Hi Miguel, Very good point. "Sunday" is American, while "Monday" is European. However, the calendar showing the month is hard-coded, and it would require some considerable efforts to re-write the timesheet calendar. That's probably not going to happen for V3.4, unless you find a solvent sponsor... :-) Or do you think you could re-write the stuff in /intranet-timesheet2/tcl/ intranet-calendar-procs.tcl? Cheers! Hi LoCo, After the release of V3.4.0.7.alpha2, I'm now going through the Bug-Tracker on SourceForge and fix these ~100 remaining bugs on the list, starting with the oldest ones. One of these bugs was this FileStorage bug. If I understand it right, problems might arise if you use non standard characters in file names (depending on the underlying OS). Or does it apply to UTF-8 encoded text files? Hi Tetsuya, Thanks for your interest. I've added you as a ]po[ Admin to the localization Server. I've also added you as a user with write permissions at www.project-open.org/documentation/. Maybe you want to subscribe to the "project-open-localization" list to stay in the loop? Setting your user's locale to Japanese at l10n.project-open.net, I've been surprised that there are already 30% of all ]po[ strings translated into Japanese. It would be great if you could assess the amount of work necessary there. It may not be much... But the most important question would be to identify "hard" l10n issues that require changes in the ]po[ code. If you could provide us with screenshots, then we might be able to include these fixes in V3.4. You told me that you might be in contact with some other Japanese companies already using ]po[. I hope that these companies could also be interested in localization in order to make sure that V3.4 would contain their translations... Cheers! Hi, Let me rephrase your question to see if I really got it: - You want to merge the translation in your "local" ]po[ with the translations in the L10n-server. - You want to give priority to the terms in the L10n- Server. In order to perform this merge I'd recommend you the following: 1. Export the "catalog" files from the L10n-server 2. Copy them to your local system 3. Import the catalog files via /acs-lang/admin/ "Import all strings" This way, all the translations from the L10n-server over- write the translations in your server. Then: 4. Export your "catalog" files and 5. extract and import your catalogs in the L10n server. Does this make sense or did I get you wrong? As an alternative, you could 1. Export all strings at L10n 2. Hello Frank, thanks for your detailed explanation. I was thinking about another thing, but I guess the bottom line is the same. My current 3.4-install was created half a year ago. I guess that the catalogue files are not coincident with the ones that we have now in the L10n-server, because new messages have been added and internationalized (new packages, new UI implementations). Now I have two choices: 1. To upload my catalogue files as they are, so that you can place them in their locations at OS-level and import them. My concern: will be the new messages from the L10n-server be deleted by this "brute force" overwriting...? 2. To download the catalogue files from the L10n-server, import them and hope my pre-existing translations won't be overwritten by the texts from the L10n server. So, right, what I want to do is merge files, but keep my local translation and add the new messages (keys) to my install (or the other way round: replace the translations in the L10n server with my translations, but without destroying the new messages, because my exported catalogue files probably won't contain all the keys). Does it sound too convoluted? I've just registered on project-open l10n server
http://l10n.project-open.net/, in order to become a translator.
Michael, I have experience with translations in .LRN (OpenACS) and
UNED, not only at a translator level but also as a programmer. I can
deal with cvs files (catalog .xml files) and so on... So, maybe I
can answer you on source forge forums ;-) as well.

I have the complete 3.4 translated, but just for the modules
I checked out last October. I'm in the process of comparing
what I have with what has to be translated now.
I wanted to ask you something now that we are talking about
this:
I wonder: if I reimport my XML export (the one from my
system) into a "head" checkout of ]PO[ (a separate install
with its own database), will the system import my
translation into the database and leave the "holes" in
English, so that when exporting again into XML I will get
the complete set of messages (a mix of messages in Spanish
and in US-English actually)?
Is this the way how it works?

This one is for the ]PO[/OpenACS gurus there: If you reimport an XML-catalogue export (one taken from my local system already localized) into the Localization server, will the system import my translation into the database and leave the "holes" in English, so that when exporting again into XML I will get the complete up-to-date set of messages (a mix of messages in Spanish - in my case - and in US-English actually)? Or will the keys for the "missing" messages be deleted? Best, Michael |

So the next step would be to transfer your existing French localization to the l10n server. In order to do that you need to perform two steps: 1. Go to /acs-lang/admin/ and click on the "Export all messages" link and 2. Tar the French "catalog" files: # su - projop $ cd packages $ find . -name '*fr_FR*xml' | xargs tar czf catalog.stoquart.fr_FR.tgz 3. Please upload the file to: http://l10n.project-open.net/intranet-filestorage/ 4. On the operating system level, I'll have to extract the included catalog files to the server. 5. In /acs-lang/admin/ I'll go to "French" and click on "Import all messages for this locale". Hi Dmitry, I've "tarred" the catalog files for English, Spanish and German. They are located in: http://l10n.project-open.net/intranet-filestorage/ They also appear in the Filestorage component at the "Home" page. You can now take the English version, unpack it at you computer and translate the contents via TagEditor. Then please pack the files (preferably in the same format and directory structure) and upload them to the filestorage of the L10n server. For extracting the contents you'll need my help (it needs to be done from the operating-system level). Cheers! Hi Leopoldo, I've created an accout for your at http://l10n.project-open.net/. You should be able to log in now. However, please coordinate yourself with Michel Menzel and check what you want to work on. Basically, we've thought to support two Spanish variants - Castilian and Latin American Spanish. So there would be two important contributions from you: - Work with Michael on Castilian Spanish. This is the "default", so es_LA will "inherit" all translations from es_ES, unless there is a specific translation in es_LA and - Start defining these (hopefully few!) translations that are really different in es_LA. Does this make - more or less - sense? Did you see the "Terminology" page in the Wiki? Maybe it would be a good idea to copy the list into the "language_es_LA" page and thinking about the terms that are different from es_ES. Cheers!
