The most probably cause for your problem is that you're running PHP5. See the mailing list/bug list for PHP5 related problems. Can you downgrade to PHP4? Hello I have installed and configured phpESP that is working good. I have the administration pages in french (which is good since I'm french), but when I send a link to our customers to fill a survey, they see the "questions marked with *..." in english, also "other" and "submit..." All in english How to set them to french? Thanks David Klein |

Is it possible to export a survey, instead of using the <? include ?> state= ment? This is partially a question that deals with a forking issue. I have a survey that use sub-questions. I did find that there was a fork that dealt with that issue, but until I learn more about it, I'd like to continue with the main branch of phpESP. My thought is, if the survey code can be exported (or just copied from the generated pages, and added directly to the pages of my creation, then I could manually group the current multiple questions into a single question, so it has question 10a), 10b), 10c) etc. instead of 10, 11, 12, etc. My survey isn't closed yet, so mostly I'm wondering if the rendered HTML file, includes the necessary code that will call the proper page for submitting the survey or would I have to include additional code to insure that the survey ID is passed, and the proper processing page is called. I guess the follow-up question would be, if I do have to add additional code, what details would need to be added, and what gotchas should I be on the look-out for. I should also state, while I want to use phpESP to automate the creation of surveys, that at least for the next year or so, won't be having others create their own surveys, so I'm perfectly fine, taking the created code and adding it to a new page and manipulating it manually to get the page layouts to look and respond like I want them to. But it would be good to know if anyone else has done this, and what if any problems they may have run into. Alnisa |

Ouch this is bad. I've submitted a bug for this and will get it fixed for 1.7.5. I am using PHPESP running on Apache 1.3 on Netware. I have the program installed and it seems to be working fine. I can create a survey, and fill it in; however, the export function is not working. I click on download and it displays error on page at the bottom of the browser. I looked at my phpESP.ini.php file and there is not line that support the export function. How do I make this work? I have created several surveys and collected data using phpESP-1.6. In a separate directory I installed the latest stable release 1.7.2. On the version 1.7.2 installation I can't download data nor save data on server. Everything else works fine (view results, add users, etc.). My client browser is Firefox 1.0.6 with JavaScript enabled. I get the following error on my JavaScript Console when I click "Download": Error: exportSubmit is not defined Source File: javascript: exportSubmit('download', document.export25); When I view the source of the browser's content, I don't see exportSubmit() defined. I suppose that's the problem? If so, how do I fix it? I figured that the last part, document.export25, is for survey id 25. But the same error also appears with other survey numbers. So I guess it is not because of a particular survey. I wanted to try the latest version out before I remove the old version. The mysql database for the new installation is called esp, while the database for the old installation is called phpesp. The new esp database is an exact copy of the old (using 'mysqldump -u root -p phpesp > out.sql' and then 'mysql -u root -p esp < out.sql') I can't seem to find a warning on this problem when two versions are running in parallel. Download on the old 1.6 version works fine. Please help. Best, Yuelin Li. |

Thanks!! It does work with auto single-quoted when I reference it as a standalone web page. I can see where it can be set to create either embed-able html or a standalone web page, (and it generates a standalone web page in either case, but it's not clear how it should be referenced from another page to embed it, or whether it can be added to a survey automatically from the management interface. Sine it's a new feature, am I to assume that it hasn't been made available via the management interface? If so, I guess I'll start to dive into php. hjm On Wednesday 20 July 2005 10:46 am, Jim Brown wrote: > * Harry Mangalam <hj...@ta...> [2005-07-20 11:29]: > > I tried to use the undocumented signup.php script that allows respondents > > to make their own logins, but was unable to make it work. Hello, A researcher has identified an anomaly in a Rate item where the respondent makes choices, Saves the survey, returns to complete the survey and discovers their previous selections have been altered. To recreate the problem: 1. Create a survey with one question, a Rate item. Select a Length of 3 (3 columns or choices) and select Precision of 1 to get N/A as a fourth column. Enter 5 answer lines. 2. Change the access to Private. In the Survey Access page select the survey and add a group with the Save/Restore option selected. Add a respondent. 3. Activate the survey and prepare to enter responses. Fill in the survey by selecting columns (rates) 1, 2 and 3. Select Save. Select Resume Survey. In release 1.6 the returned survey has rate 1 redefined as N/A. In release 1.7 all three choices are now set to 2. In both cases the original choices are altered. .../neil patterson |

Yup, current ESP is in no way W3C compliant. Versions beyond 1.7.5 hope to fix that. Well, I have not received any replies, but i wanted to give a status report for the archives - especially since it seems that phpESP uses an invalid naming convention for input tags. 1 - I could not find a way to do this in phpESP. Fine. 2 - I decided to use javascript, have the first question ask the user where they came from and have the javascript autofillin the answer (which the user could always change). Sound workable 3 - Found that phpESP seems to use an invalid naming convention for its input tags. All input fields in the survey begin with numerals. According to http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/types.html#h-6.2 "ID and NAME tokens must begin with a letter ([A-Za-z]) and may be followed by any number of letters, digits ([0-9]), hyphens ("-"), underscores ("_"), colons (":"), and periods (".")." As a result, the javascript I tried fails. 4 - I will be trying to modify the code to add an ID to the input tags, just so I can modify and use them for the javascript. Have fun. -Spode At 6:29 PM +0800 7/19/05, Edward Spodick wrote: >Good morning (or evening for some). I have phpESP set up and working well. I tried to use the undocumented signup.php script that allows respondents to make their own logins, but was unable to make it work. After correcting the missing paren, it further complained about the 'auto' designation in the realm field. The insert statement was: INSERT INTO respondent (username, password, email, fname, lname, realm) VALUES ('tacg',PASSWORD('baba'),'hj...@ta...','Harry ','Mangalam',auto) and the response was: Request failed, please choose a different username.[ 1054: Unknown column 'auto' in 'field list' ] At this point I don't know what the problem is. Good morning (or evening for some). I have phpESP set up and working well. But there is something I want to do which I cannot figure out. We have about 5-75 similar web pages which function as subject guides. I plan to provide a link from each of then (using a banner ssi file) to a single survey in phpESP. Ideally, I would like to have the identify of the page they came from included in the survey results, rather than asking them to enter it. So I am trying to figure out some way to incorporate the HTTP_REFERER variable as a default answer for a question. But I have not been able to determine any way to do this within phpESP. I am not sure this got sent to the list (i never got a copy), when I posted it before, so I am resending it, apologies if it's a dup. I am trying to setup phpesp. I have mysql permisisons at my isp but do not have permissions to create a new database however I can create tables in my own database.which they have assigned to me. Looking at the mysql_create script presumably I can chnage things to use my database instead of phpesp. But it then adds a user to the mysql database.... Any way I can make this work? Thanks, Tom. |

I have a phpESP survey with some numeric fields. If a respondent enters commas in the numeric field (for example, to separate thousands) the response is truncated after the first comma. Is this behavior due to mySQL or to phpESP? If phpESP, perhaps it could be corrected? Is there an easy way to correct it (other than editing the survey to make all numeric fields text fields)? Have set up a test survey and am trying to test it remotely - I mostly can but there's a funny behavior in that at each submission, phpesp asks me to log in again before it gives me the next page - it seems as tho it's not keeping a session open for me. Also, it does not allow me to submit the survey. At that point it gives me the infamous [ Incorrect User ID or Password, or your account has been disabled/expired. ] (but allows me to log in again using the same login/pass and again takes me to the untouched test survey. -- Cheers, Harry Harry J Mangalam - 949 856 2847 (vox; email for fax) - hj...@ta... <<plain text preferred>> |
