Re: various versions, I think it is a good idea to get the opinions of the users and to then concentrate on one version. Personally, I would prefer the Mobile_DB version, since there is a desktop tool (that is free of charge till now) to make databases (It would be great if we could get someone to make such a tool for DB!). I would only prefer the iconic version if the icons have a quick access text that appears after say 2 seconds explaining what they do or, to save memory, if the icons explanation is listed in the help dialog. I, for example, do not understand the use of all the icons in the record edit mode (although I made some of the icons!). I still have the bug that if the string field called 'note' in the SI_Units.PDB file that I made (available at the homepage) is converted from string to note format and a certain (not all) field is edited, I get a 'fatal exception'error. This could have to do with the length of the text in the field. But the MOST IMPORTANT point that I would like to make here is that Pilot-DB is a FANTASTIC program and that I would especially like to thank Tom Dyas and Marc Chalain for their efforts and also for their exceptional feedback to our queries and critisism!!!! Thanks, Hans. mit vielen Grüßen aus Brüggen-Bracht aji...@t-... |

Yes, i corrected all bugs that you report to me, and more (paticularly in readonly mode). You can find version in french and english (if you find mistakes in my english, please send me an e-mail). you can find: in db-0_3_2.zip db-en.prc: english, with text buttons and no color.=03 db-fr.prc: french, with text buttons and no color. db-en-color.prc: english, with text buttons and colors. db-en-mobiledb.prc: english, with text buttons, colors and MobileDB support. db-fr-color.prc: french, with text buttons and colors. in db-0_3_2iconic.zip db-en.prc: english, with icons and no color.=03 db-fr.prc: french, with icons and no color. db-en-color.prc: english, with icons and colors. db-en-mobiledb.prc: english, with icons, colors and MobileDB support. db-fr-color.prc: french, with icons and colors. in db-0_3_2.tar.gz: the sources with autoconf configuration. to build use: ./configure; make to know configuration options, use: ./configure --help Why many differents versions?: I want that DB is for the users. Some of them are interested by the performance and the size which are not compatible with the icons and the colors, others have new devices, very fats, with a lot of memory and prefer the design. In the future, i will give the preference for one version, but keep the possibility to build differents versions. My choice will be your choice, send me your point of vue. color feature: it's for PalmOS 3.5 device with gray scale or color screen. In the list view one line on two are colored to keep your line when you go on the right of the table. this feature ask a lot of memory, and on PlamOS 3.5 the go down/up in the list view is slower. icons feature: the buttons at the window's bottom are icons. With them i can give more informations and quick access. But they ask more memory (particularly in color), and you should know how to interpret the icons. MobileDB feature: a lot of you use MobileDB to create your database on the desktop and after to convert it on DB. a plugin exist to give the MobileDB support, but a plugin ask more memory that a internal building. You can find also the first version of the documantation of Mike Ressler, in HTML format. Thanks for you patience, Salut, Marc. PS: the german and the portugese versions will come quickly. __________________________________________________________ Faites un v=9Cu et puis Voila ! www.voila.fr Pendant tout l'=E9t=E9, gagnez une Ford Ka sur Voila Gratter ! http://cybergrattage.voila.fr/voila |

Well it did work. I have finally managed to transfer the files to http://pilot-db.sourceforge.net/ which will be the official HomePage from now. The problem was that I had called the start file index.htm and there was an existing index.html, which has preference over index.htm. My private homepage will be linked this page (soon) for a short period of time, after which I might delete it completely. Since a few people have been asking why the display is so small, here is why: The standard in WebSite display is to make sure that the display is correct while using a resolution of 600x800. So I have tried to make sure that the display is identical in all browsers at this resolution. It is possible to make it fit on every resoltution using %size instead of pixel. Unfortunately this results in Netscape and IE displaying the files differently. The only real way (I know) to get around it is to checkt the resolution of the user's computer and then change the file opened depending on that (e.g. using java script). Now this is very much more work, not only in design but also in maintainance. Maybe I will look into it in the near future. However, by right-clicking on the buttons you can always open the links in a new frame, which will then be full size (sorry but the fonts will still be 10 or 11 Pts, difficult to read in very high resolutions). Long Live DB! |

I just tried to upload the web site using SCP (with which I am absolutely not familiar - I did it the first time in my life!) and something was transferred somewhere, but I dont know what and where! I used Putty (PSCP) and entered the foll command: pscp [web site files directory on my computer]*.* [my login name]@shell.sourceforge.net:/home/groups/p/pi/pilot-db/htdocs I was asked for my password, which I entered, and received the message, something like: could not chdir home/groups/h/ho/holtkamp after which all files were transfered somewhere! I hope I did not do anything wrong! Can anyone tell me what happened and where the files landed!! Thanks, Hans |

> can some body try this versions, please?? > specialy the color version. I can't test the color version, but the b&w. I don't like the icons but I must admit the drawings are cute. Select the "find" icon. Enter a filter string. Select find. You get the filtered records. Ok. Select the "new" icon. Get back with the little round arrow (I did that to discover what was the icon about :-) The "all" icon isn't there anymore. But the filter is still active. Shame :-) You have to quit the database and get in back to get all the records back. No time to go further tonight :-) Fab. |

OK, i corrected the bugs: - Fatal error when exiting from a DB2 database. - lost records after change the DB structure with the filter setting (find) - return from the edit mode to the list display "find" button when it should be "All" button. The CVS tree is updated and the 0.3.2 package. I'm sorry for the 0.3.2-iconic but i want build with the news icons and you should wait one week. for the 0.3.2 i close the developpement, it will be for the next version. For your databases i'm intersting, i don't know if i build a link in the pilot-db.sourceforge.net page or add a package in the download page. Every body who have interested database can send a mail in the list with: type of database( db2, db3, MobileDB, JFile3) name description and URL. for me i have one database: db3, bandes d=E9ssin=E9es, list of french "BD" (comics in english but very differents of US comics), no URL i can send it by e-mail. > I must agree. > The sort and an optional filter-expression > should be stored inside the list-views. > > Is there a Collection of interesting databases > in the Palm DB format? > > I have a few (Morse Code and Emoticons). I finally got my Windows parition up and running again. I was able to compile the Windows version of palm-db-tools 0.3.2. It is now up on the SourceForge site. It does not support the new note fields. I'll add support for this new field type in the next week or so. |

Hi, i have started using pilot-db recently and i have noticed few problems: 1. when I want to create a new record, it will be nice to have cursor in the first field and not to have click on it, and the "edit" icon is not necessary 2. when pilot-db controls the field validity, and it's a bad field value, it will display error. but, I want to know, which field is invalid, what's wrong with it and (maybe) its type 3. when I had db-MobileDB plugin installed, I was happy. but, I could not jump out of the MobileDB database, I always got fatal error. the only workaround was to delete db-MobileDB plugin (0.3.2beta5-iconic and current plugins) thank you, miro |
