Yes, I did create the database in mysql, and assigned a username and password for this database, and recorded this in config.php. Thought I'd mention it. Thanks for any reply! --le |

Hello all -- question again: does pgv 4.0.2 require php5 as it says in one place in the readme? or is 4.3 or higher the required version of php, as stated elsewhere in the readme? I have decided to install things assuming the latter. I uploaded the entire source tree of pgv to my server/public_html/pgv, moved the index folder outside public_html, and edited config.php as best I could. I also changed the permissions as specified in the readme and uploaded my gedcom and put it in the index folder. But when I go try to run config.php I get a server error. What am I doing wrong? Is it necessary to put phpgedview files immediately under public_html? or is it ok to do as I did (see above) and put the source tree under pgv? Back to the drawing board. Please if anyone sees a problem in the above and can correct my misunderstanding of things, feel free to enlighten me. Thanks much in advance! |

Hello all -- could someone please post again the link describing installation instructions? Someone posted it once before but I cann't find it in the folder of mail from this list. The readme in the source for 4.0.2 says i need php 4.3 in one place, but then later says that for versions 4.0 of pgv or later the requirement is php 5. This is really upsetting my schedule as I am not the one supporting the server and the server admin says he will not install php5 as it is unstable -- or rather, the required version of mysql that works with php5 is unstable. Someone please help if possible! I don't have time to install server software on my pc before my due date for this project as I have never administered a windows server before. Thanks much in advance! --le |

I have had PHPGedview running on my old laptop using Apache 2.2.4/PHP 5.2/mySQL 5 without any problems. I installed all these again on my new laptop after getting revised details to install Apache on Vista and these are all working as required. When I then try and go to //localhost/PGV I get Error 27 DB not found. To overcome this issue I decided to use Windows Easy Transfer to copy my complete setup of PHPGedView to my new laptop. (This places the files in the exact same location that they cam from on the old laptop. I also copied the required conf files for Apache, PHP and the mySQL DB as well. Now the Welcome page for PHPGedView opens but it displays the following error within the GEDCOM Statistics frame ERROR:-18 DB Error: no such table SQL:SELECT o_gedcom, o_file FROM pgv_other WHERE o_id LIKE 'HEAD' AND o_file='2' [nativecode=1146 ** Table 'phpgedview.pgv_other' doesn't exist] Fatal error: Call to undefined method DB_Error::numRows() in C:\PHPGedView\includes\functions_db.php on line 429 The exisitng environment is still working but when copied over to my Vista PC it is not. I have tried to look to see if anyone else has had the same issue back to the time Vista was released but I couldn't find anything so I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction with my issue above. Many Thanks for any help offered John Henriksen |

Could someone please comment on this? I can't see a way to "remote link" the data without duplicating (at least) the relevant family information (marriage dates and stuff) in each of the three gedcoms. Is it the way remote linking is supposed to be done? or is there something I overlooked? |

Hi list. Is there any one on this list who can explain to me how what I have to do in changing the colors of the printout and something more: 1.)If I say in the print setup Print without background all fields are printed without color but also all vertical connection lines will not be printed. 2.)Is it possible to make this prints with no icons inside the fields? If YES, on what place I have do make a setup for this. I would appreciate help in solving, if possible, a bug or bad setting in the marital status label in the Close Relatives display. If not a bug, then perhaps I need to change a setting somewhere. There are a large number of unmarried parents in my database <http://stadsbygd.pgvhosting.com/>. For example, here is a woman christened in 1795 who had four children with four different men, none of them married to her. <http://stadsbygd.pgvhosting.com//individual.php?pid=I17951&ged=Dlh1.GED> In the Personal Facts and Details display, they are correctly labeled as Friends. But in the Close Relatives display, they are transformed into Husbands. And here's my great-grandfather <http://stadsbygd.pgvhosting.com/individual.php?pid=I00061&ged=Dlh1.GED>, again correctly shown with one marriage and one previ0us lover in Personal Facts and Details, but both women are made Wives in the Close Relatives display. I've had two living people complain to me that they were shown as married to someone with whom they are or were living and had children but had not married. One asked to be removed from the database, leaving his children with no recorded father. Is there some way to correct this label so it reads Friend instead of Husband or Wife? Thanks. Dennis |

Hi, All I can say is that none of the beta versions would work here under Solaris/Linux. The last I tried would just give the proverbial blank screen. I left a message concerning this on one of the phpGedView forums (Open discussion, I believe). As such, I have experimented just a little with phpGedView 3 and found a problem or 2, and probably a design flaw. Currently, I have no time to say more. Sorry, --Ralph |

Unfortunately, being an open source project it is very hard to plan releases because everyone is a volunteer and their availability varies from week to week. =20 I also prefer not to make many announcements about a release date because I am usually wrong. For example, I wanted to release beta 6 this last weekend, but a major privacy flaw was identified when searching with multiple gedcoms and it needs to be fixed before the next release. =20 To get involved with testing all you have to do is install and use the beta versions. Then post any bugs back to the Version 4.1 tracker on the sourceforge.net project site. https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=3Dbrowse&group_id=3D55456&atid=3D63= 4867 =20 If you are familiar with SVN, then you can also get involved by checking out and using the SVN code. Using SVN you can always get the latest updates and the patching->feedback loop is simpler and faster. =20 --John =20 =20 From: php...@li... Waldo Thanks for your advice. I found where the path to the location of the session files in the php.ini file. I have since changed the location of both the session and upload files as these where set by the system initially. Now I don't have any problems with session errors and warnings. replying to myself: I tried playing with different setups of the three files. The cleanest seemed to me to be the one where I had no "stub" records whatsoever: The family F1 in A.ged had the child set to @S3:I1@ (individual A) The family F1 in B.ged had the child set to @S3:I2@ (individual B) A and B are contained in CHLD.ged, married there and have children there. The record for A has FAMC set to @S1:F1@ The record for B has FAMC set to @S2:F1@ but there are a couple of issues again (if you think these are bugs, let me know and I can file them as such in the tracker): - Family view of F1 in A.ged won't show any information on A (no gender, no birth date, etc.) - "close relatives" view of the father in A.ged does show this information though. - when viewing "close relatives" of the individual A in CHLD.ged, the remote family (parents) of A is shown fine except A himself: A is shown as sibling with a double remote link S1:S3:I1. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- as I am not sure whether these are bugs at all (in PGV? in my GEDCOM files?) or just an uncovered case, and, as this scenario seems to be quite common, could someone please send be an example of three files linked together like this: > I'd like to separate the ancestors of the husband and the ancestors of > the wife in two different GEDCOM files. Their common family (incl > descendants) I'd like to put in a third file. > Their family and descendants should be visible from all three sides. thanks in advance |

Hi, after reading the forums and the archives of the mailing list, it is still somewhat unclear to me what is the proper way to do proper remote linking. First, I'd like to explain my ultimate goal: I'd like to separate the ancestors of the husband and the ancestors of the wife in two different GEDCOM files. Their common family (incl descendants) I'd like to put in a third file. Their family and descendants should be visible from all three sides. [here I'd like to hear if it is possible at all, but according to the forums it is a quite common scenario] I started playing by creating a GEDCOM with a male individual A and parents FA and MA and a second GEDCOM with a female individual B and parents FB and MB. First test was to "remote link" from A to B, remote person B being A's wife. That creates a family in A's gedcom, where I can put all the information on the family, like date and place of the marriage and so on. But, when viewing from B's GEDCOM file, there is no family visible. If I create the remote link from B to A, this creates a family record in B's file, which is not related to the one in A's file. I didn't yet start adding children, but this already sounds complicated. Am I doing this the proper way? --------------------------------------------------------- The second approach would be to create the "common" part of the tree by hand in the gedcom files and upload them, but I'd like to hear from the experts first, If my approach would be correct. files: A.ged, B.ged, CHLD.ged put A and all ancestors of A into A.ged, B and ancestors into B.ged create "stub" individuals A,B in CHLD.ged (with RFN to the other GEDCOMs) create a Family A+B and children (as individuals) inside CHLD.ged so far, starting from CHLD, we should see all of the ancestry. but when coming from A.ged, should we add a "stub" individual pointing to the person B in file B.stub and a stub family pointing to the family A+B in gile CHLD.ged ?? Thanks in advance, Sergei |

I have over come my problem and have got phpgedview up and running now. But I now have another issue when I log in with it having trouble writing to the following folder. =20 C:\Documents and Settings\Local_User\Local Settings\Temp\php\session =20 It is due to the last 2 folders below Temp. =20 When I go and create these folders so it is the same as the path above I have no problems in logging in with NO Errors or Warning. =20 Then when I log out the system it then deletes the \php\session folders. =20 So next time I go to log in I have to go and create these folders again. =20 How do I overcome having to create these folders each time? =20 I am currently running this on my laptop which is running on XP Home edition. =20 Everything else is running fine. =20 Many Thanks for any help offered =20 John Henriksen =20 ________________________________ From: John Henriksen=20 Sent: Thursday, 10 May 2007 2:12 PM To: 'php...@li...' PHPGedView Team I have solved my problem!!! I removed my original install of PHPGedView files and re-installed from zip file of stall version. It appears that in my prior install all the files in folder directly under my root folder where missing. At that I had installed where All the folders and associated files under these folders. I will upgrade once I have got the stable one up and running first. I don't have time now to configure PHPGedView now but I will do this over the next few days. At least I am now able to configure PHPGedView which I was not able to do before. Sorry to worry everyone about this issue but I knew it would be something simple and it was. Thanks for all the help everyone has offered me trying to solve my problem. If you are familiar with SVN, then my recommendation would be to use the main SVN trunk to get the latest beta code, which will eventually become the latest stable code. This will allow you to use the latest work, including the googleMap and research Assistant modules. Current Releases: * Latest Stable Release - 4.0.3 * Latest Beta Release - 4.1 beta 5 * Latest Index mode release - 3.3.8 Version Control: * CVS main branch - 3.3.9 * CVS "future" branch - 4.0.4 * SVN main trunk - 4.1 beta 6 * SVN phpGedView4.2 branch - 4.2 alpha Release Schedule: (always subject to change) * 4.1 beta 6 - 19 May 2007 * 4.1 stable - Mid Jun (depending on beta 6 test results) * 4.2 beta 1- 31 Aug 2007 Future Version Control: * CVS is being deprecated, but will continue to be available for 3.3.x maintenance * SVN trunk will hold the latest stable code * SVN branches will hold newest alpha/beta development --John PhpGedView Project Manager > -----Original Message----- > From: php...@li...
