Hi all, OpenQuicktime, I hop ethat this is the right list to get some help from, not 100% sure. I'm trying to find information about the .mov filestructure. I do want to write a little aplication in Visual Basic (oh my..) that reads the header of a .mov file, checks if it has a movie and audio track and returns some extra information like the length (in ms) of the movie, the framerate, the dimensions, the used codecs for video/audio, etc. Currently I already found something that does the sqame for .avi file (http://isengrim.rotegruetze.net/avi-info.php) I do need to use Windows, and my C++ skills are limited. So VB is my first choiche. Any help from you guys? Is there any simple documentation available about the header structure of the .mov format? (for the .avi fileformat I found this http://www.fastgraph.com/help/avi_header_format.html, please have a look) Any help is welcome, Rob |

Hello Nick and list subscribers, Thank you for the update of OpenQuicktime.pm you sent me. It seemed to=20 work, but now there's another problem: Video::Info doesn't pass the test = scripts. I think I give up for the moment. :-) > I will have a look at it but things should stabilize once we release=20 > OpenQuicktime 2.0. Do you have any ideas on how far away release 2.0 is? Anyway, what I intended to do is to write a perl script that can=20 identify media files (video and audio) and extract information from=20 them, such as size, length, framerate, bitrate, comments, ID3-tags and=20 so on. Maybe some of you with more experience from media files can point me to=20 another solution (using OpenQuicktime actually seem to be a little bit=20 overkill for this purpose)? I'm also interested in technical=20 specifications of different media files (in worst case, I'll write my=20 own detection and information extraction algorithms :-)). The perl module will only work with the CVS version of OpenQuicktime - however it has been changing quite a lot recently - so the Perl Module may need updating... I will have a look at it but things should stabilize once we release OpenQuicktime 2.0. Cheers, nick. Audio encoding is now behaving correctly (apart from MP3 - I'm working on it !). Comparisons between audio tracks created by real QuickTime and OpenQuicktime show that they are almost identical :-) Taken from website: Jozef has written a DV to movie importer called 'oqtimport_dv'. The oqtavi2mov and oqtmash2mov utilities have been apropriately renamed and moved to the 'import' directory. The oqtextractvideo and oqtextractaudio utilies have been renamed to oqtexport_audio, oqtexport_ppm and oqtexport_compressed. Jozef has also been working on support for reference movies - where the data for the movie is stored in a file(s) external to the movie file. I also noticed that Allen Day <all...@uc...> has writing a Perl interface to get metadata about movies using OpenQuicktime (Coool !) I added a link from the OpenQuicktime website. Cheers, nick. |

Hi, Version 1.0 of OpenQuicktime is very old now. I am currently working hard on getting a new release - but for the time being I recommend using the version in CVS. Having said that, there is not yet a version of 3ivx available for the latest OQT sources. As for the specific problem you are having - it is looks like a more general problem - rather than something to do with OpenQuicktime. The error you are seeing is generated by the autoconf scripts rather than OpenQuicktime. Stay tuned and we should have a new release of OpenQuicktime and 3ivx guys should release a 3ivx plugin for it... Cheers, nick. >Hi, >My name is Arturo Torres. >I am trying to install OpenQuickTime 1.0 and got the following error when I >run the "configure" program running as root: > >"checking for gcc... gcc >checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no >configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot >create executables." > >I am running Conectiva Linux 8.0 (Kernel 2.4). > >I would appreciate someone could help me to solve this issue to finish >installing openquicktime. >My main interest is to run MPEG-4 movies using the 3ivx plug-in. > >Any help will be appreciated. > >Thanks, > >Arturo > > > >------------------------------------------------------- >This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek >Welcome to geek heaven. >http://thinkgeek.com/sf >_______________________________________________ >Openquicktime-users mailing list >Ope...@li... >https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/openquicktime-users |

Hello, Sorry my work has been a little slow (at best) recently. I have just started a PhD at Southampton University and everything has been a bit messy and hectic. I also have been without ADSL / Internet access so haven't had a chance to check in my code recently. The good news is that I now have my computer setup in a lab and will start work again ! I have removed lame from the OpenQuicktime sources and have been modifying the mp3 plugin to use the new liblame API. I want OpenQuicktime to be freely distributable on most platforms - and by putting patented codecs in it, it stops us distributing it in binary form. If there are any similar issues with other code in OpenQuicktime, please let me know. So look forward to a check-in soon. Be warned that I have done another massive file changing to make types a little most sensible/standard. Want to get all the done before a release. Ideally I would like to have a pre-release before the New Year - and make the OpenQuicktime 2.0 release early in the New Year. Cheers, nick. |

Hi,
Hi,
I am trying to get a small example going to decode frames from a
quicktime movie. I have tried to create a JPEG-encoded video and I am
now trying to extract the frames from the movie. I am not sure the
creation of the movie succeeded, but I cannot read any other movie
available at the project website.
I ahve included part of the source code tor ead a frame, although no
values appear in the buffer. Wahat is the right way to extract the
values from the "decompress_row" buffer ?
unsigned char **decompress_row = NULL, **transfer = NULL;
RGB *clr = NULL; /* RGBA */ ...
video_width = quicktime_video_width( ( quicktime_t *)filmptr, n_video
);
video_height = quicktime_video_height( ( quicktime_t *)filmptr, n_video
);
video_rate = quicktime_frame_rate( ( quicktime_t *)filmptr, n_video );
video_pos = quicktime_video_position( ( quicktime_t *)filmptr, n_video
);
decompress_row = ( unsigned char **)malloc( video_height * sizeof( char
*) );
if( !decompress_row ){
sprintf( errbuf, "Could not allocate frame row buffer" );
status = IE_NOT_OK;
}
transfer = decompress_row;
quicktime_reads_cmodel( ( quicktime_t *)filmptr, BC_RGBA8888, n_video
);
clr = ImageOutData( img );
for( i = 0; i < video_height; i++ ) {
decompress_row[i] = ( unsigned char *)clr + i * video_width * 4;
}
quicktime_decode_video( ( quicktime_t *)filmptr, BC_RGBA8888,
decompress_row, n_video);
for( y = 0; y < video_height; y++ ){
for( x = 0; x < video_width; x++ ){
Red( clr ) = *transfer[y]++;
Green( clr ) = *transfer[y]++;
Blue( clr ) = *transfer[y]++;
Extra( clr ) = *transfer[y]++;
printf( "%d\t%d\t%d\t%d\t%d\n", x, y, ( int )Red( clr ), ( int
)Green( clr ), ( int )Blue( clr ) );
clr++;
}
}

Hi, What is the mimimum set of commandsds to open, read and close a quicktime movie with the library? I simply need to build a frame-reader, to extract frame by frame from a movie and put the result into a buffer (no display). Is there an easy way to compile the codecs in the CVS-tree separately and simply add them to the "/usr/local/lib" directory to be used with the current stable release of the library ? There are no codecs available to read the demo movies with the current stable release. About what time will the next stable release probably be released ? There seesm to be a change in the API, is there still a manual available of the current stable release ? Best regards, Peter -- Dr. Peter Van Osta Union Biometrica N.V./S.A. Hi, Firstly you are using quite an old version of OpenQuicktime - most of the new features/codecs are only available in CVS. You are right in that it can't find either the video or the audio codecs that it is looking for - these are QDesign Music 2 and Sorenson Video 3. Sadly neither of these codecs are available Open Source at the moment - we do have Sorenson Video 1 support now. Sorry ! nick. ps. if you are looking for a snazzy movie player, try xine or Mplayer - but sadly neither will play that movie. >Hi, >first of all I want to congratulate the authors of the ope quick time library >for they great job. No such audio track supported.
No audio or video supported.
It seems like it cannot find the codec to play file, isn't it?
Can anybody help me?
Thanks a lot.

The all new, PHP-powered OpenQuicktime website is now online, featuring the new OpenQuicktime Logo. http://www.openquicktime.org I have restyled all the old pages and added a couple of new ones. Major new features are the Codec and Movie file browsers. Both take information from OpenQuicktime to generate the pages. Still needs some more textual content added - such as Plugin Howtos and an updated F.A.Q. I welcome any contributions / comments ! Cheers, nick. |

Hi All! The OpenQuicktime CVS seems messed up at the moment. I could't compile it under SUSE 8.0, gcc 2.9x. I had to change "structs.h", because the compiler complained about redefinition of typedef __s8 oqt_int8; typedef __s16 oqt_int16; typedef __s32 oqt_int32; typedef __s64 oqt_int64; typedef __u8 oqt_uint8; typedef __u16 oqt_uint16; typedef __u32 oqt_uint32; typedef __u64 oqt_uint64; Also, in openquicktime.h some function prototypes are not in sync with the code. Maybe someone forgot to commit his changes. Also, I'd like to see a feature for de-registering a codec or at least to override an already registered codec. I developed a RLE and enhanced RAW codec but it has to be loaded before the Simple plugin. Of course I could set the OQT_PLUGIN_DIR to always load my codecs first. Also, the video and audioplugins should be linked with the library (-l openquicktime) again. Otherwise you could get unresolved references if you use openquicktime and codecs in an external application. libopenquicktime should be in the dependency list of the codec, as it was in the old CVS. Maybe someone could care about this, because OQT is really great! Thanks, Alex ale...@ve... |

I tried compiling it and it's not giving any errors but I can't find the executable after running make install. Any clues? Also, do you know of a scriptable executable that will go to and from dv format to something like tiff or jpeg? I'm still alive - I have exams at the moment so I haven't had much time to do stuff... I have been trying to create and collect some movie test files for *all* supported audio codecs in QuickTime. So then I can play them/compare them with OQT. They have all been created using 'real' QuickTime. http://surge.soton.ac.uk/~njh/oqt_audio_tests/ A few more to do but I'm getting there. Still to do: 'dvca' - Digital Video Audio 'dvi ' - DVI IMA ADPCM 4:1 'lpc ' - Linear Predictive Coding 23:1 'ms$0002' - Microsoft IMA ADPCM 4:1 'ms$0011' - Intel IMA ADPCM 4:1 'QDMC' - QDesign Music 1 If anyone knows how to encode the missing few, please let me know... Cheers, nj. |
