All green. I realize that PHP 5 isn't supported, but beyond the fact  
that I can't login to the management interface, it appears everything  
is running OK. If I have to return to PHP 4 to get it to work I will,

it doesn't like PHP 4. (mySQL 4.1 I believe).

No, I have not upgraded to 4.1 but just installed this version. And I 
can connect to the DB using the same user/password/host. I executed the 
scripts that came with phpESP, and these created the db and tables.

So, which version of mysql is works with phpesp without problems? Or is 
there a solution to this problem? I just tried to grant the phpesp-user 
more rights for mysql, but this did not solve the problem.

After an initial install of phpESP, (with mysql and php previously  
functioning well on this server) I get a login window when I try to  
go to /phpESP (it tries to pull up the management interface) and I  
can't login with root & esp, it says that the login is incorrect. If  
I disable authentication in phpESP.ini.php for the management  
interface it lets me get to the main phpESP page but if I click any  
of the links it loops to that same page after adding such things as  
where?=new to the manage.php URL. Am I missing something? I followed  
the install file to the letter.

[phpesp-general] Problem installing phpESP

Hello,

I downloaded phpESP and tried to install it on my computer for testing 
purpose. To install it, I followed the instruction in the install-file. 
But every time I try to start phpESP, I get this error message in my 
browser:

HTTP 503 Service Unavailable
[ Connection to database failed. Please check configuration. ]

So, I tracked the problem down to these lines in the config file:

$ESPCONFIG['db_host'] = 'localhost';
$ESPCONFIG['db_user'] = 'myuser';
$ESPCONFIG['db_pass'] = 'mypassword';
$ESPCONFIG['db_name'] = 'phpesp';

The connection information for MySQL are correct and do work, but I 
don't know what to enter for ADODB!

Just for your complete information: I'm running Apache 1.3, PHP 4.3.10 
and MySQL 4.1 .

[phpesp-general] Problems with "results"

I am testing my survey (50 questions).  When I review the results, I can 
see the response number tabulated but I do not get any results with 
questions using the pull down menu or radio buttons.  Yes/No questions 
works ok but the others do not.

I wanted to do the same thing, i.e., add the ability to have labels for
the rating scales (aka Likert scales).  Unlike what Don shows in his
post, I tend to see the labels (whether for just the extremes or each
rating) above the values: like this:

            Unfamiliar          Familiar
            -3   -2   -1   0   1   2   3
             o    o    o   o   o   o   o

In a survey project by committee (ugh!), I had to find a way to have
scale labels.  Although I love phpESP, after I looked through the tables
and code, I decided it was easier to go with UCCASS instead of phpESP,
even though I had to hack UCCASS a little bit to do other things that I
like in phpESP (especially user management and the type of support for
rating scale questions).

I would be very grateful if rating scale labels could be added to
phpESP.

I have a need to either modify the rating type question or add some new
code so that the survey I am building presents the choices in a certain
format and headings.  For instance I need the question to put a word
before and after the choices and control the headings above each radio
button choice. The result would look like below.

           -3   -2   -1   0   1   2   3
unfamiliar  o    o    o   o   o   o   o  familiar


I have not coded in php although have used other languages in the past.
I am not sure how this system is designed to work so need some help with
how to modify it to get the rating type question to look like the above
example.  Any help would be appreciated.

[phpesp-general] Cannot get to the questions tab

I have installed the latest build today, but when I try to create a new
survey and move to the next section "Questions" I cannot get to it. It
continually reloads the first page. If I try to skip over that tab and
go to the "Order" tab I get to that page just fine. Everything seems to
work, except the Questions Tab. I checked my test.php page and the
numbers increment just fine. Not sure where else to start or look.

By default all surveys are open.  You have to do some work to make them
private.

[phpesp-general] Public Survey's - New user ?

I've been asked to do a couple of survey's for an
educational non-profit that I deal with and while I
see quite a bit about private/invited member survey's
I don't  (or maybe should say haven't yet) found any
info on creating an "open" or general survey.

Am I just looking in the wrong place or have I
overlooked it in the documentation?

The 30 sec. limit is a PHP setting.  Check your php.ini to bump the
limit up if needed.  However, you shouldn't have hit a 30 second limit
with just 2 responses?

[phpesp-general] Error in a download request

Hello,
   Our phpESP 1.6.1 has been serving a small number of developers for 
several months. Yesterday a new experience was encountered. A new survey was 
activated and after two test responses an attempt to download the data 
(Export Data to CSV) responded with:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in 
.../admin/include/function/survey_export_csv.inc on line 112

Anyone familiar with the cause of this message and a resolution?

Not sure what you are doing, but this message typically appears
when you have not specified the name of the survey in the URL:

http://www.foo.org/phpESP/public/survey.php?name=

'name=' should be 'name=YourSurveyNameHEre'

Hi everybody, 

Are there anybody know to fix "[ Error processing
survey: Survey not specified. ]" error. 

I tried everything but I could not fix it. I am using
PHPNuke 7.5 with PHPesp.

Would you please help to me?

We have experienced this problem in other applications. I think the 
problem is discussed in this Microsoft posting:

To solve the problem, we use the following headers to deliver files to 
users:

             header("Content-Type: $mime");
             header("Cache-Control: post-check=999, pre-check=999");
             header("Pragma: cache");
             header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename={$name}");
             header("Content-Length: ".strlen($data));

.. where $mime is the mime type of the file, $name is the file's name, 
and $data is the content of the file. Hope this helps.

[phpesp-general] phpESP 1.7.2 and SSL

Hello,
   We have installed 1.7.2 and implemented SSL use. All works well except 
the download of a CSV file of responses. From Internet Explorer 6.0 I 
receive the messages:

"Internet Explorer cannot download ...header& ..."

"Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested 
site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

Has anyone else encountered this response and discovered a resolution?
