Unfortunately in this environment with lots of other applications tables and having non-unique table names, there is a good chance that phpESP table names will conflict with already existing table names. I would like to suggest that all tables be preceeded by 'phpESP' or some other uniqifier. Maybe even having a variable defined in manage.php allowing the user to specify what the table 'prefix' needs to be would be really nice. As it is, I'm having to edit all of the scripts to do this by hand and it is, as you might expect, a hastle. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Matthew Gregg (greggmc) Date: 2004-04-29 12:08 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=14116 This feature has been added to the CVS tree. Most likely lack of interest/resources. ESP does badly need a GUI redesign. I downloaded this patch (http://phpesp.sf.net/files/contrib/kon-new-ui.tar.gz) that Kon submitted to phpESP which implements a better Admin Interface. I finally figured out that this patch is supposed to be applied to phpESP v 1.5 RC1. I was wondering if there is a patch that can be applied to phpESP 1.6.1 or if there is an upgrade path from 1.5 RC 1 that includes these interface modifications. I also browsed several of the CVS branches, but it doesn't look like these files made it in there. Was the Admin UI left behind because of lack of resources to integrate it with 1.6.1, or is there a design/technical reason? Thanks for any info. My vote would be to relate that the feature is available and how to activate, in the FAQ. Also, add the required code to survey.php(disabled). Commit away :-) On Wed, 2004-04-14 at 19:34, James E. I think this should go in the FAQ, or in the source either as comments in survey.php or as public/results.php (disabled by default somehow). What do you all think? (I don't really feel like I'm in a position to use my commit bit without running things by the rest of you now, since I haven't in quite a while and am not a user of phpESP.) -James -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [phpesp-general] phpESP making survey results public Date: Tue, 13 Apr 2004 17:55:27 -0400 From: James E. Flemer <jf...@uv...> To: php...@li... References: <EAE...@7t...> You can make public results by doing the following, though note that it will make all results public. Make a copy of public/survey.php and add a line like: $results = 1; above the call to handler-prefix, then use that page just like the survey.php page. It should display results instead of the survey. Also note that the same applies to custom survey templates, setting $results to one before calling handler{-prefix} will switch to results mode. -James KEVIN field wrote: > Hi, > > I'm looking for advice/help from anyone who has customized phpESP to > make a survey's results public. Erek, Looks very nice. Good job! Would you consider sending me the patch, so I could try it over here. Looks very nice. Did you make any code changes to produce? As soon as I get some...any! feedback from the ADODB patch I posted previously I'm planning on changing the survey output to produce a nice validating CSS/XHTML format. This should allow much greater flexibly to folks that have requested varying layouts. Hi All, What do you all think of this survey format, as opposed to the standward version? especially the left justify, and lettered question choices... I am considering submitting it for addition into the main program... http://www.health-leadership.com/phpESP/public/survey.php?name=Blumenthals_Assessment_Test_copy Regards, Erek |

Erek, I looked at this code at one point as well. IF my old notes are correct, this code snippet forces all the rank options to be displayed in the results totals, even if it wasn't answered by anyone. As an aside, if this is an optimization for the large survey that you posted about earlier this week, changing this will have minimal benefit speed wise. This code chunk only runs when you are running your results report - not each time one of your 200K submissions are coming in. Regards, Leonard http://papayapolls.com |

Is it possible that $counts could contain indexes other than the ones returned by the query? Maybe the purpose is to reset just certain elements of the $counts array... Hi All, this is a snippet from survey_results.inc: Line 406: $sql = "SELECT C.content FROM question_choice C WHERE C.question_id='${qid}' AND C.content NOT LIKE '!other%' ORDER BY C.id"; if ($result = mysql_query($sql)) { for ($j = 0; $j < mysql_num_rows($result); $j++) $counts[mysql_result($result, $j, 0)] = null; mysql_free_result($result); } The only thing that I see this does is enumerates through the $counts array and resets everything to null, would it be better to change this to one line: $counts = array(); I have done this in my developement copy with no ill effects. Any of you know another purpose to this block? Regards, Erek Dyskant |
