Yep. Sourceforge rolled out a totally new managemenet UI. I think I've now got the permissions set right. Please validate and let me know if I need to poke it more. ---Brett. ---Brett. Hi Chris, i cant post anything either or even access a ticket. Either sourceforge screwed up, or permissions in the project need to be managed anew. Brett ? Stefan ? Erik ? Can you have a look at the sourceforge Project Administration for rails ? Thank you. Martin Am 25.08.2013 16:43, schrieb Chris Shaffer: > SourceForge seems to have changed their interface. SourceForge seems to have changed their interface. I'm logged in and looking at the bug tickets, but I can't find a button or tool to submit a new bug. Is there a permissions problem or is it a user error? -- Chris Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail. |

Startround uses a different numeration, this is not yet carried over to the main StartCompany procedure. The StartCompany_procedure for the priceslot still needs adjustments also. If you want to give it a shot, great. I have prepared a build for the BGG-Guys to use with those caveats... Can be found at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/29072620/rails-1.7.12_1880.zip As i dont have access to the release build mechanismn on sourceforge myself :) Regards, Martin P.s. in the archive of rails-devel theres a lot of nice information regarding the intended architecture by Brett, Stefan and Erik. > Martin, > > Are you working on the price slots? Martin, Are you working on the price slots? I was thinking about taking a look at them, but I wouldn't want to step on stuff you've already written. Hi Michael, thanks again, i applied the patch to 1880_specific, though i thought i had fixed the behaviour in the code already pushed. The second fix for StartCompany_1880 needs to be classified into the category : "Ouch :)". Thanks for catching it. I'm in Marc's game. Which is what pointed me in this direction. :) The group from Marc's game has played it a handful of times face to face, and we really enjoy it, but we are a bit slow (taking maybe 8-9 hours to play) and we are kind of tired of driving home as the sun rises... Marc's game is being run in Rails 1.7.12, so it doesn't have a lot of the functionality that exists in the specific_1880 branch. We've had to fake some things and keep track of stock prices that weren't being done correctly. So far we've been able to play, but there's a lot of things being done "by hand" as well. The approach I'm taking so far is to run a parallel game to Marc's from the version in the specific_1880 branch to see how much more can be done there and what the bugs/gaps are. I'm still working through the first stock round, but at least I'm to the point where the privates are sold and the players are re-ordered. It looks like there's been a lot of work already put into 1880, so it would be a shame if we can't finish it off. There are at least two groups on BoardGameGeek attempting to play 1880 using Rails to help identify areas where patches are needed. Stephen Yu is leading one at http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/970103/first-post-in-this-forum-1880-pbf-may-2013 and Marc Manger has been commenting in the thread and asking questions about the game he and some friends are playing. Stephen's group, which I am part of, is playing *very* slowly. We started in May and are still in the initial stock round. Marc's group is apparently playing with a bit more alacrity. -- Chris Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail. Patches like this work just fine. :) I'll get this applied later today. In general, we have two styles of contributions. We'll take patches like this and one of the committers will merge them, if approved. Greetings everyone! I am new to rails development, and am very interested in assisting to make 1880 a full game. I have brought over the 1880_specific branch, and would like to make a change to CompanyManager.xml in order to fix the revenue of the JO and the IG. My commit of this change failed with a permissions problem. What is my best approach to help with 1880? Am I allowed to make changes? Is there a review process? Thanks, Michael Alexander |

The effect on Rails was horrible, because some of the windows are simply not smart enough to adjust themselves to a smaller screen. In particular, when playing 18EU, Rails insisted on displaying (in the map window) the entire list of active companies, with no way to scroll them off, which meant I could only view the actual map through a "letterbox slot" LESS THAN ONE HEX TALL. And it stayed that way the whole game, until the final merger round made most of the companies go away. I suggest that any effort to make Rails playable on tablet devices start with that. |

This list has gone quiet recently, and I have a few cycles of reflection..(not many but a few) I was wondering if Rails could be used as a hot seat moderator, well obviously it can, in a mode where the players made their turns, as time permitted, over the course of a convention. Maybe in conjunction with a video projector or large display. Another thought, might be a tablet.... is there any tablet on the market that can run this. (maybe other than an MS Surface Pro) and... 18OE: I kicked in, is anyone interested in supporting it? What would it take? Dave... musing as he is trying to preserve what is left of his VB3 1830 moderator program development environment, while the hardware is being scrapped. |

That solution was in my to-do list a long time ago, but I'm afraid I have since completely forgotten about this issue. Of course, this change will only fix the tile laying messages in the game report. The tile number positions in the tile pictures will remain as these are now, except when the idea to generate these pictures dynamically will ever bear fruit. > If I remember correctly what Erik said in a previous discussion the base > rotations of tiles in Rails were chosen arbitrarily. More or less so. The initial set was defined by Marco Rocci in his tile database, based on whatever principle he had (or had not) in his mind, and I must confess that I haven't taken the trouble to achieve any degree of consistency in my later additions. IIRC, it is 1830 (v1) that has different tile number positions on two copies of the same tile. Erik. |

I could add a rotation attribute to the Tile tag in TileSet.xml which defines the game specific attributes for each tile. This would allow to change the standard rotation of each tile for each 18xx title. As it is not too difficult it is possible to add that feature to the 1.x branch. This rotation would specify the orientation relative to the base rotation of Rails. If I remember correctly what Erik said in a previous discussion the base rotations of tiles in Rails were chosen arbitrarily. However we need some volunteers to add the according values for each tile. But most likely there will be one of the 18xx moderators? The default orientation in Rails should be used in the Remaining Tiles window, so it is easy to figure it out. In addition I will upload the pdf of all Rail Tiles to the wiki. I agree with Phil, I personally don't see the benefit of accounting for every printing difference of every game. However, if that's important enough to someone to write the code and generate the tile images, then it'll be supported. I believe in letting the community drive the direction of the project based on code submissions. So, if it's something somebody feels strongly about, by all means, send in a patch. ---Brett. Given that this isn't even consistent across similar printings of the same game, I cannot see how rails could possibly keep up with having to have the tile number the same as the printed version. It's certainly not worth the added cost of having 6 different number 8 tile images stored just so that rails can cater for the differing potential positions of the tile number. I'm not sure it is worth doing anything about given the cost to benefit ratio On 7 June 2013 15:59, Schnell, Volker <vol...@ar...> wrote: > Surely i can rotate a tile, but that is not the point. > A gamemaster of a pbem game is not amused, if tile orientation is not > identic between the game and the implentation in rails. > I run a pbem-game with both. 18xx and rails with mailorder from each > player.
