Dear all, Has somebody already succeeded in computing the difference from to date fields in order to calculate a time difference ? I always have a bad argument error message. Is it possible to use current date in scripts ? Thanks for your help. JB |

Hi, There were a few mistakes in the csv-file. 1) the comments had to be removed (beginning and end of the file) 2) the first line with headings had to be removed. The headings are defined in the ifo file. Even if you wanted it as the first line, it had a comma to much. 3) I changed the local and GMT format to "time" in the ifo-file 4) I changed the frequency format to "float": This makes it easier to sort. Attaced are the changed thu.ifo, thu.scv files and the csv2pdb_thu.bat file as well as the created thu.pdb-file as a zip-file. copy these to the directory in which the csv2pdb.exe file is and doubleclick on the bat file: it will generate the thu.pdb file! Hans -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: pil...@li... [mailto:pil...@li...]Im Auftrag von William P Tracy Gesendet: Montag, 9. Dezember 2002 16:00 An: pil...@li... Cc: William P Tracy Betreff: [pilot-db-list] csv2pdb windows I've seen you product, on my Visor, after the DB was created on Linux. I like it!! I own a Windows machine and I'm having trouble creating a DB for my Visor, using csv2pdb.exe. I would also like to use the html creator version, but can't make it work either. I've attached the info, and csv files that I am using. Can you help me make this work? The command line that I'm using is: csv2pdb -i dailybbcifo.txt thu.csv thu.pdb it complains about title and wrong fields. Thanks, Pat |

Not that these two examples make it a standard, but both Data Viz's Docs2Go= and Plucker use a very similar interface. They both have icons beside the= title that you tap to get a list of options for that database. Secondly, I have an older version of db, but the Help on the main database = page is empty. If this is still the case with the in the newest release I = would suggest that instructions for manipulating databases be added there. Larry >>> Hans Ajiet Holtkamp <aji...@t-...> 11/27/02 06:07PM >>> My second suggestion is to consider why these questions are asked so often. I have pondered over this for quite a while and have come to the conclusion that this must be due to a non-standard user-interface - I hope the software developers will not undestand this as a criticism - it does not mean that the one used at the moment is a bad one - it is just that it does not seem to be a standard, although it is very nice and elegant. In my opinion there are two possiblities - either we keep this non-standard (and elegant and nice) user interface and take into account that we will keep getting such inquiries and keep getting upset about it since the no. of users keep increasing, or else we should change the user interface to be more 'intuitive'. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------= ---------------- Note: Please update your email address for this user to reflect the=20 new MeadWestvaco Corporation. I've started using Pilot-DB and like it. My biggest problem right now is the LIST field type when importing from a .csv (csv2pdb). Is there anyway to get the list to be generated from the items in the .csv file? If this is not a feature, what is the chance that the source code will stable (meaning not changing) long enough for me to take a stab at this featue and send it back? __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hi, I have a few more questions re pdbtools. I created the foll ifo file: title "Demo" field "String" string "Str" field "OK" boolean field "Int." integer "45" field "Float" float "1.2345" field "Date" date "now" field "Time" time "now" field "Note" note field "Calc" calculated "(+ %2 %3)" view "special" "String" 45 "OK" 15 "Int." 20 "Float" 25 "Date" 30 "Time" 25 "Note" 60 "Calc" 60 option backup true extended on format time "%H:%M" format date "%d.%m.%Y" with the foll txt file "Teststring1","true","3","1.2345","31.01.1997","21:00","Test\nline1\nline2", "" "Teststring2","false","5","2.34568","24.01.1999","21:01","Note2\nlinie1\nlin ie2","" 1) now field "Calc" calculated "(+ %2 %3)" was just a guess and it did not work. how is the script passed on? 2) re the note "Test\nline1\nline2" can the ifo file define that the first line is the heading? i.e. is something like this possible: field "Note" note "true" whereby "true" would mean use first line as heading? 3) On my palm, I edited the script to read (+ %2 %3 ) which worked. when I reconvert the pdb file to csv, using pdb2csv -e demo.pdb out.txt out.ifo I get the foll txt file: "Teststring1",true,3,1.2345,01/31/1997,21:00,"Test\nline1\nline2","4.2345N/A " This is not the extended csv format in spite of the pdb2csv -e. In my opinion each column shoud be within "". Am I correct in inferring that this is an bug? 5) why is value of the calc. field transfered? In my opinion only the script should be transfered to the ifo file something like field "Calc" calculated "(+ %2 %3)" and the txt file should read "Teststring1",true,3,1.2345,01/31/1997,21:00,"Test\nline1\nline2","" i.e. the last field should be empty. 6) In the output text "4.2345N/A",what does N/A stand for 7) The date format is reconverted to "%m/%d/%Y" althouth I have "%d.%m.%Y" on my palm and in my original ifo file Is this a bug? If you can read French, there is an html doc in the archive. > > ********** > Question 2 > ********** > > Are other types supported too, such as date? > all types are supported excepted link and linked. Calculated fields are partially supported: the scripts are lost in the pdb->csv process, but if you do csv->pdb using the merge mode you can retreive the scripts from the original pdb file. Note fields are supported but you must use the extended CSV mode if the note contains some carriage return characters. > ********** > Question 4 > ********** > > the option > option systemPWD on > does not have any effect! For instance, in your in.ifo file, the only useful lines are: > format date %d/%m/%Y > extended on > separator , all other lines are ignored > ********** > Question 5 > ********** > > Is there a reason for not mentioning time separately? you can use format time... exactly as you use format date... Actually, what you answered my question because you say this can be done (sort the items in the pop-up menu for a list field). Do you know if it possible to add easily in the future this option? Objet: Re: [pilot-db-list] sort a list If you mean sort the items in the pop-up menu for a list field, then I don't think this can be done. If you mean sort the records according to some column's data, this easiest way is to tap on the column header (i.e. the title of the column) and then tap the sort ascending or descending. I'm not sure if this answers your question... -Scott > Hi all, > > One time I input all item in a list inside a database, I dont know how > do I sort list before opening of this latest? Hi, I have a few questions re. the new pdbtools: ********** Question 1 ********** In the manual it says: quote: The items in capitals are parameters which you should replace with actual values. Replace NAME with the name of the field. The TYPE of the field should be "string", "boolean", or "integer" if the type of the field is a string, checkbox (true/false), or a number respectively. The ARGUMENT parameter is used to pass informations about the field: string: ARGUMENT = default value (string) integer: ARGUMENT = default value (integer) float: ARGUMENT = default value (float) unquote: Well, in the first part of the explanation, float is missing, and float works, so it should read The items in capitals are parameters which you should replace with actual values. Replace NAME with the name of the field. The TYPE of the field should be "string", "boolean", "integer" or "float" if the type of the field is a string, checkbox (true/false), a whole number or a floating-point number respectively. The ARGUMENT parameter is used to pass informations about the field: string: ARGUMENT = default value (string) checkbox: ARGUMENT = default value (boolean) integer: ARGUMENT = default value (integer) float: ARGUMENT = default value (float) I would also add that the float must be entered with a "." and not a "," if that is correct. ********** Question 2 ********** Are other types supported too, such as date? ********** Question 3 ********** I have created file called in.ifo: title "Demonstration" field "String" string "Str" field "Check" boolean "-1" field "Int." Integer "45" field "Float" float "1.2345" view "special" "String" 60 "Check" 20 "Int." 25 "Float" 55 format date %d/%m/%Y extended on separator , option backup on option inROM off option copy-prevention off option systemPWD on option read-only off and a text file called in.txt: "Teststring1","-1", "12","1.233" "Teststring2","0", "24","2.344" what is the difference between option inROM off and option read-only off? ********** Question 4 ********** the option option systemPWD on does not have any effect! Why is this? I created a general csv2pdb.bat file with the foll line in it: csv2pdb -i in.ifo in.txt out.pdb whereby the -i stands for "Read the info FILE for the metadata" I renamed the created file to in.pdb I created a pdb2csv.bat file with the line pdb2csv -e in.pdb out.txt out.ifo and executed the pdb2csv.bat file. The created out.ifo file reads: title "Demonstration" field "String" string "Str" field "Check" boolean field "Int." integer "45/0" field "Float" float "1.2345" view "special" "String" 60 "Check" 20 "Int." 25 "Float" 55 option backup true extended on format time "%H:%M" format date "%m/%d/%Y" csvfile "out.txt" This shows that time can be formated separately. This is not mentioned in the manual. ********** Question 5 ********** Is there a reason for not mentioning time separately? ********** Question 6 ********** what does the default value "45/0" mean? what does "/0" stand for. I had not defined it in the original ifo file! You will find these files in the attachment. It might be a good idea to add these bat files and the example files to the distributed version since it is easier to edit an existing file for someone new to command-line based programs than to make one from scratch! Please comment! Thanks, Hans |

I believe that the concatenate operator is included in the 1.1beta. I will make sure. Currently, this version is available only as a snapshot. I've been doing some debugging on it, and hope to release a real beta version in the next week or two. -Scott On Mon, 2 Dec 2002, Art Sherwood wrote: > Is there (or will there be) any support for a concatenation operation > (combine 2 or more strings) in the script engine? Is there (or will there be) any support for a concatenation operation (combine 2 or more strings) in the script engine? I can't seem to find one documented. Perhaps something like (& [a] .. [n])? Just think it would be useful. Thanks, Art Sherwood art...@qu... |

(In my attempts to work around by using Jfile or MobileDB format databases, I found that I lost all the really useful field types.) Installing the application itself is no problem, but it's of limited use if I lose all my databases (& have to recreate from scratch) next time my Palm Pilot goes kablooey. Anne |
