Skim Version 1.5.5 (121) on macos x 10.15.2 (Catalina) doesn't seem to be able to export notes to any format any more.
Expected behaviour: Export notes content (which appear in Skim) to file.
Actual behaviour: File is created but is empty without any notes content being exported to it. For example if export to text is selected, the corresponding txt file will be of size Zero bytes.
That is weird, there have been no changes in the saving or notes code.
To be clearer: This seems to happen when I highlight text and add a note to the highlighted text.
I see no problem, for me Skim saves notes in any format. Does your PDF actually has any notes?
Also, this is not the latest version for Skim.
Yes, the PDF has attached notes to various parts of highlighted text.
I have just installed Skim 1.5.6 and I still have the problem.
I wonder if this is not a permission problem with Catalina that prevents Skim from writing content to the file (although it does create the file).
If the file is created, I cannot see how this could be a permission problem.
Do you have this just for exporting text notes? Or also Skim notes? And does it happen with just this file, or any file with notes? Could you attach a problematic file (with the notes, so perhaps saved as archive)?
I found the issues. The notes were initially created in Preview. I forgot to export them to Skim notes. This is why. Sorry about the confusion.
At least tracking this made me find another problem with Catalina (a Finder bug that affected Skim).
Skim is really awesome! I am very grateful for your time and apologise for not having spotted this in the first place.
