Hi One of the answer choices to one of my questions is 0 Choice 1 0 Choice 2 0 Extended Family (aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.) This returns an error when I'm trying to backup the database. I've removed the ('s and ,'s 0 Choice 1 0 Choice 2 0 Extended Family aunts or uncles or grandparents etc And the backup still hangs up at that point in the questions Any help/advice is, as usual, greatly appreciated |

I just patched the phpESP.ini so that it will not redeclare _() in a situation where gettext is loaded, and safe_mode is on. Note: You will not be able to take advantage of multiple languages with safe_mode on. You can get the new phpESP.ini at: http://phpesp.sf.net/cvs/admin/phpESP.ini?rev=.&content-type=application/phpESP.ini The "version" is set to "1.4 beta 1" in that ini, you can change it back to "1.3" if you like. -James |

Hello, There are two main types of threads on this list: some on questions about using/installing phpESP, and some on patching/fixing/changing phpESP. So I have created a new mailing list for discussion of the development of phpESP. The new list is "phpesp-devel" and you can subscribe to it online[1] (it may not be available right away, since SF.net batches requests). For those who are not actively involved in development there is no need to subscribe to this new list. I will cross-post summaries of any major development changes or discussions to this list. However, feel free to join the new list if you want your voice to be heard in the discussions. [1] http://lists.sf.net/lists/listinfo/phpesp-devel Thanks. -James |

Roman, I prefer to use "Section" rather than "Description" and since James has = asked that the two of us come to some agreement, I suggest we finalise it now. So, I will be using 100 and Section :) The communication bit is an excellent idea and will be taking you up on = the offer. This way we could be better aligned with future directions, ideas, etc ........ =20 Kon |

Also you may be able to find out where the php LIB directory is if you use this small script: <?php echo("include path is: " . ini_get('include_path')); ?> This should give you something like: include path is: .:/usr/local/lib/php -James On Mon, 18 Mar 2002, Roman Jasins wrote: > Rick, > > 1. why don't you just create php/contrib/phpESP under /usr/local/lib? > 2. if this is not possible in your case, than put the phpESP folder > where you can, but please don't put it inside you html directory (the > one that Apache using as html documents root). Rick, 1. why don't you just create php/contrib/phpESP under /usr/local/lib? 2. if this is not possible in your case, than put the phpESP folder=20 where you can, but please don't put it inside you html directory (the=20= one that Apache using as html documents root). This is a serious=20 security hole. Plus it looks like you've moved public folder outside=20 phpESP, don't do that either. Lets just say you have everything in /home/rick/phpESP. Than you need to=20= edit three files. manage.php, handler*.php. phpESP.ini and make sure=20 they have correct path. for phpESP.ini you should change lines #14,54,64,65 for manage.php line # 12 for handler*.php line # 17 for handler.php and default handler- prefix.php line # 45 Go through README and make two links as described for manage.php and=20 images/ inside you html folder. Let me know if this fixed your problem. -Roman On Monday, March 18, 2002, at 09:27 PM, Rick Weiss wrote: > I am feeling very much like a novice here. I am feeling very much like a novice here. I cant seem to set up a config path that works with this phpESP install. I have access to the whole server (as I am the root host), but it is a rented server and I did not do the setup. I want to use phpESP only on my site, but the recommended directory tree does not exist (/usr/local/lib/php/etc). I have /usr/local/lib but after that it is an empty directory. It is not the path to php or mysql packages. I have tried installing in the html/ directory and in the next directory below it /home/httpd. No matter where I go, I get the same message: Unable to open INI file. Aborting. Im obviously putting in the wrong paths, but I cant seem to find out why. Right now I have everything in: /home/httpd/html I have the operating files (admin, etc.) inside /html/phpESP I have the public/ folder at html/public Any idea on what config path I should be using with this setup? |

Kon, this sound like a very good resolution to me, I hope it works for you=20 too. Just s suggestion. What you did for question type 100 is great, I=20= was in fact going to make a patch myself, but never got around it. I was=20= going to call it Section, but I guess Description works too. It's very cool what you're doing for ESP. If you ever need to talk about=20= it in real time I can e-mail you (off the list) my AIM and/or ICQ names=20= so we can communicate more effectively. This sounds fine with me. I'll use 100. How about I call mine "Description". I'll also create a diff with my patches as send them to you in the next couple of days as I want to also see if I can make some changes to the survey_export_csv file so that the "Descriptions" don't appear as empty columns in the csv file. I'll also include an updated Help file explaining things. Yes I am interested in doing many more fixes and adding new features so I'll organise my account asap. Thanks Roman, A developers list on SF.net would be extremely beneficial because some = of the other=20 things I am or others are developing for this tool may already be in = development and if I=20 could contribute to this development I would be glad to. Some of the things I'm working on include: 1/ Viewing results per respondent 2/ Style templates for surveys 3/ cross analysis - after you showed me how its done I quickly figured = out that you can only pass a single qid on the query string although you are not = limited with the number of cods passed so I made changes to my version of phpesp and = can now peform cross analysis using multiple qid values as well. I look forward to learning of James' decision .......... Kon Angelopoulos |

Good job there, but we have a problem now. There is another branch that=20= is being developed for ESP where Statement question is being used for=20= something else. In fact it has the same id(11). This presents a problem=20= for the developers. I guess the solution would be to discuss details=20 with James first, since he is the Chief Yahoo here, and than put in a=20 developers list on the SF.net. All, There are a few other files that need to be changed that I have not mentioned. The changes mentioned below (in my original post) suppress a question number from appearing next to the Statement, however this means that the next valid question will appear to not have a consecutive Question number appearing next to it. for example, assume our survey has 5 questions which includes the Statement. If our Statement is question 3 then our survey will show the following: (1) Question text (2) Question text Statement (4) Question text (5) Question text To correct this the code should be: <?php if ($tid != '11') echo ("<A NAME=\"Q($i)\">($i).</A>"); else $i--; ?> Once this is done you will notice that viewing survey results, and viewing a survey report will not be consistent with the above ammendment so the following further changes need to be made to provide consistency through the entire phpesp package. The following files must be changed: 1- /lib/esphtml.results.inc 2- /function/survey_results.inc 3- /function/survey_report.inc 4- /function/survey_merge.inc Changes to esphtml.results.inc line 188 : function mkreslist($counts,$total,$precision,$showTotals) { should be changed to : function mkreslist($counts,$total,$precision,$showTotals,$tid) { after line 191: <table width="90%" border="0" cellpadding="1"> add the following: <?php if ($tid != '11') echo "<tr><th align=\"left\">#</th><th>Response</th></tr>"; ?> then delete / comment out the line: <tr><th align="left"><?php echo(_('#')); ?></th><th><?php echo(_('Response')); ?></th></tr> Changes to survey_results.inc on about line 167 you should find the following 2 lines: <tr xbgcolor="<?php echo($bg); ?>"> <td> add the following straight after the above lines: <?php if ($tid != '11') echo ("<A NAME=\"Q($i)\">($i).</A>"); else $i--; ?> then delete / comment out the line: <A NAME="Q<?php echo($i); ?>"><?php echo($i); ?>.</A> on about line 324: mkreslist($counts,$total,$precision,$showTotals); change this to : mkreslist($counts,$total,$precision,$showTotals,$tid); Changes to survey_report.inc on about line 85: <tr bgcolor="<?php echo($bg); ?>"> add the following straight after this line: <?php if ($tid != '11'){ echo "<td align=\"right\">$i</td>"; } else{ $i--; echo "<td align=\"right\"></td>"; } ?> then delete / comment out the following line: <td align="right"><?php echo($i); ?></td> Finally, just to be consistent with the changes made to the mkreslist function in both esphtml.results.inc and survey_results.inc we need to make the same change to the survey_merge file. line 350:mkreslist($counts,$total,$precision,$showTotals); needs to be changed to: mkreslist($counts,$total,$precision,$showTotals, $tid); This should be all. If you have any problems with these changes post them here....... Kon -----Original Message----- From: Kon Angelopoulos [mailto:ang...@ip...] Sent: Sunday, 17 March 2002 7:40 PM To: an...@cp... Subject: Adding Descriptive text in a survey. Hi All, One of the features I needed phpesp to have was the ability of adding descriptive text in a survey without having it be a question. I've also noticed that this has also appeared in the feature requests so I decided to do this myself. Here are the steps. 1. log into the phpesp database and issue the following sql statement: " insert into question_type values(11,'Statement','N','response_text'); " 2. now edit the /admin/include/function/survey_render.inc file. A:/ go to line 85. the original line (version 1.5) is: <?php if($question['required']=='Y') { echo('<font color="#FF0000">*</font>'); } ?><A NAME="Q<?php echo($i); ?>"><?php echo($i); ?>.</A> change this line to: <?php if($question['required']=='Y') { echo('<font color="#FF0000">*</font>'); } ?> and then add the following line 4 lines: <?php if ($tid != '11') echo ("<A NAME=\"Q($i)\">($i).</A>"); ?> This ensures that the Statement does not have a Question number displayed next to it. B:/ The next step is to find the following line: <td valign="TOP" aligh="LEFT"> - this should be line 87 in the original file or line 91 if you've added the above code. change it to: <td valign="TOP" aligh="LEFT" width="95%"> This will prevent large descriptive text or statements from messing up the formatting of your survey. and that is all.. Simply create or edit a survey, go to the Question tab where you will notice the new item "Statement" in the New Field's type dropdown list and enter your statement in the Text's text field. There can not be any possible answers to this statement so you do not need to fill in the rest of the fields in the Question tab page. Enjoy ! Regards Kon Angelopoulos |

well, you can make your survey private. than, everyone would have to authenticate before processing it. you can set the # of logins for the group of users to 1 (under Survey Access click on a survey name), which means they will be able to login only once. if you need a lot of users, their name and passwords could be generated by script (it's not included with ESP, but shouldn't so difficult to put together). hope that helps, -Roman On Saturday, March 16, 2002, at 06:04 PM, cj...@if... wrote: > hello > > is there an IP or/and cookies protection to avoid a double survey ? > > if not, how can i resolve this problem ? > > thanks > > > > _______________________________________________ > phpESP-general mailing list > php...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/phpesp-general |

Ick. Looks like it is in admin/include/funcs.inc and is not translated via gettext. You can change it by hand there. -James On Fri, 15 Mar 2002 cj...@if... wrote: > oh GREAT ! > > i take my dictionnary.. > > a last thing, where can i find the "RETURN" button when you finish a > survey ? > > i search for a long time.. > > tks > > JEF> Take a look at this page: > JEF> http://phpesp.sourceforge.net/internationalization.html > > JEF> (or cheat and just change that line in phpESP.ini) > JEF> -James > > JEF> On Fri, 15 Mar 2002 cj...@if... wrote: > > >> if there's not french version > >> i'll try to translate in french... > >> > >> but, i just want to translate into the program > >> this sentence when you have finished a survey : > >> " Thank you! > >> Thanks so much for filling this out " > >> > >> where can i find this ? > >> > >> tks > >> > >> > >> > >> _______________________________________________ > >> phpESP-general mailing list > >> php...@li... > >> https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/phpesp-general > >> > > > > _______________________________________________ > phpESP-general mailing list > php...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/phpesp-general > |

I'm still experiencing installation problem. Please help. I finally got the php working. Now when I type in the user name and password I get a forbidden error. check it out at www.usanogh.com/yana/admin since then I have tried changing the user name and password in the database directly but I get the same error. I have not tried setting the password to null. Actually I'm not sure how to do that. any thoughts? Thanks |

Thanks Roman Please do...... I've given it a go and it works fine. You've been a great help. Time to see how far I can push it......... Once Again=20 Thanks Heaps Kon -----Original Message----- From: Roman Jasins [mailto:cit...@ma...]=20 Sent: Wednesday, 13 March 2002 10:23 PM To: php...@li... Cc: Kon Angelopoulos Subject: Re: [phpesp-general] Cross Analysis Kon, if you don't mind I'll keep posting to the list, so other might get the=20 information too. Here is where I suggest you start: 1. You need to get the IDs for the Questions you're trying to Cross=20 Analyze. You need to access *View a Survey Report* function from the main management interface. There you'll find unique Questions=20 ID (qid) and also unique question choices (answers) ID (cids). I'm giving you actual urls from phpESP demo site on the sourceforge.net=20 so you can try it right away. http://phpesp.sourceforge.net/demo/index.php?where=3Dreport&sid=3D2379 2. Once you learned [qid] and [cids] for the question/s you want to do=20 cross analysis for you need to access View Results from a Survey (just like you do for a normal report). At this point there is no menu=20 option for selecting which question&choices to use in cross analysis, so you will have to do it from url string. It's not the ideal way, but=20 works for now. Here is the example of a url string (that thing you type=20 in the address bar of Netscape/IE ;-) This one will tell you how people that selected first option of question #1 (qid=3D4131) answered on the rest of the survey. http://phpesp.sourceforge.net/demo/index.php?where=3Dresults&test=3D1&sid= =3D23 79& qid=3D4131&cids=3D7941 From here all you need to do is substitute qids&sid with ones you need. That should get you started with Cross Analysis. In reply to you second post. I'm running php 4.1.2 on both of my boxes=20 (FreeBSD and OS X) I don't have any problems with ESP there. My personal opinion is that you should go ahead and knock yourself down by=20 documenting it. It wouldn't hurt to have it for new ESP believers.
