Speed-Dreams has a number of different race types/modes. These are intended to represent the different events in a real life driver would experience. They are:
Once the race type is selected the track, drivers and other parameters can be selected in the 'Configure Menu'. When you are ready to race just click 'Start'
This process is a series of menu pages. Not all are shown for all race types, for example in a 'Career' race you do not get to select the track, you have to go where the races are ;-)
The first page lets to select the location and type of track. The tracks are grouped into 'Road', 'Circuits', 'Off-road', etc. The menu gives a outline map and some details about the location, track length, etc.
The second page lets you select which drivers will race. Speed-Dreams has a large number of robot competitors for you to race against, these are grouped by car type and robot type. Multiple humans can simultaneously race using the split screen function, although they control should be mapped to separate controllers.
The third page lets you select some other parameters for the race, such as the scheduled length of the race, time of day or weather. Not all robots support all functions, so some of the options may be 'greyed out'.
Race distance is decided by (in precedence order):
The race parameters menu allows simultaneous editing only for session time and lap number. It also transparently hides "fallback race distance" when timed session is supported and session time is set, and when timed session is not supported it transparently hides session time. As of yet, extra laps are editable in the menu even for non-race type races.
