tax" (in Denmark they are taxed equally but must be tracked and reported separately). 2) Create a new customer (which by default enables both which is wrong, but leave it as is for now). 3) Create an invoice using the badly configured customer (will be double taxed) and save it. 4) Edit the customer and correct the error: turn off "expense tax" (which will never ever be useful here - only for vendors). 5) Find the invoice: the tax calculation has changed! This is BAD! When I make an invoice I expect that invoice to not change unless I hit the "update Form" button. Editing customer/vendor/part/service should apply only to _new_ invoices, not existing ones. Currently, published invoices _link_ to entries in the "address book" of customers/vendors. Correct behavior IMHO would be to _copy_ the info instead (and possibly re-copy when doing an "Update Form"). I am using SQL-Ledger version 1.8.3. - Jonas -- Feel free to quote me wherever. I usually post on d-private because that's where most developers are. Sadly there's no similar _public_ spot! Jonas Smedegaard (+45 40843136) http://dr.jones.dk/~jonas/ Spiff ApS (= IT-guide dr. Did you use the same part on the customer and vendor invoice or perhaps do you have two of what seems to be the same item in inventory? Run an inventory report for the item and check "bought" and "sold". It will tell you how many items where bought and sold. Dieter Simader http://www.sql-ledger.org (780) 472-8161 DWS Systems Inc. Hi, I'm using SQL-Ledger 1.8.2, and have a problem with inventory. When I add a Vendor invoice containing received goods, quantity is not incremented appropriately in inventory. When I invoice the customer for a given part, quantity IS decremented appropriately. As a result, I now have a number of parts in inventory with a negative value. Would this likely be something *I've* overlooked, or is it a known problem? Further, exactly how much a bad thing(tm) would it be for me to manually adjust the quantity in the tables directly (if I've created the correct invoices)? I'm using the following: SQL-Ledger 1.8.2 Apache 1.3.23 Postgres 7.2 Thanks, Brad. |

I recently upgraded to the latest sql-ledger and now have an issue with emailing invoices or sales orders... If I select HTML and EMAIL I get an attached file of 7 bytes that only contains <HEAD> and terminates.... My templates display correctly when directed to screen. Is there something I need to change on my templates to have them work correctly with this new update? Thanks, Dave |

hello, has anybody thought of creating deb/rpm packages of sql-ledger? if all of the rather complicated setup (for unexperienced/first time users) would be done automatically, most topcis about obscure error messages after first install would never appear on this list and everyone could be consentrating on sql-ledger bookkeeping related issues or adding new features to sql-ledger. the package scripts could be set to handle adding apache configuration, setting direcotory permissions, complaining about failed dependencies, configure postgres authentication, maybe even add shortcuts to user's kde/gnome desktop.. I'll try to put something together for Redhat 7.2 since that's what I'm currently using. Any ideas what do you think about the idea in general, how thigs should be set up by default, comments from people who have experience in creating rpm or deb packages and like to help (eq supporting other distibutions), etc. are welcome. -- Martin Lillepuu | e-mail: ma...@li... | gsm: +372 515 6450 |
