you could also use spamAssassin filters on your mail client, most
of the spam goign thru sourceforge's email accounts have already
been flagged like this :

I would hope that the rbl and open-relay list filters are set-up on the
majordomo server.  It is one of the first measures I took on my mail
server.  But at the end of the day - maybe it is worth having some
authentication of the kind so that only subscribers may post.
That puts an extra hurdle in the way of spammers.

Offenders can then be removed.  I like the "human readable gif" method
myself.  The "let us mail you your password - and then come back." has th=
e
problem that most people(including myself) are very paranoid about puttin=
g
our email addresses in these places.

do -- just as phpslash-users does.
We definitely need not only spam filters, but blackholes setup (by IP and 
whatever else we can use -- open proxy, etc...). Whoever uses this list 
legitimately should know better.

On the bright side, we have to admit that spam makes us all laugh. Enlarging 
body parts that work on specifics areas (not in your hand, throat or 
stomach, but targets that area). Making phone calls for $0.039 (3 cents and 
9 chelines). And the lovely and well respected 
African-related-son-of-king-or-queen spams, better known as the "Nigerian 
Spam". A hillarious piece of work for those who have dare to read the first 
two lines before deleting it.

Sorry but what version of phpslash are you using? is it the latest stable or 
the alpha releases?
Also, what http server are you using, and what browser.

Check that you are using the latest version of phpslash (0.72) and that you 
are using the phplib classes that come preinstalled with that release.

Other things to check:
1. make sure the user which runs the http server (apache?) have access to 
read from the classes directory as well as the main site.
2. remove all .htaccess files you might have
3. make sure that test.php works fine
4. clean all cookies relating to this site ( the main URL also, not just the 
path /phpslash ) and try again...
5. keep posting here or get into the #phpslash channel in irc.freenode.net

[phpslash-users] Installation Problem

Okay I've read through the manual and browsed the list archives and I
can't find anything to solve my problem.  Basically after installing, I
will sometimes be able to see the main page (or test page) but any time
I try to login or refresh the previous page, I get the following error:

Fatal error: The script tried to execute a method or access a property of
an incomplete object. Please ensure that the class definition slashauth
of the object you are trying to operate on was loaded _before_ the
session was started in /home/class/phplib/php/page4.inc on line 26

I've checked and everything seems okay config wise.  PHP 4.2.3 running on
Mandrake.


Any ideas?

Things died down for awhile.

phpSlash0.8 is being developed pretty heavily again.  Check the
phpslash-devel archives where most of the discussion has been.

We're working closer with the Back-End development team so that their
module development will be compatible.

Here's a few ways to help:

Translators and someone to manage translations.

Documentation help and again someone to head documentation issues.

testing -  Download the -dev snapshot and test.  Submit bug reports and
even just post back what you like or don't like.  Report where
documentation needs help.

The phpslash-dev is being released in periodic snapshots.  You can install
this very quickly by untarring the distribution in the web space and
loading the index page.  Evan Hughes' install wizard was ported over from
Back-End.

Note that there is no upgrade from 0.7x yet.  The code is alpha.  There
may be lots of incompatible changes before actually being released.

Well, it's for a Back-End module & not phpSlash, but I don't think it
would be all that hard to bring it's functionality over to a psl block. 
It's the direction we want to take it anyways.

One of the features we've built into it is that it records the
sender/receiver's email address so that folks will get only one email
alert.
