Home & Discover

The app opens on Home — the dashboard where you search, see your system at a glance, and act. One page covers search, system stats, quick actions, and recent activity, then turns into a full results workspace when you search.

Overview

The Home page (view id discover) is NeoArch's dashboard and its search workspace. Before you search you see the dashboard; once you type a query the same page becomes a full package browser: results table on the left, a source panel on the right, and a detail card when you select a row.

Dashboard, top to bottom: top bar → hero search box → dashboard cards → action buttons → recent activity.

When you search: results table below the cards → source panel fills the right column → row menus and the detail card handle actions.

1. Top bar

The thin strip across the top of the Home page.

Element What it is
Quick search (small box) Compact "Quick search…" field — jump straight into a search from the top bar
Signal bar Connection indicator — online / offline (cached mode) / restored
Refresh icon Circular button — reload package data after out-of-app changes (pacman -Syu etc.)
Install Local Pkg File picker for local package files
Arch News Opens the cached Arch Linux news feed

Quick search (small box)

Type a package name and hit Enter to start a search without leaving Home. Keeps the big hero box for focused browsing.

Signal bar

  • Online — indicator active; search results are live.
  • Offline / no signal — NeoArch falls back to cached data and shows the offline state.
  • Restored — the indicator flips back and live data resumes.

Refresh icon

Reloads the package data (installed list, updates, counters). Use it after making system changes outside NeoArch.

Install Local Pkg

Opens the file picker for local package files; drag-and-drop works too:

  • .pkg.tar.xz / .pkg.tar.zst — pacman package
  • .pacman — pacman transaction
  • .AppImage — portable app (managed on AppImages)
  • .flatpakref — Flatpak install file

Arch News

Opens the Arch Linux news feed (cached offline). Read it before big system updates — regression announcements live there.

  • Type a query → results stream in across all sources (auto-search after ~3 characters), or press Enter / Search for a full results list.
  • Results carry source badges (pacman / AUR / Flatpak / npm).
  • Clearing the search returns you to the dashboard.

3. Dashboard cards

Installed Packages Total packages installed across all sources (pacman -Q)
Available Updates Updates waiting — official + AUR + Flatpak + npm
System Status Detected package sources/toolchains (pacman, AUR helper, Flatpak, npm, Docker)

Big color-coded numbers, formatted like 1.2K / 3.4M.

For AUR packages the menu adds:

  • View PKGBUILD — the raw PKGBUILD on aur.archlinux.org
  • View Changes — the package's git log
  • Download snapshot — the AUR .tar.gz snapshot

In Installed / Updates views the same menu swaps to Update, Uninstall, Ignore update, etc.

9. Selecting a row — the right-side card

Screenshot_20260910_150002

Click a row and the Package detail card appears on the right:

  • Rich package info: description, version, source, dependencies.
  • Install Package button — installs the selected package.
  • Uninstall Package button — (for installed packages).
  • Close button dismisses the card.

Multi-select: tick checkboxes and use Install Selected on the results toolbar to install several at once.

10. Results toolbar buttons

Screenshot_20260910_150015

When results are showing, the top bar gains:

Button What it does
Install Local Pkg Install a local package file

The Grid View toggle switches the whole results area from table rows to visual package cards (same data, different layout).

Bottom Cli viewer

Neoarch also have cli viewer every pages

Good to know

  • Search state (query, filters, scroll) is preserved when you switch pages and come back.
  • The dashboard counters use a short cached path so they don't hammer pacman.
  • Everything clickable here is scriptable — see the CLI reference.
