Hi Mark, OQT, even if it is clearly in a development stage is already used as is or some parts only in all the major new multimedia projects under Linux (Xine, Mplayer, Gstreamer and soon Transcode). There is already a Mozilla plugin using Gstreamer which uses OQT. OQT is basically a LIBRARY, that means there is no real executable to launch but a set of applications using it. It has been designed for DEVELOPERS firstly. Yes, we have a basic player and a basic encoder but they have been designed only as example how to use the library. And the OQTPlayer and OQTEncoder have documentations. If you want a precise documentation, look at the openquicktime.h file : this is the library API... But, as always, if you don't think this is enough and is motivated, feel free to help us ;) Yann. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mark LaPierre" <mar...@td...> To: <ope...@li...>; "Nicholas Humfrey" <nj...@ec...> Sent: Thursday, February 21, 2002 1:51 AM Subject: RE: [Openquicktime-users] OpenQuicktime How to?? > > Subj:Re: [Openquicktime-users] OpenQuicktime How to?? > > Date:Wed, 20 Feb 2002 7:45:25 PM Eastern Standard Time > > From:Nicholas Humfrey <nj...@ec...> > > To:ope...@li... > > CC:mar...@ao... > > > > What do you want to be able to do ? > > I was hoping to use it as a Netscape plugin or as a stand alone player if that > won't work. > > > Play movies ? > > Playing movies is what QT is all about isn't it? Yes, I understand that from the QT web page on sourceforge where I downloaded the source, as I stated in my first letter. My question is: How do I start this thing up? How do I make it run? What do you want to be able to do ? Play movies ? I'm afraid that the OpenQuicktime project is in very early stages of development - very few codecs have been developed/ported and the player is very minimal. An SDL based player is available in CVS and here: http://openquicktime.sourceforge.net/download.htm Sorry if you were hoping for something more developed ! nj. |

I downloaded the source and followed the directions in the INSTALL file. My question is, what now? How do I use this? Where is the documentation? |

Dear OpenQuicktime People, I have just downloaded this app to my Linux (Caldera OpenLinux) computer. I am still inthe dark about tar-giz and un-zip and so on. What's the next step to make this app happen in my computer? I'd REALLY appreciate a simple "open this file and type the following" guide, but such things are hard to come by for Linux app's I've tried to install before...HELP! ze...@qu... |

> when running ./configure > > error > Glib needed > > what to do please Looks like you need the glib library in order to compile OpenQuicktime. Get and install the glib and glib-devel RPMs for your suse 7.1 (should be on your CDs, or on Suse's website). Alternatively, you can get the sources on the GTK+ web-site < ftp://ftp.gtk.org/pub/gtk/v1.2/ >, then compile and install it yourself: ./configure, make, make install (beeing root). If this does not work, maybee it's OpenQuicktime's configure script that is not clever enough to find the glib library (chekc this on configure.log). Sorry for the delay. Hope this helps, - Antoine |

Hi Cathy, Sorry but the RAW codec is not supported by the current version of OpenQuicktime. It should in the next version. So I suggest, either to wait ;), or to try some other player which may read your file. You could try Xmovie (http://www.heroinewarrior.com/xmovie.php3) or even Xine (http://xine.sourceforge.net) which uses OpenQuicktime to demux the streams and its own codecs to decode them ... Hope that helps, Yann. Hi there, Can anyone help me: I'm trying to play a raw (YUV 4:2:0) Quicktime file, and have just installed OpenQuicktime v1 & the OQTPlayer - but it can't find "quicktime_codec_raw.so" Do I need to download this separately? Where can I get it from? Thanks :-) Cathy |
