First I'd like to update people on the code progress since it has been a while. I've been busy with other projects, but I just started waorking on openhl again yesterday and I got file browsing working well. It uses the icons stored in the Desktop database so you'll always get the right icon for a file unlike Hotline's way of storing the icons as cicn's and only supporting a few file types. I also added bookmark saving, updated the LViewDivider to be theme comlient (thanks to dustin), finally made the disclosure triangle in the session window work, started adding user editing, and got a new WASTE wrapper class that supports a lot of really cool features (thanks again dustin). I've been updating CVS with these changes, but the source tree might be broken from time to time until I do another binary release. on 3/20/00 4:49 PM, kangoo at ka...@cr... wrote: > Hi, > I'm just a poor programmer by myself (but I'm working to change this ;-), > but I want to send you some little suggestions, that *may* be useful when > the app will support file transfert, etc. > So, here it goes : > First, you know that a lot of guys are still using 1.2.3 servers. The GUI will hopefully change a lot and is not set in stone at all, what is there now is just what was fast and easy for me to do so the client would be useable and I'd have a way to test the networking. > To finish, another little thing. Hmmm.. but > hmm... may be not, after all, fintler may know him better than me ;-) I have written two incomplete hotline servers in C/C++ and I've talked with cwis quiet a bit, but last time I emailed him I never got a responce and the #soja irc channel seems to be dead. I'd like to get hold of him, and a lot of the source code for openhl can be used for a server also...in fact I wrote the HLPacket and HLObject classes for one of the servers I never finished. - Jason T. > -- > UIN 6160652 > ka...@cr... > > _______________________________________________ > openhl-client mailing list > ope...@li... > http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/openhl-client |

Hi, I'm just a poor programmer by myself (but I'm working to change this ;-), but I want to send you some little suggestions, that *may* be useful when the app will support file transfert, etc. So, here it goes : First, you know that a lot of guys are still using 1.2.3 servers. These usually send "Transfert Failed" error. This has been fixed in 1.5+ servers, but.... So, May an option like "auto-restart failed tranferts" can be very cool (when you let the machine d/l, and you go to bed 4 example). Second, servers owner usually restart their computer once a day... but hey, we never know when ! So another option, like "attempt to reconnect if disconnected" with " '5' retries, with '5'minutes interval " and restarting all tasks. That may be a little boring to code, but ... ;-) I also had a GUI suggestion. The original Hotline app let you move user list where you want to. In openHL, as in some clones, UserList is at right. However, some users prefer (like me) place the userlist a left. So, I suggest to make it "side movable".... To finish, another little thing. I saw there's also a OpenHL server project on the way. May you can mail Cwis, the programmer of soja... Hmmm.. but hmm... may be not, after all, fintler may know him better than me ;-) -- UIN 6160652 ka...@cr... |

I just released a new archive with source code, and a powerpc app. It is aavailable from the sourceforge project page. I added private chat and get user info support. We also have a few things lined up for the next release which should be prettty big: user admin features, icon support in the user list, and fixed selecting in all the listboxes. I am also planning on doing a file browser like the MacOS X Finder/NeXT Step/Greg's Browser if you haven't seen any of those I suggest you check it out...it will be different than any hotline client ever made. - Jason T. |

I finally got the newest WASTE wrapper classes for PowerPlant so I can start adding new features without worrying about having to rewrite. I did some work on the LViewDivider to make it draw correctly and display the right cursors. I also started adding an event log window that will display time stamped events like when you connected, name changes, messages, etc... A few more developers joined the team too. - Jason T. |

The developer team is growing, but we still need a lot more developers, so spread the word! I got an email from the author of WText, and he said I should be able to access ftp on his server soon, so we'll be able to get the WText classes. This will replace the extremely broken/outdated CWASTEEdit class in the project right now. Once this is done, I'll start moving ahead a lot faster with new features. I also created LViewDivider, which is a class that divides a window into resizable panes. It will be used in the Session Window so the chat editfield/user list can be resized. The class is in CVS now, but still very rough. I still haven't decided what the interface for messages and tasks should look like. If anyone has any good ideas...feel free to share them. - Jason T. |

Well, I finally got the source code into the cvs server thanks to a lot of help from the sourceforge team. This means more developers will be able to contribute to the project, and it will go a lot smoother. The OpenHL webpage (http://openhl.sourceforge.net) has also been updated. We still need more developers on the project, so get the word out. - jjt |
