Hello Developers, can anybody explain to me why all Ruby variables concerning the Viewport (e.g. "Viewport.XRes") seem to be ignored although they are read in spark/plugin/openglsyssdl/openglsystemsdl.cpp ? And where do the used values (800 x 600 pixels) actually come from then? I seem to be blind on this spot. The goal is to enlarge the monitor window to something above 1024x768 pixels. 800x600 is way too small to show any details without having to pan/zoom around a lot. Running simspark on a much higher resolution will probably not be a major issue for my Radeon 4850. -- mit freundlichen Grüßen/regards Simon Raffeiner University of Applied Sciences Offenburg, Germany Computer Science Department, RoboCup Team |

The attached patch allows to override the path to the default script via command line. I use it together with a directory structure like this: - simspark-scripts/soccer-withmonitor/simspark.rb has the internal monitor enabled - simspark-scripts/soccer-withoutmonitor/simspark.rb has the internal monitor disabled - simspark-scripts/soccer-genetic/simspark.rb has the internal monitor disabled and includes simspark-scripts/soccer-genetic/naosoccersim.rb (instead of just "naosoccersim.rb") which contains some settings for genetic optimization It is now possible to have a single installation and let multiple people use their own settings without having to edit system files all the time. -- mit freundlichen Grüßen/regards Simon Raffeiner University of Applied Sciences Offenburg, Germany Computer Science Department, RoboCup Team |

Hi Hedayat, In the German Open we had the problem that some teams did not run correctly with the league manager script (and unfortunately we weren't able to figure out what went wrong), so they had to be started by hand and in that case being able to do a kickoff from the right side came in handy. And of course it wouldn't hurt at all to have that feature in the first place, to be able to run a full match with the external monitor and without the league manager :-) Sander On Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 7:53 PM, Hedayat Vatankhah <hed...@ai...>wrote: > Hi, > Thank you for the patch. Hi, Thank you for the patch. But what we did for RoboCup 2008 and IranOpen2009 was changing the side of teams after the first half (this is done by the league manager script I sent to Sander), so there was no need to issue a kick off right command on the second half. Does anybody use the current SimSpark in an automated environment, e.g. in a headless setup (no GUI) doing genetic optimization? I'm having a list of problems: - spark/plugin/inputsdl/inputsystemsdl.cpp tries to SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_VIDEO) although the server is supposed to run without an internal monitor and the input layer doesn't need video. This completely breaks the server when run from an SSH session. IMO the complete "if (!SDL_WasInit(SDL_INIT_VIDEO))" block can be removed. - I have to put multiple installations in different locations if I don't want to fiddle with scripts all the time because paths are static. IMO the simspark binary should take a path to an initialization script on the command line and only use the default one if none is given. - AFAICT there is no possibility to run a simulation without rules, e.g. to optimize a kick the ball always has to be in the same location and BeforeKickOff does not allow the client to run into the center. The environment also has to be reset. The only "solution" I could come up with is to restart the server after every run and/or create a monitor connection in parallel which tries to resets things. - Is there a possibility to run the simulation as fast as possible while still using 20 ms timesteps? My solution would be to advance the simulation as soon as all present agents sent their commands for this step or the usual 20ms are over. I "solved" most of the problems in some way or an other so depending on your feedback patches may already be ready. -- regards Simon Raffeiner University of Applied Sciences Offenburg, Germany Computer Science Department, RoboCup Team |

This patch against rcssmonitor3d binds the PlayMode "KickOffRight" to the Key "j". Without this patch it is impossible to complete a game because the only possibility to continue the game after half time is pressing "k" which gives a KickOff to the left team again. Patch originally from Sander van Dijk, tested on German OPEN 2009 in Hannover/Germany. We played all important games with this patch enabled. regards Simon Raffeiner |

Hi Sander and the rest, I'll send patches first and maybe apply for an SVN account later. If I manage to get simstress (load generator for infrastructure tests) in shape we may possibly use it in Graz, but at the moment it's a *very* ugly hack (even written in plain C using POSIX Threads, not C++). -- mit freundlichen Grüßen Simon Raffeiner |

Hello all, I have just made a commit to the simspark SVN repository with a patch that should fix false registration of goals when the ball hits the goal post or the outside of the goal and hopefully prevents the registration of a goal as a goal kick. It seems to work well here, but of course this kind of thing needs a large amount of tests to reliable rule out that such an error still occurs. So it would be good if people try out the latest SVN revision and report if this bug still appears. The fix consists of shrinking the collision box in the goal that registers a valid goal, so it only happens when the ball is fully over the line (this also matches the official FIFA rules better) and the ball is also only registered as out of the field when the full ball is over te line (plus a little bit to hopefully reduce the number of false goal kicks). Hey Simon, I guess an attached patch file would be easiest. If you're interested in helping to maintain the simulator further of course you're always welcome and perhaps indeed one of the admins can give you access (Oliver/Jan/Joschka/Markus?) if you have a sourceforge account. Hi all: I've been using the new simspark(0.61) for a while, and here are some of my experience. I remembered last year in Suzhou, China, the OC tested if the old simspark(0.6) could afford a 4 vs 4 competetion, and unfortunately the server crashed. Then in 2009 China Open, thanks to Feng Xue and other MC members, the simspark runned perfectly after being slowed down to 40ms a cycle, which means after each cycle, the server sleeps 20 ms. We had wonderful competitions of 4 vs 4. And based on the test, the server could afford 5 vs 5 or even more. So, since the server can be slowed down to 40ms a cycle(actually, it won't affect the attraction of the competetion), and allows more agents, why don't we use the same method in the new server 0.61? If so, the server will be much more stable( without any skkipping time) and we can do the some strategy research, and develop more intelligent agents. Thanks Lin Xiao -- |
