Hi! I'm using the zope command here to get the date of the creation of an=20 instance. I'm wondering if I'm sure that the first workitem in the list i= s=20 always the first created. <dtml-var=20 "workflow.getInstance(REQUEST['instance_id']).describeWorkitem(0)['events= '][0]['time']"> The important part being, instance.describeWorkitem(0) I hope so: it's more handy in Zope. It's a a feature I have developped. I've just created a new cvs branch
(Version-0_7_2-julian69) with the latest changes to this feature:
Check it out with cvs co -r Version-0_7_2-julian69

No, I am talking about the description (the string that describes the
activity and that you can fill), not the id of the activity. In the cvs
branch I have changed process.listActivityApplication to return the
activity description, and I have seen no interferences.

Even though the activity_id is the key to get the dictionary in the first place maybe it would be helpful having the activity_id reported in the dictionary itself as well. We'll think about it. Would that be enough or you need something more about the activity? Daniele =) |

Hello,
I sent a message to Vicenzo, but I hadn't the answer.
The topic is about two concrete things:
1) Where to put to fastworkflow list, because it was removed from the cvs,
Vicenzo thinks it's better to create a clear separation between the
display and logic layers.
2) How to collaborate with the project. I see that you are changing the
cvs, this is cool, but if I need to implement a feature, what must I do.
Are all the developpers subscribed to this mail-list ?
What do you want I do before commiting a change in the cvs ?
etc.....

Hi all, I am completely new to wfm and I must intergrate a wf-engine with an ejb and jsp based web-application. As I have never done something like that and I am not so very well experienced with programming at all, I am looking for docs and/or examples to learn about how to use the openflow api from java. thanks in advance... I think it has some automatic activity exampled, starting a simple application. Remember that automatic applications should be written so that they need no user intervention: the workflow engine and the underlying Zope should be able to take care of everything. Daniele =) |

Ok, let's see. Did you create an application in openflow (Applications tab)? Did you link the application to the activity (activity edit page)? Did you create a workflow user corresponding to your zope login (users and roles tab)? If you said "yes" to all questions: the startInstance starts the flowing of the instance in the process; when the instance reaches the first activity it waits for a user to fetch it to work on it (thereby starting the application). What you expect is: the first activity/application will be started as soon as the instance reaches it; so I should be prompted by this first application as soon as there is a new instance. What it is: the first activity/application will hold the just arrived instance, waiting for some user to fetch it (using the callApplication). So you probably need to explicitly call the callApplication on the newly created instance (after the startInstance). Remember that a workflow activity could be handled (generally speaking) by more than one actor: do not think that the submitter of an instance should be always prompted for its first activity/application. > Looking at the openflow source, I found that the callApplication is > invoked by the hasNewWorkItem() without the REQUEST argument and I > dont' figure why the startInstance doesn't pass the REQUEST argument to > hasNewWorkItem. Would this solve your problem? I have trouble seeing why you would need the REQUEST argument: do you need to pass some extra arguments during the call to a startInstance? Could you explain this a little further? Daniele =) |

Hi, I've defined a process with a couple of activities and one application on the first activity. I've trouble to understand how the application is called since when I call the startInstance function I expect to see my application while I receive an empty page. The structure of my Zope application is: index file the start wfAction wfAction calling startInstance application that has to be called by the first activity. Looking at the openflow source, I found that the callApplication is invoked by the hasNewWorkItem() without the REQUEST argument and I dont' figure why the startInstance doesn't pass the REQUEST argument to hasNewWorkItem. I hope to read your answer. Thank you in advance. \fer |

>> Where should the openflow-engine folder be placed? >> I have tried both zope/lib/python/Products and >> zope/Products? Placement depends upon your OS distribution and whether you install Zope from it's upstream source or from the version customized for your OS distribution. Several OSs will relocate items so that they more closely resemble the HFS Hierarchical File System Standard. Thus allowing more sensible installation, backup, restore, and updates. The Debian/GNU zope package creates a SOFTWARE_HOME /usr/lib/zope that will be overwritten by the Debian Package Manager should you perform upgrades. You should not make changes to this directory. It also creates an INSTANCE_HOME in /var/lib/zope and this directory is where you should put your customizations such as the Products, Extensions, and import directories. Under Debian's revised layout, you only need to backup the INSTANCE_HOME. Plus you don't have to worry about upgrading to the next version of Zope and having the upgrade wipe-out any of your customization. Debian can technically upgrade a package while it is still running, however Zope usually requires a restart anyway. You should make sure you have read the README and documentation specific to your OSdistribution to see if they have made any HFS location changes 'downstream' from the main Zope source. --------------------------------------- On a different Newbie subject: The demo still does not behave as implied by it's description. The MonitorUser does not allow me to see all worklists and applications. See my question on the mailing archives. . . Subject: [Openflow-dev] Demo_english Problems Since the rest of the documentation is quite thorough, I've just ignored the DEMO and have continued developing the automated portions of my workflow. I will eventually need to have worklists for my users, and my Supervisors want a user-view that shows every/all instance(s)/worklists. I'd prefer not to give them access to the Zope Management Screen. Are there any working examples or suggestions on how to implement a 'super user view that shows all instances, worklists, and applications' otherwise I'll probably re-invent the wheel; and poorly at that. |

I'm struggling with Zope and OpenFlow. I'd appreciate any helpful suggestions. I have managed to import Demo_english.zexp. But it look like I haven't setup OpenFlow correctly. I see this in the Deno_english folder- "workflow (This object from the openflow-engine product is broken!)" Where should the openflow-engine folder be placed? I have tried both zope/lib/python/Products and zope/Products? Do I need to compile the .py files? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! There was a bug in dtml/instance/History.dtml,
<dtml-var id url_quote> doesn't give the instance id, but the
workitem_id, so activate the workitem and more options didn't work.

Today I have implemented the idea of the Fast Work List. Just checked in the cvs, so if you like it, try it ! Personally, I can't leave anymore without it :-) Vicenzo and Daniele, Sorry for "splashing" a bit the nice code (adding some a note at the end of openflow.py). That's my way of programming, in the university my comments were longer than the code by itself, and all were written in this really really bad english I have)... So feel free to correct the english, and the bugs also :-) -- |
