We defined the following behaviour: The check for the available questions on a survey page is a good thing and so we let it. But we insert records into the database only, if the user really specified an answer. The CVS-Source inserted in the case of no answer to a radio or rank question a "default" value (0). This behaviour got eliminated. Possibly this behaviour could collide with result output btw. export. We tested our patch with Apache jmeter. Do you proceed Unit-Tests on the app? Excel import works fine for me. What problems are you seeing with it? A patch for the "correction of saving behavior" would be wonderful. Could you send that patch to me? Put this PHP script somewhere on the server and see > what it tells you: > http://phpesp.sf.net/files/status.php.txt >=20 > -James" >=20 This problem we had, too. So I wrote an own implementation, that covers the gettext-features. I use a script at "compile" time to parse the binary gettext file (.mo) and put the translation hash into a php-serialized assoziative array. On the target system this file gets used instead of the gettext-extension.=20 Performance issues let us implement a caching behaviour for the map in shared memory (IPC). I'm not sure, if this works under all platforms, but it reduces the response times up to 15 ms. If you are interested in these sources, you are welcome. We made other patches for the cvs-version of phpESP. available are: - correction of saving behaviour in espresponse.inc. Only answered questions get persisted in the database. (problematic were radio and rank widgets) - new kind of respondent authentication based on a single mantra instead of the username/password BASIC-Auth. We also found some problems, we didn't solve yet: Does the export to csv feature work for you, so that you can import the created file into MS Excel? Openoffice doesn't make problems, Excel yes. A less important request: isn't it nice to configure the Exit-Link at the last page of the survey-rendering in the Management-Interface? Because we want our respondents to answer once, the "Back to Start"-Link isn't very senseful. Thanks for the great project. Greetings Lars Herrmann |

IIS is not supported (or tested for that matter). Your best bet is to install Apache. I suppose if you want to try to get it working with IIS, you should start by finding out where IIS keeps a log file, and looking there for errors. Also make sure you did all the steps in the README. -James On Fri, 23 Aug 2002, Reising, Sergio Alexander wrote: > I just installed phpesp on a Win2K server w/ IIS5 (because that's what we > have at work). It looks like phpESP can't find your phpESP.ini config file. You need to edit manage.php, handler-prefix.php, handler.php and survey.php to point to your phpESP.ini. See the README for more information. Hi! This problem was discussed a couple of month ago. Here is the mail I refer to: "On Sun, 19 May 2002, Søren Thing Pedersen wrote: > Hi all > > I just started using phpESP 1.4 - impressive stuff. > > I want to localize it to danish. Therefore I edited the .ini to: > > > /** > * Choose the default language and locale path here. > */ > $lang = 'da'; > $locale_path = '/path/phpESP/locale'; > > > But the pages are still shown in English. Check and see if the language preferences in your browser are something other than danish (i.e. english). Another problem could be that the hosting service you are using does not have the GNU Gettext extension loaded for PHP. Put this PHP script somewhere on the server and see what it tells you: http://phpesp.sf.net/files/status.php.txt -James" I have this problem actually too. I want to change the language to german (de), but it doesn't work. I also tried the file postet above. Here is the result: cwd: c:\programme\apache group\apache\htdocs\software safe_mode: off open_basedir: mysql: loaded gettext: loaded browser languages: de Have somebody an idea how to solve this problem? It's important for me that phpESP can be run in german language. Thanx Matthias Büker |

Hi All, Love the app - keep up the good work. I am having trouble with question numbering. I have a survey with 1 question per section (page). I wanted to have text at the start of the survey and nowhere else - so I added a section text to the start of section 1. [The problem] The first actual question is displayed correctly as question 1 but subsequent sections don't take into account the section text thus the second question is labelled question 3!?! Any suggestions? Cheers, Marshall |

(1) Can I supress question numbers? (2) In a question like below, how can I get the answer box to follow the question on the same line as the question? How many people? <<Box here>> (3) In a ranking (1-5) question, can I make it 1-4 instead? It is customary not to have an odd number of ways for people to respond to surveys they will always gravitate to the middle number. I appreciate any information! Thanks! Here's a patch to add a dummy result at the end of the merged surveys report which gives the breakdown of how many responses came from each survey in the list for merging. It's not very pretty but some people might find it useful. diff survey_merge.inc survey_merge.inc.orig 107,132d106 < //output dummy question containing responses per survey in $sidstr < $scounts = array(); < $sql = "SELECT S.name, count(*) FROM response R, survey S < WHERE R.survey_id ${sidstr} AND R.complete='Y' < AND R.survey_id = S.id group by R.survey_id order by S.name"; < $result = mysql_query($sql); < while(list($text,$count) = mysql_fetch_row($result)) { < $scounts[$text] = $count; < } < mysql_free_result($result); < ++$q; < < if($bg != '#eeeeee') $bg = '#eeeeee'; < else $bg = '#ffffff'; < ?> < <tr xbgcolor="<?php echo($bg); ?>"> < <td> < <A NAME="Q<?php echo($q); ?>"><?php echo($q); ?>.</A> < <?php echo('Survey source'); ?> < < <blockquote> < <?php mkrespercent($scounts,$total,$precision,$showTotals); ?> < </blockquote> < </td> < </tr> < <?php James E. A couple of bugs in survey_merge.inc. (Is this a tricky way to get modules tested?<grin>) One is that the $showTotals variable needs to have a local copy inside the question loop. The other is that the count response_single query needs to include the question_id. Here's the patches: diff survey_merge.inc survey_merge.inc.orig 147d146 < $localTotals = $showTotals; 171c170 < $localTotals = 0; --- > $showTotals = 0; 208d206 < A.question_id ${qidstr} AND 345c343 < mkrespercent($counts,$total,$precision,$localTotals); --- > mkrespercent($counts,$total,$precision,$showTotals); 348c346 < mkresrank($counts,$total,$precision,$localTotals); --- > mkresrank($counts,$total,$precision,$showTotals); 351c349 < mkrescount($counts,$total,$precision,$localTotals); --- > mkrescount($counts,$total,$precision,$showTotals); 354c352 < mkreslist($counts,$total,$precision,$localTotals); --- > mkreslist($counts,$total,$precision,$showTotals); 357c355 < mkresavg($counts,$total,$precision,$localTotals,0); --- > mkresavg($counts,$total,$precision,$showTotals,0); James E.
