Hello all, I am try to setup the phpESP. Everything seems alright. I can create a survey. But when i try to activate a survey, PHP prompted me a rror "Fatal error: Call to undefined function: array_intersect()in /usr/local/lib/php/contrib/phpESP/admin/include//where/status.inc on line 162 " I have tried v.1.3 and v1.4. The problem is still exist. What's the problem? The following screen capture is for your reference. http://membres.lycos.fr/unilinu/phpesperror.gif Thanks for help. Simon |

So my guess would be that the change of default settings in PHP since then is causing your problems. Could you try the latest beta release? (The final release of v1.4 should be available soon.) Note: There was one small change in the database between v1.3 and v1.4, so you should make a new database or be sure to read the README on what needs to be done. Oh, I just thought of something else... Are you running PHP as a CGI or a module for Apache? I believe things will fail horribly if you use it as a CGI (its a PHP problem, not a phpesp problem). -James |

You can download CSV to the client rather than save it to a file on the webserver. (NOTE: There is a small change in the database btwn 1.3 and 1.4 so read the README.) You can change the location where CSV files are saved in v1.3 by editing admin/include/lib/espauth.inc (espauth-default.inc in v1.4). > 2) When I use the 1-5 ranking for a question I can not make the > question required to answer. Hi,
I've just tried to install and configure phpESP. in version 1.3 the tool
works well if I don't use authentication on designer interface. If I'll
do so I'll get a server error. The same problem I do have with the
version 1.4 beta 3.
The data of my system:
W2K, Apache 1.3 and PHP 4.2.0

I am using ver. 1.3 of phpESP and have the following three questions: 1) I have been testing a survey and exported to CSV. The process seems to work and I get the message that the csv file is saved at /tmp/name.csv. I can not find the directory. Is this directly on my server outside of my public_html area where I will not be able to access it OR did I not set something in the ini file to identify the directory to save it in? Do I need to create a tmp directory in my structure somewhere? 2) When I use the 1-5 ranking for a question I can not make the question required to answer. Do so will not let me test the survey. If I uncheck "required" the survey can be completed. 3) If I have a question asking for a numeric answer and the answer is 0 (zero) the question is treated as an unanswered question in a required field. How can I require the question, but still have a valid answer as 0. Thank you, great program. Don Sligar sl...@at... |

Well ... That is pretty much why there is a "Test" feature in the program -- so you can test it but still clear the results. There is no way to remove individual records from the web interface. You could always use mysql to remove the data though, or if there is no "real" data yet, just copy the survey and activate the copy. -James On Tue, 7 May 2002, Christopher Kolar wrote: > Hello. Hello. We have rolled out a survey using the latest 1.3 release and have
some flotsam in the data that we want to get rid of. After activating the
survey some of the people involved in setting it up "tested" it, so there
are a few bogus records at the beginning of the real data. I know that
this can be easily cleaned after getting the CSV file, but was wondering if
there is a more permanent solution to removing the survey record directly
through the database.
Thanks in advance,

If you do not like how the digest is formatted, please switch to the normal format. You can view & change you settings at: http://lists.sf.net/lists/listinfo/phpesp-general http://lists.sf.net/lists/listinfo/phpesp-devel Use the last form on the page to change settings. Also notice that some people reply just to the list, and some reply to both the _sender_ and the _list_ (i.e. reply to all). For the most part, it is only necessary to reply to just the list and only wide reply when someone asks that you CC them specifically. (I am wide replying to this message because I know flobee is subscribed to the digest, and this way will get this individually as well as in the next digest.) If you have any further questions or issues, contact me directly. Thanks, -James |

It should not cause any problems to delete them directly from the database as long as the surveys are not active (they should be in Edit mode). The table you would need to edit is "question_choice". -James On Wed, 24 Apr 2002, Heidi Anselstetter wrote: > Hi, > I have for one question (countries) more then 250 possible answers in a drop > down list. > > No we see, that it takes a lot time to load it everytime and we want to > delete the most of them and leave 20 or 30 countries left. > > I have this question now in nearly 80 diffrent surveys. Hi, I have for one question (countries) more then 250 possible answers in a drop down list. No we see, that it takes a lot time to load it everytime and we want to delete the most of them and leave 20 or 30 countries left. I have this question now in nearly 80 diffrent surveys. And that means I need to delete it on every of them. Any idea, how to do it in the best and fastest way ? Should I do it one by one survey ? Or any idea for a sql comand to delete it straight from the database ? Do i need to take care of something ? Thanks in advance for your help Kind reagrds Heidi |

Well I'm stumped.... At least for small surveys/data sets I think James is handling and exporting check boxes and essays correctly. It could be that something is breaking on the large surveys/data that you have. What version of phpESP are you using? My example surveys data export looks like this: TEST,TEST_CHECK "blah","no,yes" "asdasd","maybeso,no" "adsffg4e","maybeso,no,yes" "hhhh","maybeso, yes" "hhhh","no" "hhhh","yes" "hhhh","maybeso" When imported into one of the before mentioned applications, the results looks like this(if my formating doesn't get destroyed by the listserv): TEST TEST_CHECK ----- --------- blah no,yes asdasd maybeso,no adsffg4e maybeso,no,yes hhhh maybeso, yes hhhh no etc.... This is the correct behavior. Also... I added a "essay" question to my test survey. I added several "carriage returns" to my responses then exported again. Gnumeric opened the file correctly. TEST TEST_CHECK TEST_ESSAY ----- --------- --------- dsfgdfg yes, maybeso this is a test of the emergency broadcast system On Sun, Apr 21, 2002 at 11:21:26PM -0400, James O'Malley wrote: > > This works fine for me. James is putting them into the mix seperated by commas and an extra set of quotes (I think). For some reason I can't get it to import properly. I've been manually trying to fix the text, but I keep breaking it worse. The other issue is a text area issue where the respondant puts in a carriage return and screws up the formating (interpretes ^M as a new record and starts a new row, thereby throwing off the rest of that said record). On top of it all one of the question's data is being repeated. The form is faily complicated and I'm having a tough time finding out where the error is. Is it the code, the form, of the export? James, if you have the time and inclination (I'm sure you're super busy... but if it will possibly help others...), I can give you admin access to the CVS export and you can see what I'm talking about for yourself (maybe it'll be more obvious to you) I'm trying to help out this non-profit (Giving New England). I set them up for them and they've been busily setting up forms and doing surveys about charity and foundation budget constraints (amounts donated, solicited, trends etc.) and it's working out great for them... much better than they'd hoped. The only thing is now that they are having trouble with the export. I've been doing my best to help them, but I can't seem to find where things are going wrong, and I also don't quite understand the data structures (how the tables inter-relate etc). It'll take some time to figure it all out, but for now, I'm lost. That didn't sound like whining did it? God, I hope not ;) 'cause I love phpESP. I worked on the CSV output (both survey_export_csv.inc and download.inc) and realized that delimiting with commas is just too screwed up. I changed everything to </td><td> and made it an html table and everything works great now. Avoids line breaks fine, and the issues with problematic shifting columns are cleared up. It's a simple modification, but it might be worth a look dropping csv or just including html as an option. Seems to import more smoothly into most things (and in excel you don't even have to import and select delimiters... it already knows that it's a table and just opens it). I only have one problem still. For some reason one of the fields is out of order and one is duplicated YESFOUNDRE YESFOUNDRE CORPCHANGE FOUNDCHANG should be YESFOUNDRE FOUNDCHANG YESCORP CORPCHANGE For some reason YESCORP gets dropped and YESFOUNDRE gets duplicated, and FOUNDCHANG is shifted one field away. Anyway, it might be a user entry problem or it might be a bug (or both). All other fields that work the same way, that is, have a "yes/no" field followed by a "why" field work just fine. It's just that _one_ that behaves badly. Shows up perfectly in the survey report page however, so I'm scratching my head. -- _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ James O'Malley Altamente.com +1(787)296-1540 _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ |

This works fine for me. Or it could be I don't understand the problem :-) I created a test survey, 2 questions. First one "text box", second one a "check box" with 3 questions. I randomly answered the survey several times with multiple answer in the "check boxes". Exported the results, opened the exported file in: Gnumeric(1.0.6) Kspread(2.2.2) OpenOffice(current build) they all imported perfectly. With 2 columns, first is the "text box", second is the "check box" data. I noticed that you made some changes in the survey_export_csv.inc code after we went back and forth on March 26th. I'm still having the same problems with exporting data though. And now on top of that I can't force the survey_export_csv.inc to use another delimiter other than the comma. I've tried importing checkbox data (multiple answers in one field) in gnumeric, openoffice, staroffice, and kspread and they all shift cells upon import. If I want to modify the delimiters, where would I find them now (am thinking either tab or ^ for delimiter)? The two join statements in survey_export_csv.inc don't seem to do the trick. (hehe, I don't comment my code either). Perhaps, I'm going about this all wrong... go back to the beginning. If I want to look at the data by respondant (as in tabular form), how would I do that? Is anybody else out there got a fancy schmancy query tool that will build web-tables of the data or whatnot? It's got so much cool relational table stuff I'm not sure the whole structure and relationship will fit in my head inside of a month or two... must stop babbling and upgrade my CPU *knocks head*. Thanks for any info you can provide. -- _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ James O'Malley Altamente.com +1(787)296-1540 _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ |
