It looks like your window manager is exporting it's colour scheme to other apps. You'll have to disable this option somewhere in the window manager's settings. Steven |

Hi, Am new to scidvspc and first thing I notice after installation is the colour difference to what I see in the screenshot at sourceforge compared to my installation (attached screenshot). How do I make the dark colour (#1b1d1e) to lighter/white everywhere? And also font colour of 'moves' in pgn window to darker? Modifying colours in config/options.dat or enabling and changing the options->background colour didn't help either. Hi, often I compact a big database for deleting repeated names, games, and so on. There is a small issue which I find a little bit annoying. 1. I open the mainteance window; 2. I click on "Compact" 3. the compact window appears 4. I click on compact names (or games) 5. and after finishing the "compact window" closes, even if I wnat to compact also the other aspect (names/games)... Could be this behaviour be changed in order to not have to open the compact window again? Many thanks in advance. -- :: Igor Sosa Mayor :: jos...@gm... :: :: GnuPG: 0x1C1E2890 :: http://www.gnupg.org/ :: :: jabberid: rogorido :: :: |

I have updated the webpage and links for the OS X, Win64 and Linux (source code) downloads should now be live. Thanks Ozkan for the windows 64 bit build, and to Gregor for his features and support. Please report nasty bugs, but otherwise i'm looking forward to a break for a while. http://scidvspc.sourceforge.net/index.html#toc3 Just a few notes. Conrol-s now saves (replaces) a game. (Control-S for add game, Control-r to reset the filter) All my testing for depth based annotation has been pretty good :) but i probably wont be fixing any bugs in it for a while. The bulk Strip-Comments/Variation in the maintenance window is a very handy thing, but use it carefully! It is a powerful feature which can't be undone. Windows drag and drop file opens should be working. Phalanx/Tacgame hasn't bee updated really. Dusan has made some (probably) great changes to Phalanx's easy levels, but i havent had the time to track down interface changes to make it work with Scid. Test out the new Skak based Latex export feature too... but please send bug reports / issues to Mark not me. Steve. |

Ok... There's a lot to this software. Hopefully i havent forgotten too much. Please test it out. http://sourceforge.net/projects/scidvspc/files/windows/Scid%20vs%20PC-4.13.exe/download I have gone back to wish-8.5 for this release (the previous beta was with wish-8.6). It is better tested, and on windows the GUI is pretty much the same anyway i think. Windows drag and drop file open had a nasty bug which should be fixed. Depth-based analysis is working much better now. Here's the full changelog from 4.12 cheers. Analysis Engine: exclude move(s) feature. Mouse-hover shows excluded moves (UCI only) Analysis Engine: button to pop-up unrevealed buttons, and redo a few icons Maintenance: Bulk strip Comments/Variations Depth-based Engine Annotation improvements Tweaked Key Bindings (including FilterReset Control-r and GameSave Control-s) Improved Background Colour feature Add 'Find' entry boxes to more windows (including spelling corrections).widget can now use regular expressions Splash widget console now has a simple command history (up-arrow) Better Repair Base feature (from Gregor) Include Gregors fast file opening with the windows 32-bit binary Bind Control-Wheel to alter fixed font size (in some windows) New Russian translation (from Sergey Nikolaevich Koyankin) and updated German one (from surrim) Enforce all tags (eg Event names, etc) to be less than 256 chars Tweak Scid's installer is to properly allow custom SHAREDIR Better handle language translations/encoding Crosstable: bump max-player limit, tweak menus and bind right-click to menu, fix occasional allignment bug, and dont' automatically update (fixing busy cursor bug) Bump Opening Table limits, and minor bug-fixes New (Skak) Latex export-games feature (author Mark Dennehy) Update Xfcc to handle secure connections (thanks to Andrew Hunt) Fix minor memory leaks, and dont slow game file compaction (we now reset filter) Bestgames has a game load menu instead of 3 buttons Refine docked window drag and drop Many minor OS X tweaks Trim whitespace from name fields in game save dialog Add whitespace corrections to spelling.ssp, and also tweak Event spelling corrections Tooltips for the obscure buttons in main buttonbar Analysis add move as 'New Mainline' was broke Always get confirmation for sorting via gamelist Enforce illegalilty of saving Event Date without Game Date Make a few windows have small font buttons Shift+Wheel scrolls a few widgets horizontally Break up the long Book Tuning button menus Many minor bugfixes and further tree-only filter fixes |

I'm using the current svn (21 Oct 2014) version, complete with the new https fix for Xfcc. I'm having an issue using ICCF. I'm not quite sure what the issue is or where to go with it. It appears to be contacting the server properly, but I get the following error quoted below. If I configure an SSL tunnel, and connect to localhost using standard HTTP, it works just fine. Here's the error SCID is giving me: > error "no element found" at line 1 character 0 > error "no element found" at line 1 character 0 > while executing > "dom parse $xml" > (procedure "::Xfcc::SOAPError" line 12) > invoked from within > "::Xfcc::SOAPError $name $xml" > (procedure "::Xfcc::ProcessAll" line 25) > invoked from within > "::Xfcc::ProcessAll $::CorrespondenceChess::Inbox" > (procedure "::CorrespondenceChess::FetchGames" line 12) > invoked from within > "::CorrespondenceChess::FetchGames" > invoked from within > ".ccWindow.top.retrieveCC invoke " > invoked from within > ".ccWindow.top.retrieveCC instate !disabled { .ccWindow.top.retrieveCC > invoke } " > invoked from within > ".ccWindow.top.retrieveCC instate pressed { .ccWindow.top.retrieveCC > state !pressed; .ccWindow.top.retrieveCC instate !disabled > { .ccWindow.top.retriev..." > (command bound to event) -- Rich Pinkall Pollei <whr...@gm...> |

Hmmm - that seems a good solution. But is it quite ok ? You can still succesfully save long names to the clipbase, then errors occur trying to copy games to a database. BTW, i get an error dialog in SCID using the Control-s binding. Somehow, It wants to show the save dialog twice. S.A. window name "save" already exists in parent window name "save" already exists in parent while executing "toplevel $w" (procedure "gameSave" line 14) invoked from within "gameSave [sc_game number] " (procedure "::gameReplace" line 1) invoked from within "::gameReplace " On Sat, Oct 11, 2014 at 6:19 AM, Ben St-Pierre <ben...@gm...> wrote: > http://sourceforge.net/p/scid/code/ci/6c597b91eca5d5c537e417d25b8aae2de0632485/ > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Meet PCI DSS 3.0 Compliance Requirements with EventLog Analyzer > Achieve PCI DSS 3.0 Compliant Status with Out-of-the-box PCI DSS Reports > Are you Audit-Ready for PCI DSS 3.0 Compliance? Thanks Jörn, I think it is sufficient and best to just silently truncate all names to 255 chars ??? (patch attached). But it is not ideal... the game instance will be misrepresented until the game is reloaded, but db integrity should be ok. A simple alternative would to throw an error inside AddName, which (after a quick test) results in the name being set to '?' Without a heap of code (there are 36 calls to AddName), i'm not sure we can handle any gui-generated error gracefully ? The error is obviously not a common one. Dear Steven, I guess there is a small bug when you enter more than 256 characters into the "event"-field. After you try to save the database, the program shows a error-message. If you want to reopen this database, the program crashes. Trying to fix the database with "scidt -N databasename" shows that the database is corrupted. A short GOOGLE search shows a trick to recover the database, however the information in the name file is lost and maybe some hours of work. You can reproduce the error, if you fill the event-filed with 255 characters, store it and everything is fine. Adding another char and try to store the game again, the program crashes. I hope this helps to improve your wonderfull program. Best regards Joern |

> What happens every now and then is that I download a PGN file from somewhere and start analysing before .... Yeah, i often do this too. The best solution is Control+c to copy the game to clipbase, then select working base, and Control+v to paste from clipbase. Control+s to save game. These shortcuts are valid for the gamelist and main board. .... I've often pondered about having a "scratch" game on disk, which scidvspc saves as the last game editted, but i'm not quite sure how best to do it. S. |

That's cool. As I said I use si4 almost exclusively anyway. What happens every now and then is that I download a PGN file from somewhere and start analysing before accidentally closing Scid vs. PC. It's just in these situations that it would be nice to have a prompt similar to the one you get when closing an si4 with unsaved changes - just as a safety check. It's frustrating to lose 30 mins worth of analysis. Also, if I've downloaded a PGN I don't always remember to convert it to si4... -----Original Message----- From: Steve A [mailto:ste...@gm...] Sent: 14 September 2014 11:43 PM To: Ralph Möritz; scidvspc-users Subject: Re: [Scidvspc-users] Prompt to save modified PGN file? Yes - sorry Ralph, but i'd like to encourage people to use si4 as much as possible, as i think this is an important part of making best use of the software. If we code saving to pgn archives (as i think Scidb has done), then do we allow drag and drop game copy to pgn archives in the switcher ??? We are only introducing bugs and complexity for no gain. si4 is faster, more compact and well tested, and exporting back to PGN is almost issue free. cheers, S. |

Perhaps a good idea would be to import the pgn file and immediately save it to a database, such as "Misc" or "Temp". Hi Export in latex handles character sets in English so we must add a line in tkscid.cpp: old_language = 0 for the export of the chess game in latex. Thanks |

Hi list, Usually I use the Scid database format to save games, etc. but on occasion I do work with PGN files. What frustrates me is when I open an existing PGN file, do some analysis and then close Scid vs. PC by mistake without being prompted to save the modified PGN file. Is there a setting somewhere that enables a save prompt? Something along the lines of Do you want to save changes to foobar.pgn? Cheers, Ralph |

Just a quick note.. I've updated the build process to properly support custom share directories (SHAREDIR in configure). Previously only /usr and /usr/local work3d. It's been a long time coming, laugh. So next time you checkout, please make sure to do a "./configure" before make install. It'd be nice to have this debugged before the proper release of 4.13. Also - We have a russian translation :) cheers, Steven |

Hi Alan, Yeah, I had a similar experience with chess12, I suspect that it was far more prevalent amongst Latex209 users than Latex2e users. Thing about Latex is though, it gets used by people who just want a working tool because they're more interested in using it to make stuff than tweaking the tools; so Latex tends to stick around for ages -- there may well be a bunch of 209 users still out there using it just because it hasn't broken yet even though 2e took over from 209 twenty years ago. And stripping it out completely is about ten minutes work (I actually did it before writing the skak code just to keep it clean and then unstripped it) so leaving it in costs us nothing at the moment. With the skak package, miktex and texlive both include all the necessary bits and pieces more or less by default (or will automatically download them). It's not just skak; we're using KOMA-Script and pstricks as well. I've tried to keep the number of packages in use down, but it's a balancing act between the cool stuff you can do being useful enough to bring in more users and the things you need to do to install that cool stuff being painful enough to drive away more users. Hi Mark, Chess12 seems to be an outdated and unmaintained package. The font, and instructions to use this font, is difficult to find and even more difficult to install. One has to follow a complex array of arcane and convoluted instructions which requires manual installation of each font folder. I could never do it successfully. On my Linux Mint box, I had to install texlive and texlive-games in order to print my games with diagrams. I'm not sure what font package texlive-games includes. Skak may offer a better font and hopefully a better installation experience. Maybe. On 08/22/2014 07:53 AM, Mark Dennehy wrote: > Thanks for the kind words Dale. Thanks for the kind words Dale. Though if the older format is in use, dropping it for something new without even a crossover period might not be the best idea. Steve, I don't mind taking a peek at the chess12 format as well, it might well be the same problem we have with the skak format when the spacing of the diagrams goes barmy. I don't have any suggestions as such but I'd love to see skak used as the default if the results are as good as the snippet. The analysis graph and the arrows on the board are particularly nice. We have someone making an additional implementation of "Export Game(s) to LaTeX" using the Skak package instead of Chess12. It looks quite nice (snippet attached). So i've been examining our current Latex game export using the Chess12 fonts, and have found some bugs; mostly concerning fitting the game on the pages properly. Does anyone have any hints/suggestions about using this feature ? cheers, S. |

OK, i hacked together a 32 bit windows beta. It will install as 4.13, but run as 4.12, and There's no documentaion update at all. http://sourceforge.net/projects/scidvspc/files/windows-beta/Scid%20vs%20PC_20140803.exe/download It's the first time i've tried to package with wish 8.6. It should look nicer, but there will definitely be bugs though i quashed a few today. cheers, Steven Changes include * Bestgames has a game context menu instead of 3 buttons. * Engine Exclude Move(s) feature (New 'Minus' icon, only works when engine active, and no xboard yet) * , and add a button to popup unrevealed engine icons * Rearrange crosstable menus a little, and bind crosstable right-click to menu * Much improved back-ground colour option/feature (Options->Background) ... and i think i've fixed up the stray vertical line in the gameinfo (if photos are enabled) * Make a few windows have small font buttons * Shift+Wheel scrolls a few widgets horizontally (Maybe horizontal midele-mouse actions also work ???) * This might be the first time i've used Gregors fast file open in windows 32 bit. (Bases open much faster) * Break up the long book tuning menubuttons (untested) * Lots of little bug-fixes. |
