Eugene, AW provides support for executing any advice that uses the AOP Alliance interfaces. You are correct in saying that we should be able to use AW internally within Spring. All, The nightly snapshot from last night wasn't uploaded to www.springframework.org. There was an error resolving the host name somehow... The new snapshot will be uploaded in about 3 hours... If not, I'll trigger the build manually first thing tomorrow morning. Alef |

My understanding is that they intend to frontends, AJ-style language-based and AW-style annotation-based, to an enhanced common backend. Now, this might be a delicate issue, but I'll put it bluntly nevertheless: Would there be a point in further consolidation with Spring AOP? Spring already supports AspectJ besides its own AOP variant; Spring and AspectWerkz already have aopalliance interfaces in common. Just FYI... commons-lang is no longer a Struts dependency (I believe as of 1.2.4) - so if you upgrade, you could get rid of it altogether! Pierre, I agree with Yannick that it is not desirable to depend on Commons Lang. Spring's core currently has a minimal set of dependencies and just relies on third-party libraries for full-blown optional features (like proxying full target via CGLIB). I prefer to keep it that way, at the expense of having some helper classes in Spring that duplicate Commons Lang functionality. It is true that Commons Lang is already included in the Spring distribution, but the only reason for this is to run JPetStore's Struts web tier (as stated in the lib/readme.txt file in the distribution). Scott/All, I updated AbstractJasperReportsView to set the Content-Disposition header to inline. Providing you give your report file the appropriate file extension it will render PDFs correctly in IE now. I tested this on 10 IE machines in the office and it worked nice. If you need more complex header manipulation I added the setHeaders() method to all you to pass in a Properties for any headers you want written to each response. Hope this helps. There's been talk about replacing CGLIB with Janino. I use Janino a lot and it's a very nice tool. However, Janino is IMO not fit to replace CGLIB in Spring. Classes generated by Janino cannot be de-serialized in another VM because the generated classes can probably not be loaded. Scott, Rob, I encountered a similar problem with JNLP files in IE6. Whenever I tried to download them it popped up a dialog saying "Internet Explorer cannot download thefilename from theservername. Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet Site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.". It appears this can be cause by several different things. In my case it was related to cache control headers, specifically IE does not like it if the file to download has a "Cache-Control: No Store" and or "Cache-Control: No Cache" header. In the case of https, I get the "Unable to download file" error and under http I get the blank page. There is supposed to be a workaround in the AbstractJasperReportsView for these IE specific issues but it does not seem to work for me. Has anyone gotten this to work? If so was there anything special they needed to do to accomplish this? I am working with Build 190 I think. All, Just before Christmas there as a lot of discussion about the various directions in which we can take the bytecode-based AOP proxying support. I like to restart this discussion with a view to me working on this in time for the 1.2 release. There are a couple of issues outstanding related to the CGLIB proxying, one which requires an update from CGLIB (which I think they are working on) and one which requires to us to decide on how to handle constructor args for proxies in a declarative manner.
