It depends of the version for some of them you can save the categories. Then i prefer to delete the file. Il faut técharger DB-Tools (dispo sur le site web de pilot-db) qui contient les programmes pdb2csv et csv2pdb, permettant de convertir une base pilot-db vers un format utilisable et vis versa. Hi, Is there a limit on the number of cells that can be used in a calculation script? I keep getting an error "bad arguments for overflow". Is there any way around this? Thanks! Hi, I have a handful of Pilot-DB databases and I'd really like to access them directly rather than going through the Pilot-DB database list. If I set the launchable bit for these files, I notice that I can do this. I realize this might be a silly questions, but is this an OK thing to do? I just wasn't sure if I would be messing anything up by doing this. Thanks for such an awesome app! I can offer a couple of workarounds for getting the information you want. 1. Run a sort on the database, sorting by "seen" then by "type".... this will put all the unseen books together, followed by the unseen films, then the unseen websites, with the seen items similarly organized toward the bottom of the display. 2. Filter for the "type" you want, then run a sort on the results to pop the unseen ones to the top of the list. It would be convenient if databases kept their categories after an upgrade to a new version of Pilot-DB. I gather that all of the category info (and other database metadata) is kept in the DBDatabases file. Can this file be preserved during an upgrade or is it version-specific? Thanks, Michael -- Michael Graham ma...@th... |

I'm just playing around with the filter feature - very powerful feature! It would be nice to be able to apply more than one filter at a time. Maybe have an 'AND' mode for filters, where each filter you select is applied in addition to the previous ones. This continues until you select 'No Filter'. This would be a great and easy way of narrowing the record set. For instance, I'm building a 'recommendations' database, where I track films, books, and websites that friends suggest to me. There's a 'type' field (i.e. film/book/website) and a boolean 'seen' field. If I want to see a list of all unseen movies, currently I have to create a filter script for that purpose: (and(%0 seq Movies)(eq(int %1)0)) Then I have to make similar scripts for 'unseen books', 'unseen websites', etc. Note also that this script (with spaces removed) is exactly equal to the maximum script length limit for filter scripts, so I'll have trouble when it comes to 'websites'. Is the beta version on sourceforge's download page the latest "official" release, or has this project moved somewhere else? That "1.1beta2" has been up since March, yet I still see people posting messages about new features being added. Can someone enlighten me about the status of this project? I am confused. |

Wednesday, September 17, 2003, 12:24 Dear People, I have the latest version of Pilot-DB on my m105, and I'm finding three problems: 1. the GCD (Get Current Date) function returns the year of 1999 instead of 2003. Day and month are correct, though. 2. When entering longer expressions to evaluate, often Pilot-DB complains and then truncates part of the expression. Sometimes even on shorter ones it complains, even though the expression is correct. When truncated, the whole expression is displayed, but as soon as I try to tap/select some of it, the truncated part disappears. For example, the following expression had to be divided in two fields for it to work: (? (le %1 60) 57.4 ( + 57.4 ( * 0.69 ( - 60 %1 )))) 3. After editing a certain expression, the following message poped-up: "Debug - You've got the pre-alpha scripts, please re-enter them". Does that mean I have a Beta version of the scripts? Where can I get the Alpha ones? Sincerely, Michael A. Lees mic...@ma... |

Hi, I'm new to the list and I'm starting to like the DB a lot though I'm not able to get Hi res on the display. I have Sony Clie SJ30 and the version of the DB 1.1.0B1. I checked the "Enable High Resolution" in options/Global Preferences/Display and nothing happened Any ideas what I should do? Thanks Jaroslav |

Search on a value of 1 or 0 in the boolean field. Or via script, in the search field or filter use: (eq (int %[field number]) 1) for all checked boxes (eq (int %[field number]) 0) for all un-checked boxes Notes: Replace [field number] with the boolean field you're searching on. This script simply means, show all records for which the field specified (cast as an integer) are EQual to 1 or 0. > Also, when editing text numeric fields, it would be nice to be able to do > addition and subtraction. In the manual, the scripting is quite powerful. http://pilot-db.sourceforge.net/doc.htm Specifically I'd suggest the sections: Calculated Fields: http://pilot-db.sourceforge.net/doc/en/ch04s03.html#id2765141 Scripts: http://pilot-db.sourceforge.net/doc/en/ch09.html For your example I'd use one record for each "sighting" and use an inter-record sort and script to tally the totals for each bird type. Inter-record script example: http://pilot-db.sourceforge.net/doc/en/ch09s04.html As an alternative, one could also use a pop-up calculator. For example I use the DA "CalCal" http://www.bea.hi-ho.ne.jp/kish/palm/palmware.html And the DA launcher "DA Launcher 5.0b6" http://www.simple-palm.com ...on my OS5 device. You can bring it up with out exiting the DB record you're working in, and tap on the calculated result to copy it to the clipboard, then paste it into the DB field you're working with. from the file area a pilot-db.sourceforge.net and review the scripting section. |

Pilot-DB is really terrific. There are a couple of things that I'd like to do. I'd like to be able to filter on boolean fields. For example, I'd like to show all records where a boolean field is checked or alternatively not checked. Also, when editing text numeric fields, it would be nice to be able to do addition and subtraction. For example, suppose that the curent value of a field is 47 and I want to at 32 to it to get 79 as the field value. It would be nice to be able to append +32= and have the value 79 be calculated. This feature would be really useful when using pilot-db to keep track of numbers of birds seen while bird watching. One might see 325 starlings and then later see 180. As it is now, I do the addition in my head, scratch out the 325 and put the new sum. It would be nice to just record the addition and have it be so. Thanks, Dick Repasky |
