Hi Marc! I haven't tried so far to create a database with the new version of my actual device, and after Steve's trouble I didn't really want to try on my Palm IIIc (I'm using DB almost exlusively to look up data that is maintained on the PC and converted to DB files using the DB tools). I did, however try it on the emulator. I couldn't recreate the problem there but I'm not sure if this really means much. I did encounter two problems on the emulator: 1) The old information plugin didn't work anymore (a new one isn't provided in the package). That's not really a bug, though, since the new version probably isn't meant to work with old plugin builds. And while we're at it, I have a small feature request: I'd like to be able to query the number of rows in the database as well as the number of rows in a filtered selection. 2) Somewhere in the process of trying out the new version on the emulator, my database was miraculously renamed to "ÿÿÿ" (Three 'y' characters with umlaut-dots on top, in case the mail gets mangled in some way). I'm not sure anymore what exactly I did, and I couldn't recreate this easily, but I will try again. I'd have to agree with this, the grayscale is extremely hard to read on a palm IIIxe. Carson Carson R. Marc, I just in stalled 0.3.4betas and I get a fatal error and have to do a reset when I do a global search. Reinstalling 0.3.4alphas, cleared up the problem. I seem to remember having this problem in one of the earlier alphas? Thanks, Carson Carson R. Hi, there are some devices out there, which are able to display in grayscale mode but using this is a pain, cause optimal contrast settings is different for b/w and grayscale and for any "grayscaled" application. Furthermore batteries are getting empty quite faster using grayscale. I would appreciate it very much, if there could be a option like "forced black and white" in db to ignore the grayscale capabilities of the OS. Thank you very much! keep hacking the right site of life ! :-) Meino |

For this number you decided, you call db2 for the previous version of database and db3 for the last one. To keep the coherence with db3 driver i give the name 1.3.x . I think it's the better for the future of db we don't know if we will have to build a db4 driver. Ok i look that perhaps it's the same trouble with the stop application. Thank you, and sorry for the trouble but it's a beta version and i hadn't this trouble on my device (i created databases with this version). I think there is some memory trouble with some devices. I think it's not general for every people. This trouble is my priority. Salut, Marc. > Ouch. Had to do a hard reset to recover. I was creating a file and > tried to save it. Hi! I just downloaded the new DB version and was sooooo delighted to see the "Lookup" function (writing the first letter to jump to the first matching record) implemented. I craved for that function every time I stood in a CD store and tried to look up in my database if I alrady had a specific CD (one gets old and starts to forget things... ;-) Marc, I could kiss you for that!!! (Although I doubt that you'd want that ;-) I found one bug though (with the color version): when I use a filter, the background color of each entry seems to stick with it and doesn't alternate from green to white with every line. This wasn't the case with 0.3.3. Thanks again for a great program! Cheers, Oliver -- Oliver Goetz, mailto:oli...@we... Ouch. Had to do a hard reset to recover. I was creating a file and tried to save it. The fatal exception, reset dialog came up and the palm froze. Tapping the palm icons had no effect. So, I used the soft reset option by sticking the stylus pen into the reset hole on the back. The palm responded by continually flashing the initial palm screen off and on. Hitting the power button had no effect. Finally did a hard reset. This was not the first database I created while in 1.3.0, and I can't think of anything different that I did. The database was a simple one with only a few string fields. |

I tired sorting a JFile database, and I got the same fatal alert and reset that I got using a mobiledb database. So I thought I would try working around the problem by creating a csv file from a mobiledb database and then using the csv2pdb.exe to make it in DB format. I just can't seem to get this tool to work. I'm sure I must be typing something wrong. I tried following the posted manual but still no luck. Can someone explain to me how to use the csv2pdb step by step and in language that anyone would understand. Thanks. |

I am using DB 0.3.3s (the Sony version) on a Palm IIIc with OS 3.5.3. I sync with a Mac onto Palm Desktop 2.6.3 (latest for the Mac). I am not able to open databases that have been restored from Backup. This is what I did. Created a new DB (I just filled it with 2 fields and 2 rows for testing) with backup bit set. Hotsync. Saw that the DB was backed up. Deleted the DB on the Palm using the drop down "Delete" function on the Chooser screen. Went to desktop computer, and placed the backup DB on to the install. Hotsynced again. Went to the DB application on the Palm. Tapped the Test DB. A dialog box "Unable to open database" popped up. I couldn't do anything with the DB. When I tried to rename it, it gave me a fatal error (no error message) requiring a soft reset. Louis __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send FREE video emails in Yahoo! I installed DB 1.3.0 (0.3.4 beta 1) on a Palm IIIx, OS v 3.3. Tapping on the Palm Home key to exit DB results in a Fatal Exception. This occurs no matter where in DB I exit and it is consistent. So far, I have not seen any loss of data as a result. |

Some databases (for instance, a sales > based database) intrinsically are updated on both sides. Of course, I only spoke about my needs :-) But the scenario you evoke is kind of dangerous. There is absolutly no way to prevent multiple accesses on the same real record which is logically duplicated through all the pdas. I would prefer to have the pdas store a readonly database, and news or modifications stored in another database on the pdas. Then I should use a robust program on a central machine to include with a lot of controls the different modifs when the pdas come back home. The idea should be to record events in the pda, rather than pure modifications of the copie of the database the pda has in. But the problem is rather tricky. Fab. |

I've just found DB, and have a questions. Please forgive me if they have been convered before. 1) What is the maximum number of records that can be stored in a dB? 2) Is it possible to automatically prefix all databases with something like DB_, similar to the way ThinkDB and Handyshopper does it? This way, if I have several files of the same name by different apps, I can distinguish between them on the computer. 3) Is it possible to add the Options/Database Prefs to the Info dialog box in the chooser screen? 4) I strongly second the sort associated with the view feature request that is logged on the website. 5) The manual states that the note field can hold 500 characters. I believe that this is incorrect. 6) Is there someway to automatically sort a list other than entry order? What happens if I wanted to resort the list by deleting and reentering. Would it cause a problem with the existing entries? I guess my question is how is the list stored in the database, by list index, or by actual list text? 7) I have loaded the color version. Is there someway to change the background color of the green bars? 8) Is it possible to set Read/Write flag on a per DB basis, rather than on a global basis? There are some DBs that I do not want to modify easily, while others I want to be able to change easily everytime I look at a record.
