Hello, I've recently installed phpESP v1.4 on a Redhat 7.3 system. Everything is running well. This is good software! Here's my issue: I've created a new group and added a designer to that group. The designer has access to design, change status, and export data for lists in that group. I want the designer to be able to activate the surveys he creates (I assumed "Change Status" would give that ability), however he only seems to have the ability to test the survey. Activation is still only allowed by the superuser. Is this the intended behavior? If so, is there any way to allow designers to activate polls created within their own group, or least activate polls they themselves create? I'd like the option to take this little bit of administration out of the hands of the superuser. Thanks for any ideas! Erik Fenstermaker efe...@is... |

I just installed phpESP and am quite impressed with it so far. [This is a feature request so I'm not sure whether to do that here or in the devel list but it's here so if this is the wrong place go ahead and flame away.] One thing I've noticed is that the "rate" scale is static with numbers ranging from 1 to n. I would like that to be assignable so I can have text, for instance. Instead of a scale of "1 -2 -3 - 4 - 5 - N/A", I want to be able to implement a scale like: "Great - OK - Opinion Free - Not OK - Sucks - N/A" or anything else (and blank values, especially for interim points on the scale, would be acceptable). If this can be done with the current version let me know. Otherwise, can it be implemented? Thanks, Mike |

Hi Guys, The last time we had a discussion about this one we were debating whether a single new inteface (the third one) would be used for phpESP with the effort being put into survey themes. James posted on the 4th of thid month "Themes and Templates" initialising this discussion for which there were only two replies. Both these replies indicated that phpESP's GUI be updated using (GUI number 3) and devoting the effort to theming surveys instead. This is exactly what I'm doing. phpESP will have a new GUI but will not be themeable as such (colors, fonts can be changed but thats it). Both the new GUI and themable surveys should be available in about 2 weeks. Kon |

It sounds like safe_mode is enabled on the webserver. If this is the case, then you need a directory that is owned by the same user your scripts are, with world write permission (0777). You should point 'home' to that (on line ~170 in espauth-default.inc). You will also need to change the umask to something less restrictive in survey_export_csv.inc on line ~119. -James On Mon, 20 May 2002, Don Sligar wrote: > Great script if I can get this last issue solved. > > I have now changed espauth-default.inc to be the root path that I > changed for all other scripts and into a tmp directory under phpESP > directory. > > 1) Test of a survey will transfer my CSV file to a directory on my hard > drive. Unfortunately phpESP tries to be "smart" when picking the language setting, and takes a look at the languages that your browser requests. Check and see if the language preferences in your browser are something other than danish (i.e. english). Another problem could be that the hosting service you are using does not have the GNU Gettext extension loaded for PHP. Put this PHP script somewhere on the server and see what it tells you: http://phpesp.sf.net/files/status.php.txt -James On Sun, 19 May 2002, Søren Thing Pedersen wrote: > Hi all > > I just started using phpESP 1.4 - impressive stuff. > > I want to localize it to danish. Currently phpESP doesn't have a facility to specify a ".css" for surveys. I'm itching to add that feature myself, but I believe another developer(Kon Angelopoulos) is currently working on it. Kon, how close are you to getting this going? On Tue, May 21, 2002 at 12:07:19PM +0200, Sebastian Sp?th wrote: > Hi, > I got everything right now and phpESP is running wonderfully. Hi, I got everything right now and phpESP is running wonderfully. I embedded my survey in a webpage and that was fine as well. But I have to create a new "template" page for every survey now. It would be sufficient to link the standard oztput to a .css file (I gave the table in survey_render.inc a class name) and change that global survey.css How can that be done? In the .ini there was only a setting for the manage.php style sheet and I did not find the header part of the survey. What part should I modify to include that link to an external file? Hope that was not too confusing, :-) Sebastian |

Great script if I can get this last issue solved. I have now changed espauth-default.inc to be the root path that I changed for all other scripts and into a tmp directory under phpESP directory. 1) Test of a survey will transfer my CSV file to a directory on my hard drive. This seems to work. 2) If I activate a survey then request a CSV file it saves it to my root/phpESP/tmp, but when I try to access it gives me a Permission Denied error. I have set all permissions to 777 to see if it will work. I can not even ftp the file back to my local computer. The file is there but I have no access. Thank you again. sl...@at... |

Hi all I just started using phpESP 1.4 - impressive stuff. I want to localize it to danish. Therefore I edited the .ini to: <codestart> /** * Choose the default language and locale path here. */ $lang =3D 'da'; $locale_path =3D '/path/phpESP/locale'; </codestart> But the pages are still shown in English. The $locale_path is the the pat= h for the directory with the subdirs for each language (including danish as 'da') What did I miss? (I have phpESP installed on a webhotel, so I can't change all server-rela= ted settings...) Kind Regards S=F8ren |

To customize the look of the survey, you'll need to embed the survey in a page of your own. Hi, I installed phpESP and it seems to work just fine, once I got it right. One thing which I would like to change though, is that the next question follows without a blank line after the previous questions answers. I would like to change that. Could anyone point me to the right file to change this? And also would it be possible to design the page a bit (logo at the beginning, etc...)? Best I wrap the survey in my own page then, isn't it? Hi. I am running phpESP 1.3.x and have a question/comment on how it handles missing values. I collect a lot of Likert data using radio buttons and was wondering why the scales are calibrated starting at 0 in the source code? When I look at the CSV export it means that I have to shift everything, which is not that big a deal. The problem is that when a person skips an answer it looks like it is inserting a 0 in the field to indicate a missing value. This leads to obvious problems when it comes to analysis. Many of the items are not required, so it is difficult to distinguish between a blank answer and someone who answered with the first radio button. I'm sorry if I missed something obvious in the docs. I think that this is a great project and just want to suggest and edge that could be smoothed. Cheers, --chris /////\\\\\/////\\\\\ Christopher G. A better solution would be to load the gettext.dll extension in your php.ini (if you have it). Otherwise: On Wed, 15 May 2002, Joe Leary wrote: > //if(!ini_get('safe_mode') && > // (extension_loaded('gettext') || dl('gettext.so'))) { > // if(!empty($HTTP_SERVER_VARS['HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE'])) { > // $langs = split(" *, *", $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE']); > // foreach($langs as $lang) { > // $lang = quotemeta($lang); > // if(file_exists("$locale_path/$lang")) { > // break; > // } > // } > // } > putenv("LC_ALL=$lang"); > bindtextdomain('messages', $locale_path); > textdomain('messages'); > //} else if(!defined('_GETTEXT')) { ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ if (!defined('_GETTEXT')) { > define('_GETTEXT',TRUE); > > function _($s) {return($s);} > function bindtextdomain($s) {} > function textdomain($s) {} > > //} ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ } I hope that is clear, but I don't feel like reformatting all that code above. :-) -James |

I have installed the phpESP software on my machine (W2K, Apache 1.3.24, PHP 4.2.0, MySQL). Followed all the install directions. When I tried to load the manage page I would get a blank page (only a few lines of HTML code). Figuring something was going on with PHP, I turned on the display_errors paramater in the php.ini file. When I did this, I got the following error: Fatal error: dl() is not supported in multithreaded Web servers - use extension statements in your php.ini in d:\apps\apache\htdocs\phpESP\admin\phpESP.ini on line 24 Based on some of the info in the archive, I had to comment out the following lines in the phpESP.ini file: //if(!ini_get('safe_mode') && // (extension_loaded('gettext') || dl('gettext.so'))) { // if(!empty($HTTP_SERVER_VARS['HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE'])) { // $langs = split(" *, *", $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE']); // foreach($langs as $lang) { // $lang = quotemeta($lang); // if(file_exists("$locale_path/$lang")) { // break; // } // } // } putenv("LC_ALL=$lang"); bindtextdomain('messages', $locale_path); textdomain('messages'); //} else if(!defined('_GETTEXT')) { define('_GETTEXT',TRUE); function _($s) {return($s);} function bindtextdomain($s) {} function textdomain($s) {} //} I can now bring up the manage page, and work with surveys. However, when I try to test the survey I get the following error: Fatal error: Cannot redeclare _() (previously declared in d:\apps\apache\htdocs\phpESP\admin\phpESP.ini:40) in d:\apps\apache\htdocs\phpESP\admin\phpESP.ini on line 40 I am not sure where this is coming from. Any ideas? Joe |

Check the spelling of arrary_intersect(). status.inc had several typos relating to that function that have been fixed in current CVS and will be in the next release.
