AppImages

Manage AppImage applications — add local files, add Git-backed repos, check for updates, and update them all in one place.

Overview

AppImages are portable single-file Linux apps — no install, no root. NeoArch treats a collection of AppImages as managed applications: you add your set, and NeoArch keeps track of them and can fetch updates for Git-backed sources.

  • Add a local file — register a downloaded .AppImage as a managed app.
  • Add a repo — register a Git-backed app source (such as ossia/score) to track upstream releases.
  • Check for updates — look for newer versions of your managed apps (usable with --json).
  • Update — refresh all managed apps to their latest releases.

1. Add from File

Click Add from File in the top-right corner to register a downloaded .AppImage file. NeoArch copies it into the managed directory and tracks it for future updates.

You can also add from a URL via the CLI:

neo appimage add ./Some.AppImage # local file
neo appimage add-repo Code ossia/score # Git-backed source

2. Overview cards

Four stat cards sit below the header:

Card What it shows
Total AppImages Number of managed AppImages
Updates Available Apps with newer releases available
Total Size Disk space used by all managed AppImages
Sources Unique sources (local files + Git repos)

3. AppImage cards

AppImage cards

Each AppImage shows its name, version, source, and size. Cards have action buttons:

  • Update — pull the latest release (for Git-backed sources)
  • Remove — unregister the AppImage from management

How to use

  1. Add — click Add from File or use the CLI to register AppImages.
  2. List — see your managed apps with versions and sources.
  3. Check — run a check for updates; any that have newer releases get flagged.
  4. Update all — pull the latest releases for every managed app in one action.

CLI equivalent

neo appimage list # managed AppImages
neo appimage add ./Some.AppImage # add a local file
neo appimage add-repo Code ossia/score
neo appimage check --json # check for updates (machine-readable)
neo appimage update # update all managed apps

Good to know

  • AppImage management is independent of pacman — it's for app portables, not system packages.
  • Git-backed repos track upstream GitHub releases (via their repo's release feed); local files are managed by you.
  • The --json flag makes neo appimage check scriptable for cron or status panels.
