We're planning to use EHCache and I'm planning to write convenience EhCacheFactoryBean for easy configuration and injection of EHCache Caches using DI in Spring app context. May be it would make sense to create a "cache" package to write integrations/support/convenient configuration...you name it, for different caching systems i.e. OSCache... What does everyone think? Has any work been done or is any work planned to integrate oscach with the spring framework ? It is a great product but suffers from a weak configuration system. --b |

Hi everybody, During an extra evening I had to spend at an airport hotel in Rome, I've = implemented an "import" tag for XML bean definitions: http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/spring/browse/SPR-137 Basically, you can put any number of "import" tags at the beginning of = bean definition files: <beans> <import resource=3D"myImport1.xml"/> <import resource=3D"myImport2.xml"/> <bean ... /> </beans> The resource locations are interpreted as relative to the file that = contains the import tags. Effectively, this is delegated to the = "createRelative" method on the Resource interface, invoked on the = Resource object for the containing file. ("createRelative" has already = been introduced in 1.1 final.) I'll commit this tonight, provided that there aren't any objections. = While I'm not gonna recommend this feature too much, as I personally = prefer a "contextConfigLocation" that refers to multiple files, I still = believe that an import tag is a useful addition. In particular, some = people are used to such a feature from Ant and XWork... Juergen |

Dear list, I've been working with an error on a constructor argument in the bean container. Spring seems to have problems with a primitive boolean <constructor-arg> in a <bean> as in: <constructor-arg><value>true</value></constructor-arg> But this is the way to go right? It says so in the Spring ref. The error I get is this: org.springframework.beans.factory.UnsatisfiedDependencyException: Error creating bean with name 'customDateEditor' defined in resource [/WEB-INF/applicationContext.xml] of ServletContext: Unsatisfied dependency expressed through constructor argument with index 1 of type [boolean]: Did you specify the correct bean references as generic constructor arguments? The other arg is a SimpleDateFormat, here the whole definition. <bean id=3D"customEditorConfigurer" class=3D"org.springframework.beans.factory.config.CustomEditorConfigurer"= > <property name=3D"customEditors"> <map> <entry key=3D"java.util.Date"><ref local=3D"customDateEditor"/></entry> </map> </property> </bean> <bean id=3D"customDateEditor" class=3D"org.springframework.beans.propertyeditors.CustomDateEditor"> <constructor-arg><ref local=3D"dateFormatSql"/></constructor-arg> <constructor-arg><value>true</value></constructor-arg> </bean> <bean id=3D"dateFormatSql" class=3D"java.text.SimpleDateFormat"> =09 <constructor-arg><value>yyyy-MM-dd</value></constructor-arg> </bean> The obvious goal here is simply to get a CustomDateEditor registered. Thank ahead! Paul. |

Hi, There are some factory bean classes in the sandbox for this. We decided = to remove it from the release since we wanted to wait to have subscription support akin to MDBs. You can find the documentation for this on the forums at http://forum.springframework.com/viewtopic.php?t=3D174&sid=3D0d8bcdcf3da0= 45714b1 09de0907cdc82 Cheers, Mark > -----Original Message----- > From: spr...@li...=20 > [mailto:spr...@li...] > On Behalf Of Rong Ou > Sent: Thursday, September 09, 2004 3:23 PM > To: spr...@li... > Subject: Re: [Springframework-developer] JMS message listeners >=20 >=20 > I know, it's just that the listener classes were removed.=20 > Those were used to register beans in an application context=20 > as JMS listeners. There is some nasty robot coming in about once an hour, and registering a new user each time, whose website as listed in the user profile page is actaully various porn sites. This is relying on the fact that even for inactive users (the emails it uses are bogus), the profiles are visible, and will be indexed by search engines. I just wasted a bunch of time killing some of these fake accounts, but as I'm out of the country and on dialup or worse until next week, can't solve this properly until then. We need to put in place a mod which makes people type in a randomly generated code, as well as another which tracks IPs on registrations, so registrations from the same IPs can be found... Just mentioning this as until then, these bogus users are going to probably grow, and anybody browsing the memberlist will see them... |

From: Chris E. <chr...@co...> - 2004-09-11 22:30:53

The following patch addresses several issues in the ProxyFactoryBean
which prevent it from correctly creating beans with prototype advisors:
-Cannot create proxy when using prototype advisor when singleton=false
-Cannot create proxy when using prototype interceptor when singletone=false
-Cannot create proxy when using singleton target and singleton=false
(ie, to use a prototype advisor on a singleton target)
Essentially, at the moment the only part of a prototype ProxyFactoryBean
which may be a prototype is the target bean.
The patch contains 2 new test cases in PorxyFactoryBeanTests which
illustrate 2 examples: a prototype target wrapped by a prototype
advisor, and a singleton target wrapped by a prototype interceptor.
They demonstrate that the LockMixinAdvisor/LockMixin is not currently
usable as a prototype.
Each test, prior to applying the patch, fails with this message:
BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name
'prototypeTestBeanProxySingletonTarget' defined in class path resource
[proxyFactoryTests.xml]: Initialization of bean failed; nested exception
is org.springframework.aop.framework.AopConfigException: TargetSource
specified more than once: Specify in targetSource property or at the END
of the interceptorNames list
...
Note that in neither case is a targetSource specified more than once.
The main defect is that when the factory is initialized, it avoids
loading prototype beans which appear in the interceptorNames property.
Instead it substitutes a null value. When this null value is later
examined, it cannot be determined whether the bean was supposed to be a
target or an advisor.
The solution I used is to use a marker object which holds the place of
prototype advisors in the case that a bean class implements Advisor or
Interceptor. If the bean class does not implement one of these
interfaces, it is assumed to be the target.
Additionally, I changed some of the messages in exceptions and debug
output to be more clear/accurate.
Comments, suggestions, insults welcome.
Chris Eldredge

I have no experience in the tx management (except some classic jdbc/jdo transaction coding, but never jta), so I may need help if this is ever implemented. > A first implementation could be to provide connections using IoC and > and just convert checked exceptions to the Spring DAO exception > hierarchy, and maybe provide Templates to remove the JNDI plumbing code. That's exactly what I'll do. I just wanted to take this saturday to read in depth the Chap9 of 1:1 J2EE Design and Development because beginning some real stuff, knowing that I recently faced some ldap coding at work which were solved with framework like approach. I want to use my little experience in it to build a homemade version for integrating into spring. Olivier |

My 2 cents. I probably wouldn't try to push LDAP into a SQL like API, given that there's a JNDI API built into Java (which is also fundamentally different). Spring should leverage off this. If transactions were implemented, it would be nice to make the tx manager pluggable like Spring JDBC - so maybe it can't be left to a later time. A first implementation could be to provide connections using IoC and and just convert checked exceptions to the Spring DAO exception hierarchy, and maybe provide Templates to remove the JNDI plumbing code. katentim @hotmail.com wrote: > There's also a question of handling errors without transactions in LDAP. > > Would the implementation be to throw something like > DataAccessException and just roll back other transactional resources? I was thinking about this, indeed. Should we try to simulate transactions by, for instance, storing the reverse delta of what we're actually performing so that a rollback could go back ? It still isn't a good solution as it doesn't preserve the isolation property of transactions. It can still help in some situations. Else, we can do the contrary and only stores changes on a commit, while intercepting calls to ldap function to overwrite the result by our temporary transaction data. The naive, non transactional, approach seemed the most natural to me as we don't "pervert" the nature of ldap storage and let the developer chooses his data support knowing its strengths and weaknesses. Still, if there is a need for something more sophisticated, I'll be glad to try my best to incorporate it. Regards Olivier |

There's also a question of handling errors without transactions in LDAP. Would the implementation be to throw something like DataAccessException and just roll back other transactional resources? I know, it's just that the listener classes were removed. Those were used to register beans in an application context as JMS listeners. I was just wondering if/when these are going to be added back in, since they seem quite useful and not that hard to implement. Olivier I think it would be good to have LDAP support. It's a question of bandwidth, and what Spring developers/contributors need to work with and what people have asked for... A contribution would be most welcome. Rgds Rod -----Original Message----- From: spr...@li... [mailto:spr...@li...] On Behalf Of Olivier Jolly Sent: 08 September 2004 21:15 To: spr...@li... Subject: [Springframework-developer] Dao implementation with ldap Hi all, I would like to know whether the dao variants have reached the ldap domain. I mean, there is much work done for jdbc, ibatis, hibernate but I don't recall anything about ldap on the source tree. Is it a philosophical/technique choice or just a lack of will/time to do so ? In the later case, I'd be glad to attempt to provide a high level piece of code leveraving jndi to access ldap in a way similar (in term of ease) as jdbc.
