Hey Developers, I've implemented a phpESP System Test and Information script. If you've used Horde code before it should look familiar. You can take a look at it on the sf.net demo[1], and look at the code in CVS[2]. I tried to add lines for every knob and twiddle that has/could cause problems for phpESP. Please let me know if there are any other things we should test. Also, if someone feels like it, it would be nice to add a bit of <style> to the header so that the fonts would be a tad smaller (-1). [1] http://phpesp.sf.net/demo-current/admin/test.php [2] http://phpesp.sf.net/cvs/admin/test.php?rev=. Oh, and the things that fail on sf.net do so correctly. And yes, sessions are broken on sf.net (though I've implemented a work around for both demos, but not the test script.) -James |

It will be there by 1.6 Final. The test.php page is still missing in the 1.6 releases, although it is mentioned in the installation procedure. K. -- 5. Testing phpESP Once you have configured your web server, PHP, and phpESP, bring up the included test page in your Web browser to ensure that all necessary prerequisites have been met. If you installed phpESP as described above, the URL to the test page would be http://your-server/phpESP/admin/test.php Check that your PHP and PEAR versions are acceptably recent, and that all required module capabilities are present. Then note the "Session counter: 1" line under "PHP Sessions", and reload the page. The session counter should increment. |

There is a psychological effect on people to influence the human mind to read from top to bottom. This means in a multiple question for instance, the top codes will most likely have a "bias" to be more clicked in rather than low response codes (top would mean higher up on the screen). So what should be done here is the option of having a randomisation box so question get's randomised. Also important here is that some items must be able to be kept in bottom such as "None of the above" or "Refuse to Answer" or "don't know". So here as in the other request there would be a need for a "no control" of certain items, or should it be called "not randomised"? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Klaas Chielens (haaid) Date: 2003-03-03 23:21 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=718716 well; it would change the result exactly because of the fact that this laziness only kicks in after a couple of questions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2002-07-06 10:31 Message: Logged In: NO Any researcher knows that the first questions you ask in a survey tend to get "higher quality" than questions asked later in the questionnaire. The more questions you push someone to answer, the more it effects the quality... So why do you randomise then? Let's say you have 5 different questions to benchmark a product on different variables that might interfer. On a phone for instance that would be perhaps batteries, design, size, functionality.... If they are not randomised and you do a regression analysis afterwards, the values will be messed up. However if you do randomisation, you know that the bias will be equal on all of the questions asked and you can therefor make a more correct analysis. Would that answer your question? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Kon Angelopoulos (angek) Date: 2002-06-26 13:10 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=198398 so what you're saying is that people are too lazy to read the options and tend to just tick/select the uppermost choices. If that's the case, how does randomising the choices to a question solve anything? I was unable to get our Basic Auth to work on IIS, even using PHP as an ISAPI module. Knowing that other projects had solved this, I went hunting and grabbed some code from phpMyAdmin. So I've attached a new manage.php which works on IIS. It is a bit of a hack, but it demonstrates that this is plausible. I'm hoping that someone takes this example and submits a more elegant implementation for CVS consideration. Search for the string IIS to see what I've added. FYI, the file from phpMyAdmin which served as a model is at http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/phpmyadmin/phpMyAdmin/libraries/auth/http.auth.lib.php3?rev=1.9&content-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup |

There was a bug in phpESP version 1.6 RC1 that caused the results of mulit-page surveys to be stored incorrectly if the new 'resume' feature was _not_ used. Please update to 1.6 RC2 immediately if you are running 1.6 RC1. See the change log for a few other changes since RC1. Thanks to Klaas Chielens <klaas AT chielens.net> for pointing out this bug. -James On Thu, 27 Feb 2003, James E. What version are you running? Check with your ISP to get the "true" file system path to your web space. Issuing the "pwd" command from a shell on the ISP might tell you. Use this path in the phpESP.ini. Also, make sure the phpESP.ini paths in: admin/manage.php public/handler.php public/handler-prefix.php public/survey.php all point to the correct location. Feature Requests item #560585, was opened at 2002-05-25 18:20 You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=358956&aid=560585&group_id=8956 Category: survey format Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: text labels for rating scale Initial Comment: the "rate" scale is static with numbers ranging from 1 to n. I would like that to be assignable so I can have text, for instance. Instead of a scale of "1 -2 -3 - 4 - 5 - N/A", I want to be able to implement a scale like: "Great - OK - Opinion Free - Not OK - Sucks - N/A" or anything else (and blank values, especially for interim points on the scale, would be acceptable). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: moshe weitzman (weitzman) Date: 2003-02-24 15:36 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=199362 Related to this RFE, I have implemented a version of Rate where tooltips are displayed when hovering over any radio button in the matrix. The data for the tooltips is currently embedded in an array in a new file. Tooltip code is provided by http://mojavelinux.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=127 If there is interest, I'd be happy to post the source for this enhancement. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: James Flemer (jimmerman) Date: 2002-07-11 11:41 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=39444 Yes, logart. That is the problem. One idea is to change the storage model for the surveys from SQL to XML, which would make this type of feature possible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Stephen Lawrence (logart) Date: 2002-07-11 11:24 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=14468 The tough part about doing this is that you would have to capture both the reponse text value, along with the numerical value. Right now, the response_rank table is set up with all INT datatypes. There would have to be anther field added to that table of type VARCHAR or something that would contain the textual meaning of the answer. You need to capture the text along with the number in case you change the text values of the ratings later on. You would then skew the data because, for example, "1" used to mean good but now "1" is bad. If you don't save the "good" or "bad" along with each record, you would never know the numbers represent. right? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=358956&aid=560585&group_id=8956 |

---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Sat, 22 Feb 2003 13:47:56 -0500 (EST) From: James E. Flemer <jf...@ac...> To: ho...@li... Subject: [horde] horde license question (docs/*) I see the Horde API/framework is licensed under the LGPL. I would like to base the docs for a project I am working for on the docs/* files in the Horde project. Mainly, I'd like to adapt the Horde INSTALL file for my project since it is so well written. I intend to include a footer on all docs files I get from the Horde project like this: ----------------------------------------------------------- This document was obtained from the Horde project, and modified for phpESP. We would like to thank the Horde project for providing such clean documentation. Due to the source, this document must be licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL). The LGPL applies *only* to this document, all other parts of phpESP are licensed under the terms in the "LICENSE" file in the main directory. A copy of the LGPL is available at: http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/lesser.txt ----------------------------------------------------------- However, I'd like to omit references to LGPL, and just state the source as from the Horde project. Would any one object to that? I will not use any code from Horde, just some of horde/docs/*. The license for phpESP can be found at: (BSD like) http://phpesp.sf.net/cvs/LICENSE?rev=.
