Hi, I normally run notion with my laptop in a dock that is connected to two external monitors. It works great! I occasionally disconnect my laptop from the dock and use the built-in laptop monitor. Notion is smart enough to put all my workspaces onto the single screen when I do this. When I have two screens, though, I usually use Mod1+1..0 to switch between workspaces. When the screens are merged, Mod1+1...0 is mapped to the workspaces from one of the screens. The workspaces from the other screen is still accessible, for instance via Mod1+>, Mod1+<, or Mod1+K K, but it makes them much more difficult to access. Is it possible to merge the workspaces of each screen? For instance, if I had window A in workspace 1 on screen 1, and window B in workspace 1 on screen 2, when I switch to one screen I'd like to have window A and B in workspace 1. Or are there any other strategies for dealing with this problem? Thanks, Ed |

Hi! I regularly use firefox (from the same profile) in two notions, one 1920x1080 and the other just 1024x768 (in a VNC). Sometimes, firefox doesn't notice that it's now started on smaller/bigger display. When I split the screen, it recognizes it and adapts; so I usually split+join. Is there a more direct "nudge" I can send to firefox to adapt? Or even better, a method so it doesn't misbehave? Thomas |

Hi, Thanks for your question. I have been using IntelliJ heavily under Notion, so it's certainly possible - I remember I had some dialogs that behaved strangely, but all-in-all it was usable. Which version of Notion are you on? Are you using the default kludges? How does starting idea fail? Does it not start at all, have misplaced/invisible/incorrectly sized windows, ...? Hello, I have noticed that I cannot open intellij at all with notion as a windows manager. I have heard that there are some issues with java apps using non parenting wms. Could this be the problem? I have also noticed that in Netbeans I can open the Java Platforms dialog but when I try to add a new platform the dialog doesn't open. I attempted to fix this with export _JAVA_AWT_WM_NONREPARENTING=1 in my .xinitrc but it doesn't seem to work. Is there anything I can do to fix these? Could it be a problem with notion? Any help would be great. Best Regards, John Mercier |

I often start some application (using Notion command line) and then switch to another workspace. Then window of this application appears in workspace I switched to. Is there any way to force it to open where it was started? -- With best regards Alex Khmara |

Hello Wojciech, WRegion.is_active might come in handy. For example: % echo "result = ''; notioncore.region_i(function (r) result = result .. WRegion.name(r) .. ';' .. tostring(WRegion.is_active(r, true)) .. '|'; return true end, 'WGroupWS'); return result" | mod_notionflux/notionflux/notionflux "*scratchws*<4>;false|WGroupWS;true|WGroupWS<1>;false|WGroupWS<3>;false|" .. when I was on the workspace named 'WGroupWS'. Does that help? However, I don't know the proper lua to produce not only the list of currently existing workspaces, but the one being displayed right now. So, for the moment, when I call the script, notionflux returns: "*scratchws*|WGroupWS|WGroupWS<1>|WGroupWS<2>|WGroupWS<4>|duh|" meaning I have 5 workspaces + scratch. What I would like, is for notionflux to write something like: 25 "*scratchws*|WGroupWS-foo|WGroupWS<1>|WGroupWS<2>|WGroupWS<4>|duh|" while I'm displaying 'WGroupWS' but 25 "*scratchws*|WGroupWS|WGroupWS<1>|WGroupWS<2>|WGroupWS<4>|duh-foo|" while I diplaying (switching to) workspace 'duh'. Let's be more specific and add that "displaying" something means (I'm on singlehead display) that my focus is there, as in I'm typing to a terminal that's there:) To ilustrate even further, check out this guy's Awesome WM screenshot: http://img05.deviantart.net/1f6a/i/2011/242/2/a/tronminull_theme_in_awesome_wm_by_xenull-d48da2a.png In fact, my notion setup looks quite similar, except it's more greenish:) So in the top-left corner, you can see he has and indicator (four squares) of which workspace he's currently on. Hi Wojciech, Thanks for your question. I'm not exactly sure what you'd like to see though. To for example get the list of workspace names, you could write a notionflux script like this: echo "result = ''; notioncore.region_i(function (r) result = result .. WRegion.name(r) .. '|'; return true end, 'WGroupWS'); return result" | notionflux Which would return your workspace names (including the 'scratch' workspace) separated by pipes. That might be a starting point to get what you're looking for? Hi Matthieu, > This is not true. Why are you saying that? Because when I click "Plaats bericht" (stand for "New Topic", probably in Dutch), it asks to log-in to Google and doesn't reveal any alternative. > You are making a confusion between a gmail account and a google > account. > > A google account can be linked to any email address, not just gmail. > And as said in other messages, you do not need a google account to use > google groups, although it's clearly more convenient when you have > one. You're right, I've never distingished these two things and I guess even most of Google users (even among power users) don't pay attention to the difference. I can find a way to register the account without Gmail if I look for it in particular (btw, it still doesn't want to proceed without an sms verification). But is there a situation when Google would reveal this option to the user? If I click "Plaats bericht" in a Google group and then "Een account maken" and in the registration form, I can see an irremovable "@gmail.com" in "E-Mailadres" field, i.e. it forces a user to register not only Google account, but Gmail as well. > If we are to pick google groups Vs sf.net, we should consider the > drawbacks on both sides. Totally agree that this is absolutely unacceptable. Google does many unethical things, too. I think much more, than SF. Both are just the same kind of bullshit. -----Original Message----- Date: Mon, 01 Jun 2015 11:05:00 +0200 From: Matthieu Moy <Mat...@gr...> To: tot-to <not...@to...> Cc: Ed Schwartz <edm...@cm...>, notion-general <not...@li...> Subject: Re: [Notion-general] Moving the mailinglists away from Sourceforge tot-to <not...@to...> writes: > But the requirement of Google account create much more trobles. A google account can be linked to any email address, not just gmail. And as said in other messages, you do not need a google account to use google groups, although it's clearly more convenient when you have one. > And in order to post a message, instead of simply sending an e-mail, > one needs to log-in. If we are to pick google groups Vs sf.net, we should consider the drawbacks on both sides. Read this for example: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/05/sourceforge-grabs-gimp-for-windows-account-wraps-installer-in-bundle-pushing-adware/ or for french-speaking people: http://linuxfr.org/users/jehan/journaux/sourceforge-de-pire-en-pire-usurpation-d-identite-du-projet-gimp I don't particularly support the migration to google groups, but moving away from sourceforge would definitely be a good thing in my opinion. Sourceforge did a good job supporting free software 10 years ago, but they are now actively harmful. -- Matthieu Moy http://www-verimag.imag.fr/~moy/ |
