Hello all, I just want to start by saying what an awesome set of scripts these = are and how grateful my company is to have been able to use them. I got = a great amount of help from the user groups (under the alias "Unix = Newbie") and I would like to possibly give something back. The survey that was needed by my company was huge, 300 questions long, = it was a exam based survey full of free form text answers and other such = things. Well, everything worked fine, but the csv file output. Due to = users using quotation marks and commas in their free form text the file = had all kinds of troubles with excel. Also because the file had more = than 256 columnes some data as getting lost (excel can only use 256 = colums per workbook). Well to fix this I wrote a pretty basic perl = script that will strip out the problematic quotations, and spilt files = with more than 256 columns into two. Its a pretty easy to use script and = I wanted to make it available should anybody be running into the same = problem I did. Its free for you to use any way you please. You can download it from = http://homepage.mac.com/kent9646/FileSharing1.html. I plan on making = additions to it to handle diffent file types and making it easier to use = but here it is for now, and you are welcome to it if it can help you! =20 Terry. |

I am sorry to admit that this message is my responsibility. The reason is when wanting to subscribe to the list that evening, on the subscription page I mistook the first address that came up for the address to subscribe to the list. I should have waited till the next morning, some sleep would have prevented that error. I appologize to all for the inconvenience. Thus the standard footer added by sourceforge - I think it is understandable that sourceforge has to finance its services to the open source community by advertisement - seemed strangely enlarged, even if it was still no more than a footer. All my regards to the people that made possible this interesting tool, I hope my next contribution will be more valuable. We typically have dozens of surveys running at any one time and found it useful to get a quick summary of responses per survey on the 'View Survey Results' page. I put this patch into v1.3 but forgot to send it to mailing list. Here's an updated patch for v1.4 if anyone is interested. It simply adds an extra column ('Resp') of total responses for each survey after 'Owner' and 'Group'. That was a bug in the 1.4 release. It has been fixed in the development version (CVS tree). You can get the latest revision of espresponse.inc from: http://phpesp.sf.net/cvs/admin/include/lib/espresponse.inc (download the revision at the top of the page). -James On Tue, 9 Jul 2002, Gary Ashton-Jones wrote: > I get lots of lines like the following in my browser when I try to use > the 'Export data to CSV' option. I think you actually need "gnu_gettext.dll" (look for this file or something similar on your computer and use that name). Also if you use the backslash in a double quoted string you'll have to escape it. "C:\\phpesp" vs 'C:\phpesp' As for entirely blank pages, this is normally the result of Apache crashing. From what I have heard, this is most likely from PHP trying to load an extension (in this case gettext). You could try commenting out the command that tries to load it. Also check the Apache log files to see if there is anything there. Please post another message if you get things working, I'd like to know the details so that Windows won't continue to be a problem. :-/ -James On Sun, 7 Jul 2002, Trey Sizemore wrote: > I am having trouble installing on my Windows XP machine. I am having trouble installing on my Windows XP machine. I am using Apache, PHP4.2.x, and MySQL 3.x which are in good working order. I have followed the directions included in the README file with the exception of the file paths. As it was written from a *nix perspective, I substituted C:\phpesp in any script where the [install-root] would go (ie Usr/local/lib/php/contrib./phpESP). I also, per an earlier posting I saw changed the references of gettext.so to gettext.dll. My database has been established and the tables look to be imported OK. However, when I load the admin site (the renamed manage.php) in my browser, the page is entirely blank.no error messages, page not found, or anything. HELP! Thanks, Trey |

Dear all I was having difficulty getting the N/A function to work for question type "Rate (Scale 1..5)" After some digging around I figured out that to get it to work you have to enter -1 into the precision field!! What I suggest is that the HELP file help.inc line 83 should be changed to: <tr><td>Rate</td><td>1..N</td><td>Use -1</td></tr> Cheers Nick Ananin 12/06/2002 21:49:23, "James E. When someone is registered on the portal they can access and fill in the survey and once they complete it they can view the results. I have it set up so that visitors have to register before they can access the site. The example is still under construction but you are welcome to log in (http://rgu- sim.rgu.ac.uk/research/intranet/portal ). Once you log in you can try out the Test survey (the links are in the left hand panel). Porting phpESP into myphpnuke is not difficult but I had to make a few changes to phpESP. Basically the cookies used by myphpnuke are decoded and the username (or nickname) is the information which is entered into the "Response" table for phpESP. That way you can have code which checks if the person filling in the survey is a registered on the portal, they can only fill in the survey once and they can only view the results once they have filled in the survey. If anyone is using myphpnuke I can let you have copies of my code and also the changes I made to the phpESP pages. Hello Martin et al Yes the portal system I use is myphpnuke. As something of a follow up to my earlier suggestion (or maybe bug report) on the handling of missing values with radio buttons, it dawned on me that it would be nice to be able to configure a default value for fields missing values. I have not tested it myself, so I do not know how different field types handle missing values when a form is stored. It would be nice to be able to tell the program to use "*" or "-" or whatever so that all fields left empty by the respondent would have the same value in the exported data. I know that it would have saved me a great deal of time on a recent project when it came time to clean up the data set for analysis. Thanks much for listening. --chris /////\\\\\/////\\\\\ Christopher G. Hi I implemented cookies/cookie decoding by integrating phpESP into a portal (I use MyphpNuke). When someone is registered on the portal they can access and fill in the survey and once they complete it they can view the results. The php coding I used also recognises if they have already filled in the survey so they can only fill it in once. Hi, Is there a way to get rid of the hundreds of lines of strange microsoft formated E-mail from the digests? Thanks, Mickey |

There is the sourceforge bug/request tracker, that has some partially useful information. The best place to look is the phpesp-devel mailing list, but the archives are broken (empty). Feel free to join that list though. -James |

I was looking at the TODO list and saw some interesting things. Just wondering if there is a time table of when these might be completed or if anyone is even working on them yet. Specifically: Sub-question Forked surveys Results/Analysis stuff. I downloaded the latest release and saw that the Theme stuff is already in there which is kewl. Is there anywhere on the phpesp site that shows what has been completed, what is being worked on, and what needs volunteers to take a crack at. Regards. |

I see in the code there is a reference to a variable named = =93thank_url=94. There is also field in the survey table called =93thanks_page=94 =20 Are these actually set anywhere? Is there a way to get the survey to go to a specified page after it has been completed? =20 =20 Regards |
