Hi, I've been using PGV for awhile now..It is great! However, I recently started using the media options. Whenever I go to Add a new media item to a fact or to the individual directly, I see a common issue and I don't know how to resolve it. For instance.. inside the Fact, I click Add Media, another window opens and I select the file to upload from my computer, I leave the directory as the default which is showing ./media in that window (which I have specified in the configuration file as ./media). I fill in the rest of the fields and click save... The file uploads and takes me back to the fact that I was working on with the media M### filled in now in the proper field. When I click save on the fact, the page refreshes as it should, but I am unable to view the media item.. I looked at the database to see what it was showing and it appears that when the upload occurs, it puts in an additional media/ in the m_file field of pgv_media table. e.g. instead of just ./media/ filename.jpg, or just filename.jpg, it has this in the field: ./media/ media/filename.jpg When I look at the server's file structure, it shows multiple subdirectories of media, inside media, inside media etc.. with the respective thumbnail directories.. It is like the upload panel is out of control or looses touch with where things should be.... Any thoughts on what I could be doing wrong here? Is there a way to prevent these multiple subdirectories from being created and the issues with the table entries? Some files are being put in these subdirectories on upload as well???? Help!!! Thanks, Rick |

I find filezilla works very well. Once connected to your site highlight the file (or files) whose permissions you want to change, right click, select "file attributes" and off you go... EFTP should work. That's what I use. :-) Actually, sorry, I was wrong about not being able to make a file read-only on one system and then copying it to another. Windows is famous for that issue... I've had issues before where I wasn't able to change file permissions, and then a couple of hours later, I was able. That may be your problem, sometimes it takes a busy server a little time to make changes. I'm assuming you have access to some kind of panel through your host that allows you to make changes i.e., add subdomains, MySQL databases, e-mail accounts... Been awhile since I used cpanel (common panel in use), login and see if you have a file manager or such. Allows you to delete, move, edit files. See if you can't change your file permissions there. john On 22 Jul 2006 at 18:46, dennis wrote: > Sorry I didn't make myself clearer. Can't help much with the picture problem, as I use another program. But you might want to make sure that your media directory and files within are all chmod to 777. I think that might fix your picture problem. As for your config.php problem. I've never heard of making a file read-only, and then tranfering it to another system. You need to change it on the system that PGV resides. Couple ways of doing that, most FTP programs will allow you to chmod a file, depending on the host your using, almost all have some kind of file manger that will allow you to change your file permissions. If your using cpanel, the capability is there. One thing to keep in mind is sometimes it takes a couple of minutes for a change to filter through the system, this is especially true in a cluster setup. john On 22 Jul 2006 at 15:33, dennis wrote: > I went ahead & set it up (1 copy of PGV and multi-gedcom files). I went ahead & set it up (1 copy of PGV and multi-gedcom files). I guess MySQL was what I needed because the search is accessing both gedcoms. The 2 things I need to figure out now is how to make config.php read-only (I never did that in the past) & figure out why Legacy V.6 & PGV aren't quite shaking hands when it comes to my default pictures. I don't think my server allows me to change config.php to read-only online (?), when I download the file change it to read-only then upload it I get a big error. As far as the pictures I think it has something to do with the "_PRIM Y" in the gedcom, as far as I can tell all the pictures have a _PRIM Y. I'm trying to get the pictures I want to appear in the pedigree chart Thank you Dennis At 02:21 PM 7/22/2006, you wrote: >You can use the same database, but you need to give each database a >different prefix. You can use the same database, but you need to give each database a different prefix. This is if you plan to have *9* separate running copies of PGV. If you are going to have *one* running copy of PV, you can upload as many gedcom files as you can handle. With one copy of PGV and multi-gedcom files, everyone may have access to each gedcom file. It depends on how you set it up. Which are you planning to do? john On 20 Jul 2006 at 19:39, dennis wrote: > Just about ready to upload PHPGedView but have a question about MySql & > multiple databases. Just about ready to upload PHPGedView but have a question about MySql & multiple databases. Do you need a separate MySql databases for each gedcom or will they all go into 1? For my package I only get one & 1 MySql databases, and I am planning on putting 9 gedcoms online (about 2.9 meg). I help a lot of family members. Also when I had ver. 3.3.3(?) up I think you were supposedly able to be able to search multiple databases, but in index mode I was only search the database I was in. Will ver. 4 search all the databases in index mode? Dennis -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Dennis, =20 MySQL is slightly more secure than index mode because you are not = reading in so many files. there is a time limit on how long a script can run as well as a time limit on how long a http connection can last... i forget exactly where it is, but in the config for the ged that you are importing, there is a setting for how long the script can run... on many of mine, i have to set it really high (ie: 20+ minutes) to get all the import stuffs done... after that, i generally set it back to something more normal for general operation... vincebr549 wrote: > Tnx for your input... > I'm running this on php-4.3.11-2.8 > > I saw a bunch of memory shortages earlier when I first started > trying to do the instal. Me too... My gedcom file is abt 5Mb running on a 750 Mhz 258Mb weber server with little else running. before your index, it took a good 30 minutes (not seconds) to see the welcome page. now it is down to 15 seconds for the welcome page. tnx for your help. txn for your input. So I guess you are saying there is an export function which will create the gedcom file in a state that matches the database. I'm assuming that if I updated the database without updating the "copy" of the gedcom in the gedview index, that bad things would happen. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/external-SQL-updates---sync-gedcom-file-tf1926380.html#a5295940 Sent from the phpgedview-talk forum at Nabble.com. |

Tnx for your input... I'm running this on php-4.3.11-2.8 I saw a bunch of memory shortages earlier when I first started trying to do the instal. When that happened it told me with a message indicating how much it had and how much it wanted, (I have the option to report php errors turned on). It was running out at 32M, I bumpted it up to 48Mb, the memory shortage messages stopped but still can't include married names. v -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/V4-import-w-postgresql-tf1926349.html#a5295843 Sent from the phpgedview-talk forum at Nabble.com. |

PHP probably ran out of memory. The default PHP setting is 8MB. You can try to increase this in your PGV configuration or in the php.ini file. It takes a lot of memory to run the married names because you have to have all of the people loaded up and all of the families loaded up in order to calculate what the married names should be. --John -----Original Message----- From: php...@li... Yes, you could alter the data in the SQL tables and then export the data from PhpGedView back into the GEDCOM format. Probably easier though to edit the GEDCOM file in a text editor with regular expression capable search and replacing and then import the file back into PGV again. --John -----Original Message----- From: php...@li... I've built a list. First of all I suggest that whatever you do is done together with whoever made the file. If they've done so much work before, then you want to keep working with them. If you run through the file 'fixing' it and they disagree with what you've done then you'll have two seperate databases. Bad bad bad thing to have. If you can convince the other person that phpgedview online is a good way to edit then you _together_ can make an agreement on what to change, and do it together, on the same database. >=20 > Is it possible to use sql to update the data base then somehow > put the gedcom file back in sync? I'm useless at SQL, but that sounds that the hard way to do it. Duncan --=20 Linux user: 372812 | GPG key ID: 21A8C63A | http://lithgow-schmidt.dk |
