I tried to install the engine from source, but even after installing the prerequisite packages, i had some unresolved header dependency (boost 3 i think) ... so I'm not sure the Linux install instructions are complete. Maybe someone could post a statically linked binary ? Ok, laugh, I have fixed that up. Now the buttons make the widget too high (see screenshot attached) ... so i should probably have used a drop-box, but individual buttons are so satisfying :) The new code is in subversion, or just replace "board.tcl" in scid.gui with the attached version, replacing the lines between # board.tcl: part of Scid and ### End of file: board.tcl Steven On Mon, Apr 23, 2018 at 6:54 PM, Mail Delivery Subsystem < mai...@go...> wrote: > [image: Error Icon] > Message not delivered > There was a problem delivering your message to > *sci...@li...*. Sorry for the spam, but this feature may get ignored for a while unless i mention it.... In subversion, I've implemented quick CQL position searches using the Shift+button-1 board marking feature. To use it, Mark the pieces on the board you want to search for with Shift+MouseClick, then open the CQL search window. The pieces are now automatically inserted as search parameters. Attached is a small screenshot to illustrate the idea. Re the gamelist 'Country' field, i have enforced this idea. Country sorts and gamelist fields are now only shown if * the fourth last letter is a space. * the third last letter is capitalized But on unfortunately we are missing "USSR" now Steve |

Though it's not well documented, the gamelist column for 'Country' is merely the last three letters of the game's 'Site' field. This setup seems to be a defacto of sorts in PGN, though i'm not terribly knowledgable about it. Scid's Site Spellchecking tool does a reasonable job of adding these three letters to the Site. eg "Baku" >> "Baku AZE" (505) "Baltimore" >> "Baltimore, MD USA" (1) "Banja Luka" >> "Banja Luka BIH" (18) "Barcelona" >> "Barcelona ESP" (83) "Barcelona (Spain)" >> "Barcelona ESP" (3) Anyway, I have added this to doco ... but i'm wondering if we should enforce this a little in the gamelist. A simple test i can think of , if the 3rd last letter is not capitalized, don't display the country field. Another option would be - if the fourth last letter is not a space. Is 'Country' found/used anywhere else in ScidvsPC beside the gamelist. ? Steve |

Good afternoon from France, I am new on this list, but I am a fervent scidvspc user. I have a problem, not directly connected with scidvspc, but perhaps some readers had to resolve it and will be able to help me. My computer is on Windows 8.1 Enterprise, with a 64bits processor. Frequently - usually the week-end - I am disconnected when I am playing chess on Internet (on freechess.org). At first I accused the scidvspc software (Receiving a "Read error" windows containing the message : "Network error Fics will exit."). Then I tested the server with the Jin client (jin.exe). Same result : numerous network disconnection on freechess.org the week-end. At this stage I accused the freechess server. But I tested some others Telnet chess servers. Same problem the week-end. Now I conclude the problem is on my side : my computer or rather my Internet access (French Orange Livebox). Is someone able to help me ? Do I have to modify some parameters somewhere ? Cheers, Francois, |

Hi, We've made some release candidates for 4.19, so please test them. http://scidvspc.sourceforge.net/index.html#toc3 No really big new features. Hi, Lionel has been implementing the CQL (Chess Query Language) search feature some more - CQL 5.2 is now gold - and Oz has made up some windows betas. 32bit: https://sourceforge.net/projects/scidvspc/files/windows-beta/Scid%20vs%20PC-4.19-r2815.exe/download 64 bit: https://sourceforge.net/projects/scidvspc/files/windows-beta/Scid%20vs%20PC-4.19-r2815.x64.exe/download This feature is pretty heavy to use (there are a few examples in the help file), but people may also be interested in the other minor changes included (upto subversion rev 2815). There are not many of these. A new 'Ascii' chess piece set and green colour scheme :) and a 'default/autload databases' feature. We are using a new windows build system, and hopefully there's no regressions. Maybe our Windows big DB speed loading has changed ? Sorry, but i havent tested it. So thanks to Lionel, Oz and the CQL authors, who have been working with Lionel i think. Below is a changelog since 4.18.1 (though this beta still installs as 4.18) Maybe in a month or two, 4.19 will be released. cheers, Steve CHANGES Fix up the days of the months in the calender widget. Fics: Change censor button a little, and Control-Censor censors person chatting to you. Fix up window placement on milti display desktops. Input engine fixes (DGT board). Widget now resizes ok, and bitmaps display properly on OS X. Thanks to Davy De Roeck for debugging it on OS X. Destroy signal handled a little differently, and maybe a minor memory leak fix too (unrelated, in bitmaps.tcl). New search feature. General search can now match any (non-hidden) pre-game or final move comment. Export Scid Flags feature. Opening table filter operations didn't update the gamelist. (Previously stats::Refresh did a gamelist refresh). Some tree tweaks/doco updates. Mostly non-functional, except the Fast+Slow mode now doesn't break the win/lose graph. Streamline widget refresh a little Bugfix: Best games 'Reset Column titles' was broke. Re games loading at a certain position -= there is a conflict between the tree window and search results. What position do we load at ? Now we prioritize the search result, and if no search result, load ply of the tree/current position. Small associared speed bump. CQl 5.2 search feature (Search ->CQL). Thanks Lionel and CQL team. OS X has -O3 build instead of (mistakenly) no optimisation. Tweak progress bar update frequencies (base export, cql search, game copy). New Windows build system from Oz. (todo - test speed) New Ascii pieces (Thanks HGM), and Green colour scheme (replaces red). Big speed up for (bulk) Strip Comments/Variations feature. Also make the 'Stop' button work. fix: sc_game startPos segfaults if !HasNonStandardStart Clean up scripts a little, add a new script sc_filter_pgn New 'Default Databases' feature (Options->Save Bases as Default) Fix up showing the first gamelist/game in searches. Some minor gamelist fixes when emptying clipbase/closing bases. (resets clipbase to read-write, and reset title arrows) FICS: Offers Graph disabled while playing a game Extend game load key bindings to gamelist treeview widget. |

I always enter my OTB games into SvP, and often I even enter a lot of games by other players in the club. Sometimes I make errors during the process; Maybe I move the wrong piece, maybe I move it to the wrong square, I make a mouseslip, or maybe a score sheet is incorrect or just bloody hard to read so I need to make educated guesses as to what the player played. But for whatever reason, I make the wrong move in SvP, and I do not discover it until further into the game, when move 40 is not legal on the board because I made some stupid mistake on move 15. In these cases I need to out why move 40 is not legal, and backtrack until I find out where I made a mistake. So far so good. But when I figure out where I went wrong, and I correct the move, all subsequent moves are then lost. Would it be possible to have an option in SvP that allows you to replace that single move, but still keep all subsequent moves? Providing the remaining moves are still legal, of course. My current process in these cases is to export the incorrect game as PGN, open it in Notepad, correct the offending move, and then import the corrected PGN back into SCID. Or, just discard the moves and enter them all again, depending on how many moves I need to redo. -- -- Mvh/br Morten |
