is it me, or are do the image files look strange in CVS? I mean the files themselves, not the HTML which displays them. |

Hey Kon, Cross analysis is broken, it's probably my fault. I was fixing some bogons and trying to clean up stuff. It works if I do it the old way, by sticking junk on the end of the url, but not with the nice GUI you built. I plan to look at it soon and fix whatever I broke, but wanted to let you know. So anyone who uses that page should hold off on a "cvs up" for the moment, unless they want to fix it. ;-) -James |

Currently, a choice like "!other=foo", will show up on a survey as something like: o foo [___xyz____] but in the results as: foo: xyz o============o In other words, we append a semicolon, ":", to the end of the "other_text" in some places but not others. I think it should be consistent throughout. I'm inclined to omit the semicolon, that leaves it up to the survey designer. Any other opinions? -James |

Hey. Just so everyone knows, bug reports made on the web-site are forwarded to the -devel list, but the relationship is one way. It's fine to discuss bugs etc here, but remember that they won't be appended to the "real" bug report on the sf.net tracker. This also means that the bug submitter may not see the discussion, unless they are on the devel list. So for feed back to the submitter, please use the web site. I should have made this announcement back when I set up the bug report forwarding, oh well. The day will come when I get fed up with the inadequacies of sourceforge and move this project elsewhere. -James |

I believe it does support this by setting your survey to private, choosing a group, and maxlogins to 1. This makes the survey private and only one submission by those respondents in that group. Here's how you do it. In the management menu choose : Change Access To a Survey Now Make the survey private at the far right column. Now Select the survey name link on the far left column. This brings up the survey Access screen. Select the Group and max logins to 1 (or whatever number you want to limit submissions) at the bottom and click Add. This survey is now limited to the group you selected and can only be submitted by members of that group "max Login" times. chad. Dugal (jpd2) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Unanswered required question handling Initial Comment: I've installed phpESP-1.5 under Solaris 8, Apache 2.0.43 and PHP 4.2.3. I have built a small survey and it's working fine, except for one small anomaly: if I omit filling in a required question, I get a survey form back that includes a message about the missing questions. The problem is that the form does not have any of the answers indicated for the subset of questions that I did answer. This seems to occur because I have register_globals=Off in php.ini. The esphtml.forms.inc file has comments indicating 'needs register_globals = on' for setting the 'checked' html option. Is this desirable behaviour, in light of the recommendations in php.ini to leave register_globals set to Off? I suggest that if it is indeed a requirement to use register_globals=On for replaying the answered questions properly, then if register_globals is Off, just the missing question texts be displayed, followed by a directive to press the BACK button and resubmit. Something like this change might help (it still leaves the "Submit Survey" or "Next Page" button displayed ... so handler.php needs more work too to make this change viable. Comments, anyone? *** phpESP-1.5/admin/include/function/survey_render.inc~ Wed Sep 11 11:52:29 2002 --- phpESP-1.5/admin/include/function/survey_render.inc Fri Nov 22 18:09:01 2002 *************** *** 64,70 **** <font size="-1"><?php echo(_('Page')); ?> <?php echo($section+1); ?> <?php echo(_('of')); ?> <?php echo($num_sections); ?></font> <?php } ?> <blockquote class="addInfo"><?php echo($survey["info"]); ?></blockquote> ! <blockquote class="message"><?php echo($message); ?></blockquote> <?php if($has_required) { ?> <p class="reqQuestion"><font size="-1"><?php echo(_('Questions marked with a')); ?> <font color="#FF0000">*</font> <?php echo(_('are required.')); ?></font></p> --- 64,78 ---- <font size="-1"><?php echo(_('Page')); ?> <?php echo($section+1); ?> <?php echo(_('of')); ?> <?php echo($num_sections); ?></font> <?php } ?> <blockquote class="addInfo"><?php echo($survey["info"]); ?></blockquote> ! <blockquote class="message"><?php echo($message); ! /* if we can't fill in the responses (because register_globals=Off) ! then we advise pressing the Back button, rather than to replay ! all the questions unanswered - jp...@lo... ! */ ! if(!empty($message) && !ini_get('register_globals')) { ! echo ("Press your Back button to resume."); ! return; ! } ?></blockquote> <?php if($has_required) { ?> <p class="reqQuestion"><font size="-1"><?php echo(_('Questions marked with a')); ?> <font color="#FF0000">*</font> <?php echo(_('are required.')); ?></font></p> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: James Flemer (jimmerman) Date: 2003-02-19 13:34 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=39444 Fixed in CVS. phpESP is no longer dependant on the setting of register globals. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: rebecca swartz (bekasu) Date: 2003-02-18 16:06 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=634106 I ran into the same problem when I developed the code for a new question type 'Constant Sum'; however, Kon was busy with the branching coding and I already had code changes in the queue so I let it go. 'Constant Sum' allows the user to fill in amounts in fields until they add up to the total required (e.g., spread 25% points across the following 5 options ...). If the total adds up to more or less than the 25% points it errors, however, when the form redisplays everything is zeroed out & you only get 1 error message. If we continue down this path of mutiple errors, we should probably pursue tabling up the errors into an array and pushing that through the error handling module while retaining the form values in another temporary array for redisplay. I've been phpnuking for awhile so will have to get my mind back around ESP to remember my issues with error handling. I don't want to run with globals=On. ! */ ! if(!empty($message) && !ini_get('register_globals')) { ! echo ("Press your Back button to resume."); ! return; ! } ?></blockquote> <?php if($has_required) { ?> <p class="reqQuestion"><font size="-1"><?php echo(_('Questions marked with a')); ?> <font color="#FF0000">*</font> <?php echo(_('are required.')); ?></font></p> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: rebecca swartz (bekasu) Date: 2003-02-18 21:06 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=634106 I ran into the same problem when I developed the code for a new question type 'Constant Sum'; however, Kon was busy with the branching coding and I already had code changes in the queue so I let it go. Dugal (jpd2) Date: 2002-12-03 21:04 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=609168 I found the easiest way to avoid putting a 'Submit Survey' or 'Next Page' button when we wish to have the survey taker press their Back button, is to invoke render_survey() as a function, and test the return value. I attach a context- diff file of modifications to three routines to solve theissue I raised. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=108956&aid=644337&group_id=8956 |

However, I'm waiting on some code changes I submitted to be incorporated into phpesp (some new question types as well as changes to make phpesp HTML compliant). Let me know how to contact you and I'll send my phpnuke/esp changes to you when I get to that point. FYI: I usually try not to hardcode phpnuke, rather I set up a new table that has the info in it I need to feed to addons & modules, so my solution may look different than you expect. Makes the upgrades for phpnuke easier if customization is minimized. Hello All, I have sent this out here, for I feel this would be the logical place to = find developers already familiar with phpESP, to use this excellent program as a stepping stone for our = development efforts. My apologies if its felt that this is not the appropriate list to do this. PhpESP has = most of what we need, or is in the process of developing it. But our needs are pretty specific. To be = exact, we need: respondent groups - similar to the private survey, but we need the = ability to add a list of individuals who are authorized to respond to an individuals survey, and allow the individual themselves = to be added to others. - i.e., groups within the current groups. each respondent group would have a different password, and the = respondent should be able to choose their name from a dropdown list or similar feature when logging in. All respondent = groups would be tied under one primary group, with the ability to have multiple primary groups corresponding to different = companies, branches, etc. We would also require an easier means to customize the look of the = program or modify it to suit the main site. The CSS method for individual surveys available now works just fine, just want = the overall admin interface changed to match our needs. Our current host is using Plesk PSA 5.0, so any modifications would have = to be compatible with that automated server administration program. =20 If the individual being surveyed wants to see the results of thier = survey, data should be displayed as "self" & "others" with appropriate graphics (I know this is in development to add spider charts, etc, and = that's what we need) or display a summary report of the entire group with all respondent groups aggregated data. Eventually, we would = like the survey results to be generated into a PDF file and either displayed online or e-mailed to the surveyee. The graphing = portion needs to have the ability to group questions from an individual survey for compilation into the various graphs. Basically, my = assumption would be to do this, there would have to be two data = collection tables, a temp and the aggregate data table for the entire group. An = individual would be able to retrieve their own data until a certain = date, at that time the respondent group tables are cleared and all data is = collectively added to the primary group data for generating a comprehensive report of the entire group. Whatever way there might be to = make both the entire group and the individual respondent groups data available for graphing, that's what we would like. As you may be able to see by now, we're trying to develop an online 360 = performance appraisal/feedback system. We are searching for a developer who can modify the existing phpESP = program to incorporate our needs above. The manual methods we currently use are too labor intensive, but the ASP = solutions that offer the capabilities we need are prohibitively expensive considering the core functionality is here = within phpESP. We are looking for developer/s who are willing to take on this project, an estimate of costs and a = representative sampling of similar work. We're not looking for "Script Kiddies", we need a seasoned developer who = can work under and be paid through legitimate timelines and project milestones, and can output = quality documented work. We felt we would send this out to the developer base of phpESP before we solicited bids = through other freelance programmer venues. I appreciate all your developers time, and look forward to corresponding = with someone who feels they can tackle our project for us.
