Hello, Shital. SourceJammer stores all of its files using its own naming convention, which is actually pretty simple, but not relavent right now. It does not use the actual name of the file to name it's own representation of your file. If you want a simple to install and set up backup utility, you might want to look at SyncJammer (another tool I coded a while back). You can get it as http://syncjammer.sourceforge.net Thanks. --Rob --- Shital Patel <shi...@op...> wrote: > I just found about the sourceJammer and i installed server on suse linux > 9.2 (SJ version 2.1) > Now i have one question. > > How do i take weekly back up of my code. There is not executable installation at this time--only zip files. Michael, I know this will not sound very helpful to you, but I just did a new installation of Eclipse 3.0 and downloaded SJ Eclipse from the update site, restarted Eclipse, and SJ Eclipse worked flawlessly. I really don't know what the problem you're having might be. From what the message sounds like, it almost seems that Eclipse can't actually find the SJ Eclipse jar file, which makes no sense at all. Does anyone else out there have any thoughts? Has anyone experienced a problem like this? A thought just occurred to me. I'm using Eclipse 3.0.2. You're using 3.0.0. Could that account for the problem? --Rob --- Robert MacGrogan <rob...@ya...> wrote: > The only restriction on JRE is 1.4 or later. The only restriction on JRE is 1.4 or later. You should be fine with your setup, but obviouly there's a problem. Sorry I have not had a chance to do the "clean room" install of the plugin myself. Has anyone else had this problem? It sounds like everything should be working, Michael (though, actually, I'm not familiar with the -clean option and am not sure why you had to launch Eclipse this way). I'll try a fresh "clean room" install of SJ Eclipse to see if I experience anything similar, though. --Rob --- Michael Goerlich <mgo...@cs...> wrote: > > > > > Hello, > > I've installed the SourceJammerPlugin 1.0.1 in my Eclipse environment via > the Eclipse Update Site Feature. Hello, I've installed the SourceJammerPlugin 1.0.1 in my Eclipse environment via the Eclipse Update Site Feature. After launching Eclipse (with -clean option) I wanted to open the preference page for SJEclipse but I got the error "Unable to create the selected preference page" with the reason "Plug-in org.sourcejammer.extension.sjeclipse was unable to load class org.sourcejammer.extension.sjeclipse.PreferencePage" I'm using Eclipse 3.0.0. Any help available? |

Hi Rob, Brant, I remember reading a while back that a potential source of slowness was how you have your DNS set up to resolve names. The symptom was that external references were quick to resolve while local references were very slow. I'm sorry that I can't remember what the exact problem and solution were but this may be something to look into. Look in the archives/[archive name]/plugin-work/event-logger. There's a log file for each day. It is in kind of a funky format because it is intended that this log will be machine readable and be used for generating reports and other functionality at some point in the future. This should tell you every single change that SJ made to your archive on any given day. --Rob --- Kev...@re... wrote: > Hello Rob, > > We had our Sys Admin person manually replace the file on the server. Don't really know that the cause could be. I have not tested SJ with Java 1.5, yet, so it's possible that there's an issue there, but that does not seem likely. One thing you could do is check your appstats page: http://[sj host url:port]/sourcejammer/AppStats This will show the amount of memory available to SJ's JVM, among other things. Might be of interest. Another possible question is, how much stuff is in your SJ archives? How many files, all together. If you have a lot of files (more than 1000) that you look at on a regular basis, SJ might need to read the meta data from disk more often than is optimal (as opposed to reading in from the in-memory cache). Keep in mind, also, that when you re-start your server, it will have to re-build the cache. This could mean that the first time you view the contents of a given folder, that the contents will seem to load slowly. The next time you view that folder, though, it should load much more quickly. And in case you're wondering, it is possible to increas the cache size. Check the docs section of the sourcejammer.org site. --Rob --- bra...@ch... wrote: > Robert, > > The issue seems to be with my server. Robert, The issue seems to be with my server. When I connect to the the SourceJammer development server (http://dev.sourcejammer.org.....) I get really good performance. However, when I connect to my server on my local network I get really pour performance. This even occurs when I open the SourceJammer client on the server machine and connect to the archive. I am running one instance of the SJ server. Could it be something in the Tomcat configuration? (I am using the default config files) -- Brant K. I can't think of anything obvious that would cause SJ itself to run slow. However, a network latency could cause slow performance. Hello, Harry. Since SourceJammer is a java product, it can run under any OS for which there is a Java virtual machine. This means SJ runs under Windows, Linux, Unix, and Mac. Hi, Brant. I want to make sure I understand what's going on. Do you have one instance of that SJ server that is running or two? Hi, Mark. Glad you like SourceJammer and I hope you decide to use it. As for the GPL/GLPL thing: there is a slight problem with the GPL build. I assure you that it is the GPL release that you have if the file name says gpl. But this release is not configured by default to use the Gnu Diff algorithm. You should be able to fix this, though. Modify your conf.xml file (on your server and all of your clients) by adding the following: <DiffAlgorithmClass>JLibDiff.GnuDiffAlgorithm</DiffAlgorithmClass> That should tell the system to use the Gnu Diff engine. Give it a try and let me know if it works out. As for the SCC api--I have no information on that. I can't remember who said they were working on that and I have not heard anything about it for a long time. The best thing I can offer you is the new Eclipse plugin. I could also offer my own guidance if someone on your team felt like contributing that to the project. It probably would not be horribly difficult. Thanks. --Rob --- Mark Borgelt <mar...@la...> wrote: > Hello, > > I am a programmer/analyst with a small company in New Mexico, USA. Hello, I am a programmer/analyst with a small company in New Mexico, USA. We have a very small IT staff with a lot of different code to manage and we are seriously considering SourceJammer for the job. We downloaded the 2.1.0.0 (GPL release?) and got a test environment running with very little trouble. We're using a linix server with windows clients (java 1.5.0_02) and have been evaluating the system for about a week with pretty good results. We like several aspects of the system, but need to know a couple things before going forward. After installation, we discovered we had the LGPL release even though the download claimed to be GPL. We have tried downloading from several different locations, but always seem to end up with the LGPL version. At first we didn't think this would matter, but have since stumbled over the issue of text differencing engines and file size limitations. In our environment we have some source files that need to be treated as text files, but could grow to a size where the text differencing will fail. It appears this issue is resolved by the GPL text diff engine (correct?), but where can we get this release? Hope this is not just something stupid that I'm doing... What is the status of an SCC api for SourceJammer? I read in the users mail archive that someone was developing this for use with TOAD, but couldn't find anything about the current status of that project. We use a couple products that support this interface and it would make a nice integration for us. Thanks for any help you can give us. And many thanks to the development team for a cool, open source product! Best regards, Mark Borgelt Laguna Industries, Inc. |

Hello, Luis. A little bit more information might help me figure this out for you. What version of SourceJammer are you using? Have you tried looking for a server-side stack-trace on the error message by looking in the log file of the servlet container where your SJ server runs? Hello, Nadir. There is no database. SJ stores all files directly on the filesystem (which makes setup pretty easy, I think). Your SJ archives can be accessed via a web browser, but that is for read operations only. No checkins/outs through a web interface. Regardless, SJ does need to run in a servlet contianer (such as Tomcat) because it uses SOAP as its rpc protocol. All the documentation is available on the docs page at http://www.sourcejammer.org Thanks. --Rob --- Nadir Sherali <na...@ya...> wrote: > Hi, Bob, > > We came across your product, SourceJammer, on the web and > would like to know the following. > > 1.
