Hi there, It would be interesting to be able to export to a file epd positions tactical exercises with marks or other marks. I mean, you can export all the positions of the items have a score tactical exercise. Thanks |

I've been making many small commits to subversion - mostly minor bug-fixes. Nothing really stands out. Maybe these * Shift+Wheelmouse will now *scroll the gamelist and crosstable horizontally* in linux. In OS X this feature is enabled via two finger horizontal scrolling (In theorey it should work in windows too, but i havent tested it). * in the Mainteneance window one can now Strip Comments/Variarion from multiple games (without having to export and import pgn as previosuly). * in Maintenance/Strip (extra) Tags, this fetaure can now be sued for fremoving tags from the filter games only (instead of whole database) Concerning release schedule, i'm thinking to make a feature-poor release of 4.13 in a couple of months. It will use Wish-8.6 , which seems stable enough to me and more attractive dialog-boxes (amongst other things). One thing i've been thinking about is re-ordering of the gamelist columns. It's not too hard to do, but the issue is - it isdamn confusing when having multiple bases open. Mainline SCID git allows different column arrangements for each open base [and multiple gamelists/switchers - way too confusing] but this doesnt work imho. So , added to the fact that the tk widget we use (tktreeview) doesnt really support column rearrangement, and any implementation is a hack, i might just pass on rearranging columns for the immediate future. I should also mention, recent Scid git versions have been messing with the databse backend and (specifically) name frequencies. It's probably best not to use Scid git for major database work without backing up your databases, as name corruption is possible, and there is also a lot of untested code. Steven |

Hi, I realise you use OS X , butand after examining the Snack source code (it is very poorly coded imho), i'm too disillusioned with Linux Tcl Audio (Snack) to work on this much. Sound hardly works on my computer, I'm not real keen on the voices either. I don't think the computer generated voices are accurate enough to use with Scid. I'm forwarding this to the mailing list in case anyone else is interested. cheers, Steven. >________________________________ > From: Ilídio Martins <ili...@gm...> >To: Steven <ste...@ya...> >Sent: Saturday, 31 May 2014 10:14 AM >Subject: Re: Voices for Scid (Mac OS X voice && Laura) > > > >Hello Steve, > >I just speed a bit Alex voice... it's now called Alexis >https://www.dropbox.com/s/6m4wqd8bea5nplf/Alexis.zip > > > >About Laura Voice... You can filter the database with the search functions and then in the maintenance window (Control+M) delete all filtered games. |

We definitely have issues here. I had a decent look at it tonight, and i'm not sure they're easily/entirely fixable. Anyway - i squished a small (?) bug, and made another hack for a speed bump, so it's a least small steps. Here is the change (and maybe there'll be more this week). Probably limiting engine threads to something sane will help too. http://sourceforge.net/p/scidvspc/code/1877/ Oh yeah - i also changed how the "Opening errors only" works. It was a little borked - and used to bomb out as soon as moves went out of book, but now always goes for the first "N" moves. I'm beginning to really use this feature :) |

Is there a simple way to write change, and delete pgn files from a database created by me in SCID. The help instructions and process are very confusing. I don't seem to think the same way you program. I simply want to be able to add, maintain, and delete single pgn files in a database I created without all the interim steps. -- Sincerely, Keith McCaughin |

Hmmm - depth 25 is very deep. I'm wondering if on occasion engines will never get this far and/or have unusual behaviour ? Anyway - please email me any games that reproducibly fail annotation at depth - for testing - though i *mightn't* get around to it in a hurry. thanks, S.A On Mon, May 5, 2014 at 9:10 AM, Ralph Moritz <ral...@ou...> wrote: > I’m pretty sure the first one is a bug but not sure about the second: > > > > 1. Oh, I forgot one important detail: I'm analysing with Stockfish DD x64. From: Ralph Moritz [mailto:ral...@ou...] Sent: 05 May 2014 01:10 AM To: sci...@li... Subject: [Scidvspc-users] Possible bugs annotating to fixed depth I'm pretty sure the first one is a bug but not sure about the second: 1. Sometimes when annotating games to a fixed depth some moves are not annotated. I have seen this happen at depth 25, but not at depth 10 or 15. However, this does not occur consistently. 2. Certain moves are analysed at depths far greater than the max depth. This seems to occur regardless of what the max depth is set to. FYI I'm using the RC of 4.12, x64 version. Cheers, Ralph |

I have seen this happen at depth 25, but not at depth 10 or 15. However, this does not occur consistently. 2. Certain moves are analysed at depths far greater than the max depth. Ok... I've changed this. One click sorting (in the gamelist) is now only done for read-only bases and the clipbase. (There was also an issue with the gamelist sort affecting the order of the main sort feature, which has been corrected.) Hi, Steve, the ability to sort the database just by clicking on the column is a nice feature... that I keep running into unintentionally. I'd like the confirmation dialog to appear not only for big databases, but for all of them. Don't you all have now all your databases sorted by White or Black? :-) -- Saludos. Hi Gregor, thanks for the info. I've very dumb about the eco codes. For example, the A26 code in the link you posted: every game that starts with "1. c4 e5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. g3 g61. c4 e5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. g3 g6" is ECO A26? And if so, what is the meaning of the second line "4. Bg2 Bg7 5.d3"? About the A00 - A06 code: how transpositions are managed? To classify a game it's used the longest matching line, or it's required to build the final positions of ECO lines and check if the game reached that position? I would like to have consistent ECO classification between scid and scidb (and possibily with other chess open source software too): could you write an email to chess informant asking for clarifications? Thanks, Fulvio P.S. I think that scid.eco may contain the following problems: A00m "Van Geet: 1...d5 2.Nf3" 1.Nc3 d5 2.Nf3 * Due to ECO this is: A06 "Reti: Reversed Mexican Defence" 1.Nf3 d5 2.Nc3 but in fact this isn't really clear, the ECO definitions are quite sloppy. ChessBase assigns A00, but Scidb assigns A06. A25 "English: Closed, 5.d3" 1.c4 e5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.g3 g6 4.Bg2 Bg7 5.d3 * A25 "English: Closed, 5.d3 Nge7" 1.c4 e5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.g3 g6 4.Bg2 Bg7 5.d3 Nge7 * This is A26, although many sources are assigning A25, but have a look at the reference http://www.chessinformant.rs/content/eco/eco_a/eco_a2.html, and even ChessBase agrees with A26 (is it possible that the ECO code has changed sometimes?) A04 "Reti" 1.Nf3 * Due to most sources this is the Zukertort Opening. "Sometimes the term Réti Opening is used to describe the opening move 1.Nf3, although most sources define the Réti more narrowly as the sequence 1.Nf3 d5 2.c4." (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zukertort_Opening). So this seems to be more common: A04 "Zukertort" 1.Nf3 * A06 "Zukertort: Queen Pawn Defence" 1.Nf3 d5 * A09a "Reti" 1.Nf3 d5 2.c4 * Cheers, Gregor |

Hi Steve, Just tried this, I get two options: default and plughw:0. Default gives the first word only and nothing else while plughw:0 causes the following error: Could not open plughw:0 for write. Could not open plughw:0 for write. while executing "$sound play -blocking 0 -command "incr ::utils::sound::isPlayingSound -1"" (procedure "::utils::sound::PlaySoundQueue" line 9) invoked from within "::utils::sound::PlaySoundQueue" ("after" script) On Sat, Mar 29, 2014 at 7:56 PM, Steve A <ste...@gm...> wrote: > The sound device is now selectable from the sound options menu. Hi Steve! I just installed the 4.12 version and there is the sound issue once again, where it only says the first word of a move such as "knight". Did the fix you put in place get taken out of the main trunk? In other news I notice some general speed improvements over 4.11 so it's good. Do we have any news on the Xboard engine playing feature? Thanks once again for this great software! Steve, I just wanted to say how much I'm liking the automatic engine pause after annotation. I often invoke a game annotation before dinner then come back three hours later (after watching a movie) to find steam coming off my computer. Now it cooly and quietly awaits my return. Bravo, Steve |

Awesome, thank you. Btw, I was pleasantly surprised to find that you'd quietly fixed the annoying bug causing a focus switch after selecting a variation from the variation pop-up.
