Hi, phpesp looks awesome, but I'm not able to run phpESP.sql from the command line. I said $ mysql -uroot -p phpesp < public_html/phpESP.sql it requested a password I entered the password of the account and got back: ERROR 2000: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: YES) whussup? I can build the dbase if I know what the tables look like.. Is there somewhere I get get a description of the table configuration I need to set up? FYI, I'm on a shared server Linux running Apache, php4 installed. Thanks in advance for your help! Janet |

Can't you use the "Test" feature? That way people can test it, but the responses are removed when you are done testing (and go back to editing, or activation). You can also use the undocumented "purge" page. http://yourhost/path/to/esp/manage.php?where=purge -James On Wed, 27 Mar 2002, me@shaw wrote: > Hi > I would like to know if it's possible to safely delete original activated > surveys (no data has been collected on any survey yet). Hi I would like to know if it's possible to safely delete original activated surveys (no data has been collected on any survey yet). My problem is that I have 10 surveys with approx. 50 to 60 questions each. After activating all 10, I found that they have to all be edited (can't complain as they were produced volunteers at the center). So I made copies of all 10 and will activate those after editing. I may have to do this a few times however until all are happy. I would like to remove the originals so the database is not over-run with questions before any data is collected. Many thanx again |

However, its the double quote gig that has me in a quandry. By the csv standard (if its even a standard), numeric values will not be surrounded by quotes; text will be surrounded in quotes and should a quote exist in the text, it will contain two quotes. and then we have the possibility of embedded commas... ugh. ie: "text string", 1234, "with ""embedded"" quotes", "with emb, comma" I also found some more information on how to handle newlines (that they need to have quotes around them), but that doesn't work in OpenOffice. I suspect that best thing to do is simply to strip out newlines from textarea elements before going into the db. Is more dbf functionality in CVS? I don't have any dbf functions in 1.4beta3 Thanks, keep up the good work. -- _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ James O'Malley Altamente.com +1(787)296-1540 _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ |

Yep. What I really need is to find out what the "accepted" (or defined) CSV standard is. Here are some things that need to be known: o Should text (non-numeric) values be quoted? o What character should be used for quotes? (" == ASCII 0x22) o What values need to be escaped in a quoted string? o How should values be escaped? o What types of newlines should be used? o How should newlines in quotes be handled? If someone could find out the "official" answers to those questions it would be helpful. My guess is that there is nothing close to official ... in which case I guess we just need the "closest match". > How's the dbf export coming along? Well ... pretty good in some situations. I need more info on the DBF format as well... I think that some programs have limits on the length of column labels (10 chars)? See the comments on the PHP dBase extension here: http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.dbase-create.php We are limited to at most, 255 character field widths. -James |

I'm not sure if it's a problem with OpenOffice or what, but I get weird import errors in OpenOffice when I import a csv (made with phpESP 1.4beta3). If there are line breaks in the data field, it get's imported to OpenOffice as a new record/line and then of course throws off the spreadsheet. Also, on some of the fields there some weirdness on the "," that are delimiting and the commas that are part of the text... again, throwing of data by one field all the way down. I corrected it in survey_export_csv.inc by changing the delimiter to a ^ which I find works very well, as it almost never turns up in respondant fields. Now the other issue of windows line breaks ^M in some comment fields might be an OpenOffice issue or an export issue. Anybody know what the specified end of record is for a csv file? If it's a newline then there's a problem. Maybe stripping all newlines from textarea elements is the solution? How's the dbf export coming along? -- _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ James O'Malley Altamente.com +1(787)296-1540 _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ |

Hi I get the following error when I try to test a completed survey Fatal error: Call to undefined function: array_insersect() in /home/**/****/***/***/include/where/status.inc on line 34 The survey was created by a member of the design group and I am a superuser (with full privileges I assume) trying to test the survey. Any help would, as usual, be very much appreciated |

Email me the messages.po (the text file you translated). I will check it, make the binary version, and send it to the devel list with install instructions. In the mean time download this: http://phpesp.sf.net/status.php.txt And make sure that the "gettext" extension is loaded on your webservers. -James On Tue, 26 Mar 2002 cj...@if... wrote: > we have almost translate phpESP in french. > > how to install the french version in the program ? > do we have to re-install ? > > thanks > > > > _______________________________________________ > phpESP-general mailing list > php...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/phpesp-general > |

As a note to anyone upgrading to the CVS version from v1.3. If you plan on using the same database (which is fine) you must do the following for the "Section Text" updates to work. Using what ever SQL interface you like, execute the following SQL statement: INSERT INTO question_type VALUES ('100','Section Text','N',''); If you install the CVS version using a new database, the phpESP.sql script will add the necessary row. Enjoy, -James On Fri, 22 Mar 2002, James E. Flemer wrote: > I just committed the patches from Kon to add a "Section > Text" question type. Hello, I have recently downloaded and used phpESP for a project at work. It is great! I have added a quick hack to allow authentication through ldap. I have to allow hundreds of users to create surveys and did not want to add them all into the database. I was just wondering if anyone was working on alternate authentification methods. I just committed the patches from Kon to add a "Section Text" question type. This type is not exactly a "question" at all, but it lets you insert free form text (html) anywhere into the survey. I will be updating the code on the demo site to the latest CVS version soon, so you should be able to try it out there this afternoon. I you would like to use this version, you can find instructions on how to get the sources from CVS on this page: http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=8956 I would like to thank Kon for submitting this patch. Try setting: 'auth_design' => FALSE, in your phpESP.ini. While you are at it you will probably have to set: 'auth_response' => FALSE, too. Could you please post the text message you get with the 500 error? Also set DEBUG => TRUE in your phpESP.ini, and see if it gives any more information. And if you have access to the httpd "error-log" please take a look at it and see if there is any more information there. If the 500 error is from Apache directly, then it may be a few things (check matched quotes etc where you edited files). If it is a 500 generated by phpESP it is probably a database issue, and DEBUG might tell you more (oh -- that feature might not be in v1.3, you could try the CVS version). -James On Thu, 21 Mar 2002, Brian Hulse wrote: > This is a new install, and all appears to be OK (e.g. path edits, file > locations, db table creation) except that I get a 500 error when > accessing the /admin/manage.php. This is a new install, and all appears to be OK (e.g. path edits, file locations, db table creation) except that I get a 500 error when accessing the /admin/manage.php. If I comment out the following lines, I can see the page, but no login, of course. I am on a shared (Linux) host running PHP 4.1.2 Suggestions? What other information would help? (Can't get to the errorlog right now, but will grab it if that would help.) <br /> <br /> // if(!manage_auth( <br /> // XADDSLASHES(@$HTTP_SERVER_VARS['PHP_AUTH_USER']), <br /> // XADDSLASHES(@$HTTP_SERVER_VARS['PHP_AUTH_PW']))) <br /> // exit; <br /> <br /> TIA, <br /> Brian<p><hr> |

What command are you using to backup the database? The database phpESP uses is not special in any way, so if you have backup problems it is probably a fault in the backup program. You might have better luck asking the author of the backup program.
