Hi all,
i finally managed to convert the cvs to svn :-)
here are some notes:
- - - i filtered out the unstable branch, because all additons to the cvs
were comited to the trunk anyway

the empty folders for node, please check the other 2 modules and
either send me a mail with the missing folders or add them to the svn
repository
if svn is tested we will disable cvs in the near future.

Dear SOTF Team, I collected a few notes around SOTF recently, and I guess now is the time to send them all to you. Maybe some of it is of use for you, I guess a lot will be on your do to lists anyway. I wish you all the best for the sprint. robert no particular order: * password change is possible now without knowing the old one. * users should be able to receive password reminders via email or username reminders if they only remember email adress. * rss feed only delivers the first 10 results, at least on this: http://radio.sztaki.hu/node/rss.php?series=011se51&uiLang=ger is that on purpose? * theme list is somewhat strange and uneven. we should reconsider using existing library standards and include multilingual versions of it, at least as an option next to sotf and soma. (note aug 05: maybe we add using tags as in flicker or delicious) * we could have ogg conversion and automatically offer it just like the two other standards. * rating fields should be explained from "5stars very interesting" to "1star not so interesting" or alike. 5 stars do not necessarily mean best, although anticipated by most people. * the person icons could be smaller than the programme icons. e.g. 50x50 for persons, 100x100 for programmes. and they could be converted to png, to support that standard. it could go along with the mac standard for chat icons etc. * the language list could feature a short set of ~50 in the pull down and an additional button to access a standardized set of all languages of the world. * does sotf already meet the W3C's standards for accessibility to disabled people? * characters should be checked when uploading files and adapted to certain standard (max lenght, no special chars, no space,..). It happened to me that a file could be uploaded but not deleted due to a special character being used. * we could need some design update for icons, fonts, css, colours. * one should be able to programm a playlist and make that into a podcasting link that you can put to your homepage. * nice to have: searchable playlists from users on the node frontpage. * below programmes it could be displayed how many people have this prog on the playlist and who. * playlists and portals not accessed for certain time should be erased after notification to author. * for our Community TV-archive, we will need to store information about what publishing rights the programme has itself and what other legal conditions are connected to it. So you can add a list of the music used, incl the data for collecting societies, you can add further legal issues and you can add your own licence, from "all rights reserved" to a CC licence or something like "no restriction". also, you might add information what you have to do in order to use a programme (e.g. "ask this person for permission") |

hi everyone, sorry to say, but i cannot take part in the sprint event next week for private reasons. therefore i want to report some small issues which came up in context with the viennese node of radio orange 94.0 1. we've found a lot of typos in german content of sotf_topics, please find our corrected version as pg-dump attached to this email. 2. we have also refined the german wording as viewable under http://sendungsarchiv.o94.at/ - for example we differ in 'sender', 'sendereihen' and 'einzelsendungen', which seems to be more clear than the orignal german nomenclature. if anyone is interested we may contribute the modified ger.conf 3. the topic with most sub-topics seems to be sports. which community/free radio has it's main focus on sports? i fear most of this subtopics won't be used at all. is there any chance to refine the general topics-list? some of them are branded with question marks, giving a quite unordinary impression to visitors. in fact some of the listed sports are even hard to find with google... ;) 4. concerning to the experiences made at the technical museum we changed the order of lines of the search-page. after installation from scratch the fields designated to define your search appear underneath the line containig the result (your search request), which is against practice. most people have difficulties to understand this without explanation. the other way round as to see at http://sendungsarchiv.o94.at/advsearch.php seems to be more clear. best regards herbert -- ________________________________________________ debugging is finished when the last user is dead http://no-na.net wer will kann mal public pgp key http://no-na.net/pgp |

i wrote a first draft for online-help files to be included in the node
and fill the mostly empty help-link. it adresses mainly users which are
not skilled enough to get known by the interface itself about features
and stuff. please have a look on it. if you agree more or less to the
content i would create some html-pages out of it for integration in cvs
and tarballs. it's just in english. would be great to get some
translations ... (the english version will be corrected by a native
english-speaker)
second:
just wanted to inform you that we had a nice streamonthefly-presentation
on the interactive musicnetwork days in vienna. it was a pitty that TT
could not join it ;( ... so i did it alone.
people was quiet interested in the software. i had a lot of fun with
some guys from the technical-university in vienna. they wrote an
algorithm to analyse audio-streams and display them in a geographical
worldmap. i will stay in contact with them to have a funny testprojekt
on analysing the material in the node-network ... ;))

A number of radio stations, who use StreamOnTheFly as their repository and to exchange content in the SOTF network is growing steadily and can be used as PodCasting Server. Developers, partners and potential future users have requested a Sprint Event, which will now take place end of August 2005 in the Alps. On the technical side, we would like to get some pending issues done, such as scheduling, video support, XBMF and life radio integration. Furthermore, we will have sessions on operational, legal (CC) and political issues in the community media sector and preparations for the AXMEDIS conference, which has accepted our latest paper on StreamOnTheFly for IEEE publication. The sprint will take place in a small village in Bregenzer Wald (http://www.alberschwende.at/). We will have Mesmer's Stadl as a big workshop room and meeting rooms at Telesis and PUBLIC VOICE Lab. We will organize Bed, Brunch, Rooms, Beamer, WLAN Network, Technical Support and Evening Events (cheese making, summer-toboggan, hut, etc). After the Sprint, some people may visit the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz (www.aec.at/festival/), which is starting 5 days later. In thiis period, you can make some holidays in the alps or in the Bodensee or Salzburg lake area or we extend the workshops for a few days and combine it with hiking. A Sprint events means: achieve real results with concentrated efforts in a nice working environment. Existing id3 info is usually valuable (but sometimes it may contain offensive content, ads or rubbish when used maliciously or by beginners). 2. SOTF is meant to be a real archive, and therefore it takes over also id3 tags. At least some reference to SOTF or an URL to its current location would be necessary (as you also suggest). But ID3v1 tags are too short for an URL. Note that ID3v2 tags are not handled yet... Andras |

Hi all, That's good news, having Orange again close to SOTF! I'm almost sure you can take that ID. For the future I'd have to suggestions: 1. Create a new list just for node administrators. 2. Maintain an ID list as a separate document on SourceForge. Or should we put it into the CVS? hello sotfworld, i'm happy to announce a new node in the network - it will serve as the main audioarchive for radio orange and related projects in vienna. to be in sync with the rest of the sotf-world i kindly ask the list if node id '094' is still unused and and can be taken by the new http://o94.at node. another thing i want to mention is that this node will feature 2 ogg/vorbis qualities and low-qual mp3 of 48kbit/mono. but this should not be a problem for the syncing anyway. in 1-2 weeks the install notes will be posted on this list. cheers, roland jankowski |

Hi,
i found that the podcast.php doesn't work with iPodder on Mac OS X:
rss gets computed, could subscribe to the feed, files got downloaded
BUT: the downloaded files were named like "fid__668mf218"
The files don't have a extension of .mp3 and therefore iTunes doesn't
read them :-(
nor the operating system displays them as mp3s :-(
i did 2 things to get this working:
1) i added header info to getFile.php (line 68):

This worked well for browsers, as the downloaded files are now
named like the original file on the node repository
(achw128_2ch_128kbps.mp3)
BUT:
iPodder still saves them as "fid_668mf218" :-(
2) to get rid of this problem i did this dirty hack:
in podcast.php each enclosure gets the url of the file in the
form of : http://stream.fhv.at:8081/node/getFile.php/fid_668mf218
i changed this to http://stream.fhv.at:8081/node/getFile.php/
fid_668mf218.mp3
i changed getFile.php that if fid is given it checks for an
ending with string ".mp3" and rips it off the end to get the original
fid of 668mf218
it's quite dirty, but now iPodder saves the files as
"fid_668mf218.mp3"
Please folks tell me if this is ok and if i should add it to the cvs?
at present podcasting is not working on mac os x !!!
And there is another problem:
when you upload files to the node, the id3 info of the files gets
erased and replaced with some (internal) info like station id.
The files end up with title "untitled" , artist "" and album "id:
668pr110"
I think that is a very bad behaviour, especially when you spent hours
with organizing your mp3 library.
I would suggest following one of this ways:
1) flip the process of adding programmes. First enter the metadata
and then add the files.
Pro: we could use the titel and other metadata to generate id3
tags in the files
Con: would be good to regenerate id3 tags everytime metadata
gets changed
2) don't overwrite id3 at all
3) check if titel and artist are entered in id3, when not write titel
"id: 668pr110" and artist "<name of station or name of node>"
4) leave id3 as is in file and add "id: 668pr110" to the comment
field of the id3
What do you suggest?

The www.StreamOnTheFly.org project site would need a major relaunch. It should include selected series and driectly offer topic - related podCasts. ;-/ Anyway, some stations develop very nicely.
