I was just reviewing this document and have some questions/comments. Most of all: THANK YOU!! for updating this document. 1) The type numbering in the description of CHUNK_FIELD_TYPES does not correspond to the numbering in the "Record Structure" section. I assume that the numbers listed in the previous are still accurate? and the latter section should all be decremented by 1. 2) Regarding CHUNK_FIELD_DATA (2) Is this a single chunk with multiple entries for fields OR Multiple chunks with a single field data set Is there plans to expand the header of this to include the number of entries? 3) Regarding the Link type Where is the DB identified? You list only record and field. ===== Check out my WebsiteTry PayPal for making and reciving payments online from your bank account or credit card. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Trying to be a good community member, I've been attempting to test out pilot-db as new betas become available. At some point in the last couple of beta releases I now find myself in a situation where DB no longer works - at all. Each attempt to start it either crashes the palm altogether, or, if I do accidentally get into the application, it crashes the Palm Vx I use shortly after. I noticed a Hack listed as DB2 in my system, so I tried to delete that - and that crashed the Palm as well. Is there progress being made towards DB returning to being a pretty stable application? -- Never apply a Star Trek solution to a Babylon 5 problem. Larry W. I think that 2 conversions would be sufficient, but with 2 modes : conversion between a timestamp and the number of seconds since a known reference, and a conversion between a number of seconds and a duration expressed in days, hours, minutes and seconds. > When I finished using palm-db and choosing another application, the palm > always is reporting the following error > MemoryMgr.c, Line:4450, > Invalid chunk ptr > [reset] > and is performing a soft-reset after acknowlegment. > My palm is a Vx with palm OS 3.5 and I tried 3.4beta1 and 3.4beta3 with the > same effect. Hello all. I tried to test the last 1.3.0 beta (about says 0.3.4 beta 3c 17 janvier 2002). I first installed the light version. I lost the classification in categories. The categories are correct, but all databases are in the unfiled one. I can see all dbs, but when I try to open one just by taping on its name, the prog crashes with the message : Form.c, Line:1728, Object not in form. So, I tried the heavy (:-) version : This try, I lost all categories. But the dbs open correctly. (I still prefer the 1bpp with text labels :-). I can't enable the global find support. Is it du to recent problems with the global find ? "Linked" type needs 2 modifications before getting changed by a change in the referenced "Link" type. When displaying the separators (very good function, BTW), the separators disapear when I scrol up, except for the first record below the headers. I can get them back by scrolling down. I'm now sure that the structures for storing the views are overlaping the structures for storing new records and those for storing field types : when you create a new record, you sometime lose the view lists. When recreating them, you lose some field types and for instance, the prog lose the auto-increment informations, or the default values. Well, no more time to pay. BTW, Marc, do you use a memory management library or some kind of memory problems tracker ? Does it exist for the palm dev environment ? Fab. |

I think we need to focus on fixing the remaining bugs before we start adding more features. Could you add this to the feature request tracker? Then I wont forget about it as I work on the scripts for the next version. -Scott |

Hi, I'm really thrilled about the palm-db project. Meanwhile, palm-db is a very powerfull database for the palm, that beats many commercial products and the development is advancing rapidly. Appreciation. A few days ago I asked for information concerning scripts according to calculated fields. I got a complete description the same day! Many thanks to Scott Wallace. Today I like to suggest a widening of the script function. It would be great, if time or date would be caculable, i.e. time between two timestamps. Perhaps a set of four functions would be sufficient: time2int, date2int, int2time and int2date. By the way, I like to report a problem: When I finished using palm-db and choosing another application, the palm always is reporting the following error MemoryMgr.c, Line:4450, Invalid chunk ptr [reset] and is performing a soft-reset after acknowlegment. My palm is a Vx with palm OS 3.5 and I tried 3.4beta1 and 3.4beta3 with the same effect. Greetinx Joachim Fulbrecht |

Hi Marc, Work is going well on the DB Conduit. I have a question about the Note field. The Format.txt file states that the Note field is made like this: char Title[11], Uint16 Note offset, then Notebody Char[500] (at the end of the record). When using DB, it is clear that you can enter more than 11 characters in the title. Is there an official limit to the title length and the body length?? -nick |

Thanks to resolve the trouble yourself. It's true that the vfs plugin doesn't work on device which doesn't support the VFS. I already correct that but i didn't build the plugin. Thanks a lot. Hi! I'm using DB to keep some kind of "logfiles" for various purposes (being able to sort by various columns is great!). For each year, I want these "logfiles" to be separate. So, at the end of the year I start a new "logfile" by copying the structure of the old one. Unfortunately, the views (in detail: the widths of the fields) are not copied - I have to define them anew in the new database. Is there a way to copy the structure of the database PLUS the widths of the fields in the views? Best Regards / Mit freundlichem Gruss Martin Schweikert -- F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. In the chooser (when you select the database to open) hit the selected database icon and select "duplicate". A box ask you the new name and the format of your database.
