When coasting (i.e putting the gear in neutral) down an incline at low speed, one can hear the tires screeching as if they are skidding. This occurs even when no steering pressure is applied. It is particularly noticeable just before the car comes to a stop, after loosing energy from a downhill coast.
My SD version is 1.4.0r-2307
Confirmed also in r2851 of the trunk.
When looking at the car from a side when this sound can be heard, seems that it makes this screeching noise because the tires are really screeching ... guess what ... because the driving wheels are rolling the opposite way of the car moves !
Probably something common with "wheels often rolling even when the car is stopped" ...

Whoa.. didn't notice that! However, I think I should also mention that the skid marks are also visible.
Replying to mahela007:
Apologies to the bug fixers.. this ticket should read "Tire screeching noise heard under conditions which should NOT make tires skid."
Changed accordingly.
Kristof, is it something in your plans for 2.0 (hesitating for the target milestone) ?
Let's try 2.0, I hope I can fix it until then.
Kristof, I propose we postpone this after 2.0 (too late now, IMO).
I agree, it is not a big problem after all.
