This bug also exists in the new (Beta5) version. It happens almost every time I quit, and the first time I start db after installing it together with the Mobile-DB Plug-IOn I cannot reproduce it every time, but I think it happens when the Mobile-DB Plug-In is installed. Does the Mobile-DB Plugin support the new Mobile-DB Formats? P.S. I am using a Palm that a friend has lent me for 2 Months. I'll have to return it soon! Take a look at the script.txt document, it should explain everything. http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/pilot-db/db/docs/ The short answer is: (* %0 %1) multiplies field 0 and field 1 together On Wed, 6 Feb 2002 DK...@aj... wrote: > I have just started Pilot DB and fail when I degfine a field as > "calculated". > > The pop up screen requires a script. > > What language or format is this looking for?? > > I simply want to multiply two other fields together > > Regards, > David Keele > Consulting Director > AJILON Australia > 0419 330 862 > > > _______________________________________________ > Pilot-db-list mailing list > Pil...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/pilot-db-list > -- |

I would like to be able to convert data from the DB database on my Palm to a text file on my desktop. I downloaded the Dbtools_0_3_2.zip file, but having unloaded it cannot work out how to install it and would really appreciate some help (I'm not too computer literate, so the simpler the better). |

Hi! I just noticed that the db-tools executables csv2pdb.exe and pdb2csv.exe considerably grew in size between beta 3 and beta 5 of the db 0.3.4 package (from around 480KB to 5.5MB). It seems that either they now have been built as debug versions or that much too much unneeded libraries are now linked into them. Personally this doesn't bother me much, I just wondered if this was on purpose... Cheers, Oliver -- Oliver Goetz, mailto:oli...@we... If the script.txt file did not get included with your download of pilot-db, get a copy from the sourceforge repository: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/pilot-db/db/docs/ this will tell you just about everything you might want to know about scripts. But the short answer to your question is: say field 0 and 1 are numbers (e.g. Integer, floats, boolean) then the script for field 2 would be: (- %1 %0) note that fields are zero indexed when they are referenced in the script with the '%' symbol. -Scott > Hi! > > How do I write a script for the "calculated" feature of DB? You can use the DbgPrintF() subroutine to pop up messsage boxes. Also, if you run DB inside of the PalmOS Emulator, you can connect the gdb debugger to the emulator and stop in the middle of the code. |

Running both 0.33 & 0.34 on my Clie PEG-S300, I can reproducibly crash DB doing this: Install DB & the TLD database Open the TLD database Find, search for "to" in the TLD field. You'll get the "Working" pop-up, which never goes away in 0.33; in 0.34, you get the pop-up and a few seconds later, the screen becomes jumbled bits of black and white. That never goes away. I lack the knowledge to debug further, but if someone'll tell me how to put a debugger on the device or get DB to tell me where it's dying, I'd be happy to. [I -do- know C, just don't know Palm development] [And I did submit a bug report to the tracker] Thanks! --John |

Similarly, I would find it helpful to be able to either: 1. Add a filter to a default view 2. Name filters in the existing filter list, rather than the default names of Filter 1, Filter 2... And for my newbie question: How do I filter on a boolean field? Stumbling in the dark I tried searching on text 1/0, True/False, YES/NO but I'm still in the dark :-) |

IT would be nice to be able to mark a default view! I have a couple databases with about 5 views each and everytime I exit an added recode I am back at "All Fields" view and must switch each time because I can not edit the database properly in that view but must use a custom view with 4 fields per record on screen. It should be separate from default editing view since I tend to edit ALL records or most but only want 4 in my default screen view. Yeshiah |

>Palm seems to standardize on /PALM/Launcher for Palm-specific files. Other >directories are only used for images and audio and not a Palm-specific >database like DB. The Web site that described it was: Right link, wrong conclusion. Everything in the /PALM directory is palm related. The images and audio directories are outside the /PALM directory off the root. IE: /DCIM for images /AUDIO for audio Ideally, /PALM/Launcher is better used only for launchable applications which are to show up and be launched in a VFS enabled launcher. Fortunately, many of the early apps that but their data in /PALM/Launcher as well have, in recent version, moved to their own directory. The proper place Pilot-DB files would NOT be /PALM/Pilot-DB, but rather /PALM/Programs/Pilot-DB I have no issue with allowing a user definable directory (as long as it's in /PALM/Programs/), though it may well add needless complication. The problem with allowing multiple simultaneous directories though is that the PalmOS/VFS routines are not fast enough to make this manageable. Many of the early apps making use of VFS, and some lame current examples, simply scan the entire card looking for their content. Anyone with a sizable card, or multiple cards on a HandEra 330 quickly sees the futility of that approach when the app takes 5-20 minutes sitting at a "Scanning..." dialog. On OS5 hardware the file system will be a whole new deal and we'll have the horesepower to allow less restrictive File/Directory selection options. I've used many, many VFS apps, and thus far the nearly perfect implementation of Categories, Card Selection, and VFS use is WordSmith's. And it wouldn't do Pilot-DB any harm to consider a similiar motif. You choose wether you're looking at RAM based files or Card based files via the category chooser in the upper left (where RAM, CF, and SD are also selectable in the category list). Also moving files from RAM to a card (and back) is done via the category selector tool. This way you don't need to use a third party File Management tool to make the moves. Regards, Craig Bowers |

Or even have Lawrence> multiple directories for the "database junkies" As a lurker here and happy DB user I'd much prefer the latter. It seems ... odd ... to use fixed directories. Also a plea from a Visor user. I have an original Visor Deluxe with a MemPlug (www.memplug.com) SmartMedia adapter. It includes VFS support that is presently in beta but works quite well. The problem I'm running into is that I'm on PalmOS 3.1 (in ROM on Visors, not upgradeable). A lot of software that supports VFS seems to require PalmOS 3.5 or even later. Please stick with PalmOS 3.1 compatibility, other than the VFS calls of course. --Hal |
