FYI, There is a Database link for "HTML Attribute Reference" (at http://pilot-db.sourceforge.net/) does not work. I was really looking forward to download it. Could you fix so I can download it? That is, you should be able to do: Field 0 = Integer Field 1 = Float Field 2 = Calculated '(+ %0 %1)' without any trouble. However, if you change the field types after you have defined the script, then you may need to refresh the scripts (i.e. retype them in). This could cause a problem if you had a script as above but both fields were initially integers, and then you changed one to a float without updating the script. However, if you were to go the other way (one field is a float, that then changes to an integer) you shouldn't have to refresh the script (in theory). -Scott I think I should add something to the documentation about this ;) The basic rule is that if you change the database design (i.e. the field types or their relative order, etc) you should always re-enter your scripts to make sure that they are appropriate for the new database design. |

I would like the thank Scott for helping me with my grade book database that I have created. For those who followed the thread a month ago here is the solution. Scott had given me a script that was just like the ones that I had tried, so I knew that something else had to be wrong. I found out that you must not be able to mix the field types when using a calculated field. I had a integer field and a float field that I was carrying calculations on at the same time. I switched everything to integer and it worked great. Feature Request: I have found so many uses for DB that the databases are growing. It keeps my grades, and my mileage for business reporting, and it also keeps my case notes too. It would be nice to have different font options for each database. I don't know if the Palm OS allows this. I would love to use the smallest font for the mileage and grades so I can see more in the list view. In the case notes it would be nice to use a bigger font while I'm typing in the information. Just a thought, but I don't know if it can be done. Note Field Bug: I have also found that when typing into a note field there is a bug. If you try to add a return the insertion point doesn't move to the front of the next line down until you begin typing text. This doesn't hurt the out come, but sometimes when using my portable keyboard I don't know if I pressed the return key because I don't see the insertion point move down to the next line. I use a Visor Edge with a Stowaway Keyboard, so it my be a unique bug with my hardware. Thanks for the help and a fun program to use. mowestusa __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus Powerful. Affordable. It would be great if in a view, there was a way to automatically set the column widths to the max needed for each column. The default width global option often causes wasted or insufficient space. I know I can manually set the widths in a view, but for my desired effect, I have to consider altering these values after every insert. |

Hi, I have just started using Pilot-DB and have encountered a problem. I am using a very early Palm Pilot upgraded to 2MB and OS3.3 and it has about 1.1MB RAM free. When I attempt to transfer a database to the Pilot from my PC I get the error: Protocol Error: Invalid parameter to local function (4017) and the database is not transferred. The database has been created using csv2pdb and is just over 400KB in size. Hi all and Thomas. Just a detail : the scripts have CR+LF at the end of lines. So to use them on unix you have to remove the CR by using the fromdos program or with this command lines : cat <the-script> | tr -d '\015' > tmp.tmp mv tmp.tmp <the-script> The problem affects configure, config.sub, config.guess and create some strange errors. Another problem is the missing of Makefile.in in the gui/d directory. Fab. |

Look in the dbtools-0_3_5.zip in the metafiles subdir, there is a file name fr.ifo. It contains some sample format commands such as date. You can modify this file to fit your needs and then use it like this: pdb2csv -i fr.ifo .... > the second thing i can't understand is the new "merge tool", it isn't > described in the file manual.txt or in the french documentation. the merge mode is briefly described in the command line help only (type "csv2pdb" with no options). When you convert from csv to pdb, instead of creating a new pdb file from scratch, the merge mode opens the pdb file, keeps the database structure from the pdb file and adds records to the pdb depending on the option. "Rebuild" erases all records from the pdb and adds all records from the csv. Thomas |
