Kon, if you don't mind I'll keep posting to the list, so other might get the=20= information too. Here is where I suggest you start: 1. You need to get the IDs for the Questions you're trying to Cross=20 Analyze. You need to access *View a Survey Report* function from the main management interface. There you'll find unique Questions=20= ID (qid) and also unique question choices (answers) ID (cids). I'm giving you actual urls from phpESP demo site on the sourceforge.net=20= so you can try it right away. http://phpesp.sourceforge.net/demo/index.php?where=3Dreport&sid=3D2379 2. Once you learned [qid] and [cids] for the question/s you want to do=20= cross analysis for you need to access View Results from a Survey (just like you do for a normal report). At this point there is no menu=20= option for selecting which question&choices to use in cross analysis, so=20= you will have to do it from url string. It's not the ideal way, but=20 works for now. Here is the example of a url string (that thing you type=20= in the address bar of Netscape/IE ;-) This one will tell you how people that selected first option of question=20= #1 (qid=3D4131) answered on the rest of the survey. = http://phpesp.sourceforge.net/demo/index.php?where=3Dresults&test=3D1&sid=3D= 2379& qid=3D4131&cids=3D7941 =46rom here all you need to do is substitute qids&sid with ones you = need.=20 That should get you started with Cross Analysis. In reply to you second post. I'm running php 4.1.2 on both of my boxes=20= (FreeBSD and OS X) I don't have any problems with ESP there. My personal=20= opinion is that you should go ahead and knock yourself down by=20 documenting it. It wouldn't hurt to have it for new ESP believers. Take care, -Roman On Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at 12:37 PM, Kon Angelopoulos wrote: > Hi Roman, > > =09 > Firstly, thanks for the quick response........ > Secondly, sorry for replying to your personal email but I don't > know how to > reply to the general list. > > basically, I need to be able to cross analyse certain surveys > but do not > know where to start. Hi Guys, has anyone installed phpesp on a linux box running php4.1.2 ? If so what problems does this version of php create for phpesp? If not, would people consider it a valuable resource? I'm willing to document this (with solutions) and post it on the general list. Regards Kon Angelopoulos |

Assuming you have javascript enabled in your browser, just add a page break, then change it's position on the order tab. So following your example, set the position of one break to #6 and the other #12. -James On Mon, 11 Mar 2002, me@shaw wrote: > Hi All > Is it possible to insert page breaks after you have completed a few > questions. Hi All Is it possible to insert page breaks after you have completed a few questions. For example if I have 15 questions done, can I insert a page break after q#5 and q#10. PS: I know how to insert them before doing the next question. Many thanx |

Well I finally got the thing working. Or I think its working. I don't get an error anymore. I get a user name and password request. However the default login root/esp doesn't work for some reason. I try root for username and esp for password. Am I making a stupid mistake here??? The url to the site is www.usanogh.com/yana/admin thanks |

I see well I asked the hosting company and they say I don't have NPH for PHP right now but I can compile my own version and put it on the server. I'm not really sure what they mean by that. As in compile a new version of PHP from the source code? I also found this in the php.ini file. implicit_flush = Off is this something that might help if I turn it on? Well phpESP would probably get you half way there. You could certainly use it to get the information you want from the users. You can use the authorized survey feature to prevent ballot stuffing, as long as you have users login with HTTP authentication. However, you would have to write your own custom statistics page to generate the format you need for scores from the collected data. I'd suggest you go to the online demo, and try out phpESP yourself. Make a survey with the kind of data you need and see how it works. A link to the demo can be found on the main web page: http://phpesp.sf.net/ -James On Thu, 7 Mar 2002, Purple Raine wrote: > I run a popular gaming site and very recently another > gaming site handed me their code because they were > closing down. > > The main attraction of their website is that they > ACCUMULATED Battle Results and CALCULATED different > stats with it. > > That was an amazing feature because they tallied more > than 10,000 battle results. I run a popular gaming site and very recently another gaming site handed me their code because they were closing down. The main attraction of their website is that they ACCUMULATED Battle Results and CALCULATED different stats with it. That was an amazing feature because they tallied more than 10,000 battle results. Unfortunately, they did it all by hand! =( Basically, if a user had a result, they would submit it via e-mail to the webmaster and he would hand-calculate it and add it to the site. Well, I'm hoping for something automated and here's my idea: Say for instance, there are 10 different armies in the game we play. When a user comes to this BATTLE RESULTS page, they choose which are the armies involved in the battle (probably best with a survey type multiple choice) - so they choose Army B DEFEATS Army C. He hits submit and the data is sent to a database and it's stored. Then, on the following pages, the user can choose to view these stats :: a) A list of each army stating the amount of battles fought for each, the amount of victories, and the winninger % of each army. b) A table displaying the army vs army winning percentage. So it basically lists all the armies on the X axis and all the armies on the Y axis, and lists % of victories against each respective army. c) A Table that states which is the most popular armies, in order. That's it! Bonuses? IP-logging and graphical representation ... I asked a friend for an opinion and she suggested that I go with PHP and MySQL, but unfortunately, I don't know either of those. So then I come across PHPESP, is this the right tool for me? I'm thinking of giving the users to questions - the first is to choose the WINNER of the battle (multiple choice style), the second is to choose the LOSER of the battle ... then from that, the system will be able to use the stats to calculate what I want... (I will also take other information, like date, type of battle, etc)... but I'm just wondering, is this the right tool for me? phpESP? Thanks for your input! |

Bah! Your hosting service is using PHP in CGI mode, not as an Apache module. You will need to find out if you can use PHP in NPH (non-parsed headers) mode. Typically this is done by naming you script "nph-something" or by using /cgi-bin/nph-php instead of /cgi-bin/php. Ask your hosting service about this. -James On Wed, 6 Mar 2002, Tigran wrote: > James, > > well it looks like all the quotes are set correct. and > the permission rights are set correctly. PHP is probably crashing, and hence not returning data. There are a few probable causes: 1) Unmatched quotes (when editing paths or the phpesp.ini) 2) Missing comma or semicolon at the end of a statement (also from editing paths or the phpesp.ini) 3) PHP failing when trying to load the gettext extension (try changing "gettext.so" to "gettext.dll" in the INI) Also look back in the mailing list archives and run the status script. (I'll try to put it on the website this weekend). Don't you love PHP? I love non-beta releases that crash left and right from simple things like a syntax error. If you find out what the problem was post your solution here so other people using windows can benifit. -James On Thu, 7 Mar 2002, Brendan Lloyd wrote: > G'day: > > I've attempted to install phpESP on Windows NT running Apache & mySQL. G'day: I've attempted to install phpESP on Windows NT running Apache & mySQL. I'm pretty sure I've followed all the instructions but when I go to load manage.php via my browser, a dialog returns stating that "The document contained no data. Try again later or contact the server administrator". PHP (v.4.1.1) appears to be functioning quite normally, having been tested with basic scripts like show_source(). What have I done wrong? Please advise, Brendan |

Hi James,Griffin, I stumbled on this one too, but being still on my php learning curve, I am not sure if the changes I made are the best solution. Anyway, the attached file (which lives in <phpesp-install-dir>/admin/include/lib) solves the problem for me. It does take into account multi-valued multiple choice cases. Take a look at the lines starting at line 379 since I would like some feedback. I changed the survey_export_csv.inc in order to strip line feeds from text fields and replace these occurences with a <br> tag. Also, with multi-valued answers, the separator is changed to something else ("<->") than the field separator (a "|" in my modification) . Anyone interested in that one? Regards Paul James E. Hehe ... It's listed on the bugs list on sourceforge. I know about the problem ... don't have time to fix it right now (have classes and such). That part of the code shouldn't be too hard for someone else to hack up tho, so if anyone has the time that I lack, I'd appreciate a patch. -James On Mon, 4 Mar 2002, Griffin Palmer wrote: > I've installed phpESP and am knocked out by the functionality. I've installed phpESP and am knocked out by the functionality. This is a very well thought-out program. However, I've run into a snag in the export-to-CSV feature. A couple of my questions have "other" as a possible response. When the respondent chooses other, the CSV export feature populates that field with the value "!other" instead of the actual response. Has anybody else encountered this problem, and have you figured out a work-around? _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com |
