Thank you for your reply, Samuel! So, I received the file to translate as a docx file. The client also sent me an .sdlxliff file (from a different job), which I converted to a .tmx file for use in OmegaT. The client uses SDL Trados Studio. I am required to deliver my translation in both .docx and in xliff or tmx format. Last time they couldn’t open my tmx file but (apparently) could open the xlf file I sent them. This time it seems to be the other way round. Different people, maybe... Tanya Harvey Ciampi Dipl. trans. Is there a TMX-XLIFF conversion tool that can help me out? > My client cannot open the.xlf file I created for her by converting > my .tmx file using OmegaT's own "Write XLIFF (new)" script. > > Can anyone please help me? I think what we originally should have asked is: (a) does the client require a specific XLIFF format instead of any generic XLIFF format, and (b) which program does the client want to open the XLIFF file in. It is entirely possible that the client does not way "just any" XLIFF file but specifically e.g. a Trados XLIFF or an XLIFF from any of the other CAT tools that produce their own XLIFF variants. If that is so, then a generic XLIFF file isn't going to be useful. It may also be that the client doesn't realise that the program that they're using can't open generic XLIFF files as XLIFF files (but instead opens generic XLIFF files as source files and converts them to its own XLIFF format, which is e.g. what Trados, MemoQ and Wordfast would do). We should also have asked you: in what format did you receive the file from the client to begin with? So, can you answer these questions? Samuel [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
