Adam can you take a look at RFE 703136 and let me know what your opinion is. https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=703136&group_id=73598&atid=538277 Mike is concerned about the menu getting too long horizontally. Don. |

Adam, I'm getting this error trying to uninstall the module when I have images in the directory: Warning: rmdir(/home/httpd/htdocs/phpwebsite-full/phpwebsite/images/phpwslistings/) [function.rmdir]: Directory not empty in /home/httpd/htdocs/phpwebsite-full/phpwebsite/core/File.php on line 316 FYI. OK I implemented the change so ListingClass::showSelect will print a form hidden field if there is only one class. One issue then is that on the menu on the side I have submit buttons for the "View Listings" and "Search" things. Can I have normal links submit forms? Don. Otherwise I could just have the code print the select box if there is more than one class. Otherwise just use the hidden form field. I might be leaning towards this one. Don. I think we should have an "enable multiple classes" option in settings, so that if it isn't checked, the admin will still need to set up one class, but then the class_id would be set in a hidden form var instead of presenting a select-box. Holla Back. Don. |

Hey, Well I had a realtor friend of mine stop by and look at the cvs version I was running. He was VERY impressed with it especially compared to the current version of Open Realty I'm running. The only suggestion he thought of to improve and take it to the next level would be what he called a "Comp" page. This would be for realty only I image, but I believe might make it useful for other listings. Once a listing is marked as "SOLD" keep it active to the public for $variable set by deity. Then once the listing is actually removed from public view, keep it stored somewhere so only agents can access it and then with the agent only fields, they can see how long the listings was on the market, what was the asking price, what it sold for and any other info the realty agents do after it was sold. These listings should be kept for one year once they are removed from public view and then removed from the database after the one year. The above information I described is VERY valuable to realty agents, bankers and appraisers I guess. Then create another access level that can see this "SOLD" database, but not add new listings. Does this sound like something that can be done? If so I would like to submit this as an RFE. Mike Windsor |

Adam this question is directed towards you, is it > possible or could it be possible to create a User Group or User that is > deity for a module? A group or user that could grant permission to any > user in the database for one module only? No, this is not possible with the current state of the user module [not my fault :)]. If you give a user permission to edit the permissions of other users, they will be able to edit the permissions on all modules. I would suggest not using a phpws user as an agent and just associate an agent with a phpws user account. This way you can accomplish the permissioning goals you have set down and if the admin of the website wants to allow public users to have accounts on the site for various reasons (personal house listings, remembered settings, etc) you don't want them to have "agent status" in the phpwslistings system. I can say more here but I will refrain for now to hear your thoughts on what I've written so far. As far as the shopping cart goes, it should be a separate module from phpwslistings that is flexible enough to allow it to hold any type of object (house, car, shirt, soda, etc). Basically each "object" would need a few required attributes and functions to integrate with the cart correctly, a name or label, a weight (to calculate shipping), a "small view" function and a "full view" function, and a price. I'm probably missing a few things there obviously but you get the idea. Don, I don't think phpwsListings would make a great shopping cart, although if someone wanted to use it as a simple cart would work. Probably the best Open Source Shopping Cart out there is http://www.oscommerce.com . It has a huge userbase and can be set up rather nicely. I'm not sure if it could be made a module for phpws, but it would be something to work from. I've installed it numerous times testing it out and is great. I just need something to sell. :) Mike ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don Seiler" <do...@se...> To: "phpwslistings dev krew" <php...@li...> Sent: Monday, March 17, 2003 9:55 PM Subject: [phpwslistings-dev] cart program > I'm trying to convince someone that fishcart sucks and that I could write > a shopping cart module for phpws. Don and Adam, Yesterday Don and I talked about automatically activating agents when users were added. Currently in phpwsListings the phpwsListings deity must activate a user and that activation flag allows them to use the system regardless of the permissions they are assigned through phpws. From my understanding that was to allow an assigned phpwsListings deity to activate agents without access to the user module built into phpws. I know in phpws that the "Administrator" check box will give a user access to whatever module. Adam this question is directed towards you, is it possible or could it be possible to create a User Group or User that is deity for a module? A group or user that could grant permission to any user in the database for one module only? For further clarification; I have ten users in the database including me as phpws deity. I want to give user "Joe" the ability to grant other users permission to use the phpwsListing modules and that module alone. Joe can not do anything else outside of phpwsListing module. Can this be done currently in phpws (I can't figure it out), or would changes need to be made to phpws? Currently Don has built this functionality into phpwsListing, but I think it would be easier for module developers if this could be done through phpws instead of having to code this themselves. I'm trying to convince someone that fishcart sucks and that I could write a shopping cart module for phpws. I'm wondering if we could evolve phpwslistings into a cart, but I actually think a "listings" engine and a "shopping cart" really aren't the same and that perhaps a separate phpwsCart program might be in order. Notable needs for a cart program would be inventory tracking, shipping things, credit card things, etc. What do you guys think? I've had it up to here with fishcart. That program is full of so many bugs. They didn't even bother to test their pgsql install script before releasing 3.04. I had to report all the issues. Don. |

The search module requires that you write a custom search function for it to call upon. You have full control over the results returned and should be able to handle checking the form elements properly in that function. Here is some limited documentation, let me know if you need more info: http://res1.stddev.appstate.edu/horde/chora/co.php/search/docs/README.txt Adam > The reason I didn't try to use the phpws search module and did it my self > was because I didn't think the core search module would know to look at > the form elements properly. > > If I'm wrong then by all means I'd love to use it if it does the sorting > etc like we wanted. > > Don. > > On Thu, 13 Mar 2003, Mike Windsor wrote: > >> Would it be possible to register phpwslistings with phpws Search Module? >> What I was wondering if it would do is; >> Register phpwsListings with phpws Search Module, phpwsListings has two >> classes(real estate and automobile), search for red cars in phpws search >> function. >> Will it return red automobiles, all automobiles, all listings from all >> classes or not work at all? >> >> >> >> Mike >> >> >> >> >> ------------------------------------------------------- >> This SF.net email is sponsored by:Crypto Challenge is now open! >> Get cracking and register here for some mind boggling fun and >> the chance of winning an Apple iPod: >> http://ads.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/redirect.pl?thaw0031en >> _______________________________________________ >> phpwslistings-developers mailing list >> php...@li... >> https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/phpwslistings-developers >> >> >> > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by:Crypto Challenge is now open! > Get cracking and register here for some mind boggling fun and > the chance of winning an Apple iPod: > http://ads.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/redirect.pl?thaw0031en > _______________________________________________ > phpwslistings-developers mailing list > php...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/phpwslistings-developers > -- Adam Morton Developer - Electronic Student Services http://phpwebsite.appstate.edu Founder - Appalachian Linux Users Group http://alug.appstate.edu |

The reason I didn't try to use the phpws search module and did it my self was because I didn't think the core search module would know to look at the form elements properly. If I'm wrong then by all means I'd love to use it if it does the sorting etc like we wanted. Don. Would it be possible to register phpwslistings with phpws Search Module? What I was wondering if it would do is; Register phpwsListings with phpws Search Module, phpwsListings has two classes(real estate and automobile), search for red cars in phpws search function. Will it return red automobiles, all automobiles, all listings from all classes or not work at all? Mike |

It all sounds good. I'm about 70% done with my changes for v0.2.0. I have no problem putting your changes in now if the next version of phpws is going to be out soon. It'd be a little silly releasing a version that depends on a version on phpws that isn't out yet. :p I'm really looking forward to these performance improvements, btw. Let me know what you think. Hey fellas, I spent some time today getting the install and uninstall for phpwslistings up to date. I was having trouble getting it to smoothly install and uninstall so I took it upon myself to beat it into submission. I made some minor changes that will allow the directory creation and deletion to work on any OS platform. Previously it was creating and removing the image directories using a system command. For these changes to actually work though I added a new function to the core PHPWS_File class called rmdir. It recursively removes a directory and all it's contents and uses php functions instead of system commands to do so. I wasn't going to commit the changes til I got the ok from you, Don since it does require that your phpws code be updated and, hence, would not work with v0.9.0. Let me know what you think and I can commit those changes. Oh yeah. Are you sure you want to see agents locked into Listing Classes? I guess that would work. I'll probably need to write up a mechanism to allow multiple classes. Probably store the multiple class_id's in a double-pipe delimited string. Let me know what you think. Don. Can you test on the dev site at http://seiler.homelinux.org? I don't have the error thing yet. Don. Don, I think what you have on your dev site will work great. I would even have it so you can select the class and then view agents and agency's for that class, but I imagine your already writing that. +1 to the Listings Menu and I would present an error to the user who doesn't select a class, do to the simple fact if someone is searching for a particular real estate property, they don't want to search by agent or agency. They want to look for all the farms or all the houses or all the acreage and so on. OK thanks. Basically the menu block will look something like this (excuse my ascii art): Listing Menu ------------ Home [ |v] <-- drop down menu of classes [View Listings] <-- submit button [Search Listings] <-- submit button So the View and Search buttons will both look at the class selected in the drop down list. If you don't select anything in the drop-down, view will give you a list of ALL the listings. With search we can do two things: Present an error and force them to select something, or display a search form with only the agency/agent/title/price and listing date. None of the dynamic form elements will be presented for searching since they are tied to classes. This does remind me of one more thing: Form Elements were going to be tied to one class. I'm thinking of having another option like "All Classes" if you wanted an element that all classes would use. What do you guys think. Don. Hey, Don wanted me to post this as a reminder for him. 1.Use a dropdown for searching the classes. 2.And for the menu block, tie in the dropdown for navigation of the listings. I hope I got it right. Mike |

OK good think I sent this email as opposed to just taking the 30 seconds to change the code first. Change is in. Haven't tested it. Don.
